A prayer to the heavenly king comforter. Heavenly King: prayer to the One who comforts

Daily home prayer is an important part of the Christian life. After all, a person is in the temple not so often. The rest of the time, he must work on his spiritual growth on his own. The text of the prayer "Heavenly King" in Orthodoxy refers to the main ones that you need to know by heart. In what cases it is read, which means translation into Russian - you will find everything in the article.

How to read a prayer correctly

The authorship of the majority of Orthodox prayer messages to be established is rather difficult, and more often it is simply impossible. It is believed that they were compiled by monks who achieved a certain enlightenment of the soul, then passed from mouth to mouth. The time of occurrence is approximately known - the end of the 9th century AD or the beginning of the 10th. Soon after this period, the text began to be used by believers not only in temples, but also in home prayers.

When this prayer is read, every parishioner of an Orthodox church knows. The words "Heavenly King" are heard at the beginning of any divine service (both in the morning and in the evening). Sometimes it is recited by the reader, during the solemn service the text is sung by the clergy. It is customary to start any business with an appeal to the Holy Spirit, including a home prayer rule.

  • The reading of this text is usually followed by petitions to the Holy Trinity, then prayer. In church terminology, this is called "the usual beginning."
  • In liturgical practice, the text also sounds like a stichera of the 6th voice. It is sung on the eve of the feast of Pentecost - this is the day when the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles, according to the promise.

The text of the Prayer "Heavenly King"

During the church service, only the Church Slavonic text is used:

Heavenly King,
Comforter,
To the soul of truth
Anywhere else
and do everything
The treasure of the good
and life to the Giver,
come
and dwell in us,
and cleanse us from all filthiness,
and save, Blazhe, our souls.

Interpretation of prayer

The Heavenly King, the Comforter - these are all appeals to one of the persons of the Holy Trinity. In Christianity, the Holy Spirit is considered equal to God the Father and God the Son. This is the invisible King of the whole world who sends us comfort during sad events. After all, earthly life is so difficult that it is only possible to alleviate human suffering.

Omnipresence is a property that is everywhere, sees everything that happens and sends everyone what is needed. The entire visible universe exists only thanks to the power of the Holy Spirit, including people. Also, after physical death, the human soul will receive the possibility of eternal life from the third person of the Trinity. Of course, this property fully applies to each of the Trinity.

The expression "do everything" can confuse those who are new to the Church Slavonic language. This is not about the fulfillment of desires. These words mean that the Holy Spirit is everywhere, that is, it fills the whole world. This is not just presence, but the maintenance of the vitality of the whole world. If the Spirit stopped its work, life would stop, because the universe has no other reason for existence except the desire of God. It is not for nothing that the Spirit is further called the one who gives life.

The expression "treasure of the good" can also be misleading. No, the Lord is not at all the treasure that belongs only to the elect, “good” (that is, sinless) people. On the contrary, He is the source of all that is good in us. It is no coincidence that the following is followed by the request of believers that the Holy Spirit should come and dwell in the soul. Every believer is obliged to make his soul the repository of God. Also, it is He who unites people so that they become the body of Christ.

Trinity God

Unfortunately, the prayer "Heavenly King" is not read by Christians as often as others. But many problems could have been avoided - for this you just need to call on the heavenly forces for help before starting any business. It can be very difficult to cognize in all its depth the dogma of the Trinity of the Christian God. It is usually easier for people to imagine Christ who came into the world as a man.

But the whole Christian philosophy is based on the dogma of the Lord's Trinity. To facilitate the task, the spiritual fathers advise to imagine the Sun - it is one heavenly body, while giving us warmth and light. Also, one woman can simultaneously be a wife, mother, sister.

The Christian must provide his soul like a temple for the Holy Spirit to dwell there. This is also said in the prayer address. The Lord is able to cleanse us from sin, make us holy and worthy of His love.

Word psalm means song. This psalm was compiled by the prophet David when he repented of a great sin - he killed the pious Uriah the Hittite and took possession of his wife Bathsheba. This psalm is called a penitential psalm because it expresses deep regret for the sin committed and fervent prayer for mercy, and in the depth of repentance perhaps surpasses all the others. Therefore, this psalm is read often in church during worship. All of us, guilty of many sins, should recite this psalm as often as possible, delving into every word.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy compassions, cleanse my iniquity. Sin is great, therefore the prophet asks God for great mercy. Only God's ineffable bounties can cleanse grievous iniquity.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. The Lord has already announced to David through the prophet Nathan that he removes his sins from him for repentance (2 Samuel 12, 13) - but David prays that God will completely cleanse him from sinful impurities. Likewise, we, having received the remission of our sins in the Sacrament of Repentance, must nevertheless ceaselessly cry out to the Lord to destroy the very root of sin in us.
I know my iniquity, and I will take out my sin before me... Have pity, Lord, cleanse me! Sin weighs on me, I cannot forget it, I see it day and night in my conscience, which constantly disturbs my soul.
Those who have sinned against You, and have done evil in Your sight, as if you were justified in Your words, and conquer, always judging You (in the Russian translation of the psalm: so that You are righteous in Your judgment and pure in Your judgment). The prophet presents himself not to human, but to God's judgment (David is a king, and he is not afraid of human judgment). Hiding lawlessness from people, you cannot hide it from the Supreme Judge, who sees everything secret; before God's righteousness our cunning is exposed - our unrighteousness and unrighteousness, and all our justifications are powerless.
Behold, in iniquity I am conceived, and in sin bore me my mother... All of us, descendants of Adam, are conceived in sins, inheriting the original sin. We plead with God for forgiveness by presenting to Him our natural tendency to sin.
Behold the truth you loved... (note the word you - it indicates the 2nd person: behold, You loved the truth). You, Lord, yourself are the Truth ( I am the way and the truth and the life - In. 14, b), You love the truth and want us to be in the truth. And I confess that you love the truth and hate lies, therefore I confess and realize before you that I have sinned.
You have revealed your unknown and secret wisdom to me - the unknown (hidden) and secret (that is, the hidden secret) of Your wisdom You have revealed to me. (King David speaks of his prophetic gift, that God by the Holy Spirit revealed to him the ineffable secrets of His Providence; but every Christian also receives the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacraments of the Church and through the teaching of the Church touches the hidden secrets of the Providence of God, and each of us is told unknown and secret wisdom God: we have been taught the true faith, the path to the Kingdom of Heaven has been shown to us.) How did I respond to these blessed gifts? Sin!
Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow... Here is the hope to completely get rid of sin and be filled with joy. The prophet likens the action of the Holy Spirit to Hyssop, who cleanses all filthiness in us.
To my hearing dasi joy and joy. Give me, my hearing, the good news of mercy, please and make me happy!
The bones of the humble will rejoice. The sin that has been done crushes not only the soul, but also the body: under the weight of sin the bones become exhausted, humbled; when the sin is forgiven and the unbearable burden is removed from the conscience, then the whole body is filled with joy (remember how sometimes we sigh with deep relief and straighten our shoulders).
Turn Thy face away from my sins, and cleanse all my iniquity. - exterminate them from the book of my life.
Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew the spirit of rights in my womb... Raise the fallen soul to primitive beauty, destroying in me the impurity of the ancestral sin. Give me the grace of righteousness!
Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me... Sin tears away from God, from the Source of Life - and we pray that we do not find ourselves in the pitch darkness, where the face of God is not visible.
Give me the joy of Thy salvation, and by the Lord's Spirit confirm me... Reward, return to me the joy that I enjoyed when I was kept by You; give me the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
I will teach the wicked in Thy way, and the wicked will turn to Thee.... When You deliver me from sin and give me the Holy Spirit, I will be able to teach the transgressors again, so that they walk in Your ways, ”says David, His chosen one to the Lord. And for us, this vow contains the same thought as in asking the Lord's prayer: hallowed be thy name in us, Lord; for if you cleanse our sins and by your grace we begin to live according to your will, then by our very lives we will be able to preach your righteousness and turn the hearts of people to you.
Deliver me from the blood, God, God of my salvation... Prophet David asks God to save him from the shed blood of Uriah, in which he seems to be drowning (from the blood - a more accurate translation of the words of the psalm). The words God of my salvation are equal to words God my Savior - an appeal to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With these words of the prophet, we also appeal to the Savior to deliver us from the murderous effect of our sins.
My tongue will rejoice in Thy truth. O Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth shall declare Thy praise.... My lips are now locked in sin. Having received the remission of sins, I will not be silent, but I will testify about You, praise You and glorify Your mercies.
As if you would have wanted sacrifices, you would have given them: do not favor burnt offerings... You, Lord, have abolished the by-law sacrifices that cannot give remission of sins: the external sacrifice, offered without the participation of the heart, does not matter.
The sacrifice to God the spirit is broken; a contrite and humble heart God does not despise. The sacrifice you have loved is repentance and contrition of the heart; you will not despise a broken and humble heart, O God (Russian translation).
Bless, O Lord, with Thy good pleasure Zion, and may the walls of Jerusalem be built... King David prays not only for himself, but also for his city and people, and asks the Lord to raise the walls of Jerusalem, shaken by his sin. But Zion and Jerusalem in Holy Scripture also represent the whole Church.
Then favor the sacrifice of righteousness, the offering and the burnt offering; then they will put calves on your altar... The psalm ends with the image of a sacrifice to God, offered in purity of heart and righteousness; Having cleansed our souls by repentance, we will strive with all our being towards God and give Him ourselves entirely, our whole heart, our whole life - this will be our "burnt offering."

Prayer to the Heavenly King is an appeal to the Holy Spirit, which is part of church worship. The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Holy Trinity, the Life-giving Lord. The name of the prayer comes from the first two words from its text. From Easter to Ascension this prayer is not read, its place is taken by the troparion of Easter "Christ is Risen ...". from the Ascension to the Day of the Holy Trinity, the prayer is not said.

Prayer to the Heavenly King - stichera of the sixth voice on the verse at the Great Vespers of Pentecost. It belongs to the VIII-IX centuries. The authorship of the prayer remains unknown. It is impossible to indicate the exact date, but it is known that it was not under the Constantinople charter of the 9th century. You can read the prayer to the Heavenly King in private, in home prayer.

We often hear that the Heavenly King is a very powerful prayer. You can pronounce it when a person:

  • Asks for help in any business.
  • Cannot be freed from the power of sin.
  • Experiencing a crisis of faith.

But the power of prayer does not depend on which text is pronounced, but on the person's faith. The ritual pronunciation of a prayer text without a true conversation with God has no “special” power.

To the King of Heaven the text of the prayer

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfill everything, Treasure of the good and life to the Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save our souls, Beloved.

Explanation:

Soul - spirit. Izhe - which. The one who is - who is, who is. Do everything - filling everything. Treasure is a storehouse, a source. The good are the good. Get into us - get into us. Filth is sin.

In Russian:

Heavenly King, Comforter (Counselor, Instructor), Spirit of Truth, who exists everywhere (located) and fills everything (with His presence), Treasure of blessings and Giver of Life, come and dwell in us, cleanse us from all sin and save, All-good, our souls ...

Interpretation of the prayer "Heavenly King"

The Holy Spirit is mentioned in the Old Testament three times: twice in the book of Isaiah and once in 50 psalms. But in the New Testament, the Holy Spirit appears much more often. In the form of a dove, he descended during the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ. Gospel characters spoke about him more than once. He came to the Apostles when they went to preach. Therefore, when pronouncing a prayer to the Heavenly King, there is no habitual refrain "rejoice" or "rejoice", but there is the word "come", which invites the third person of the Holy Trinity.

About the Holy Spirit in Scripture

Your imperishable spirit dwells in everything. Prem 12.1

When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak of Himself, but will speak what He hears, and He will announce the future to you. He will glorify Me, because He will take of Mine and declare it to you. John 16: 13-14

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth. Acts 1.8

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith, so that you, by the power of the Holy Spirit, may be enriched with hope. Rome 15.32

But the time will come, and it has already come, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is looking for such worshipers. John 4.23

When they lead you to betray you, do not worry in advance what to say to you, and do not ponder; but what will be given to you at that hour, speak also, for you will not speak, but the Holy Spirit. Mk. 13:11

For God does not give the Spirit by measure. John 3.34

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Because you did not accept the spirit of slavery in order to live in fear again, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry out - "Abba, Father!" The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Rom. 8:14-16

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God with which you are sealed on the day of redemption. Eph. 4.30

Complete collection and description: the trisagion prayer to the heavenly king for the spiritual life of a believer.

"To the Heavenly King" is perhaps one of the most famous prayers, along with "Our Father" (the Lord's Prayer) and the 90th Psalm of King David. It is part of the so-called "ordinary beginning," that is, the sequence of prayers that sounds at the beginning of many services and sequences, including at the beginning of our usual morning and evening prayers: "Heavenly King", Trisagion, "Most Holy Trinity" , "Our Father".

The prayer "Heavenly King" is also the stichera of the Pentecostal service. We call on the Holy Spirit to come and dwell “in us” and this can be understood in two ways: either we want each of us to become the abode of the Spirit, or - for the Holy Spirit to dwell between us, uniting us in the Body of Christ. But one does not exclude the other.

"To the Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfill everything, Treasure of the good and life to the Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all defilement, and save our souls, Better."

"The Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, abiding everywhere and filling everything, the Treasury of goods and life Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all defilement, and save our souls, Good One."

- The prayer "Heavenly King" is addressed to the Third Person of the Holy Trinity - the Holy Spirit, the Life-giving Lord, coming from the Father (see the Creed). The origin and authorship of this prayer is unknown, but there is reason to believe that it arose towards the end of the first millennium of the Christian era.

In addition, there is a custom to read "Heavenly King" in order to call upon the Holy Spirit before starting any business. Undoubtedly, one of these things is prayer, church worship. And this, presumably, explains the inclusion of the prayer "Heavenly King" in the ordinary beginning.

Finally, this prayer is one of the stichera of the service of Pentecost - and it was this circumstance that became the reason for our today's note. However, let us first consider the text of the prayer itself.

We address the Holy Spirit as the Heavenly King (cf. the beginning of the Lord's prayer: "Our Father who art in Heaven ..."). This conversion, strictly speaking, is not specific to the Third Hypostasis. Thus, for example, at Lenten Vespers the prayer “Heavenly to the King, strengthen the faith…” is read, which most likely refers to Christ - but this is not entirely clear; one can also think that it is addressed to the Holy Trinity.

This is followed by the appeal "Comforter" (Greek παράκλητος). This is how the Savior called the Holy Spirit in a conversation with his disciples: “And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him and does not know Him; and you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you ”(John 14: 16-17). In addition to the obvious meaning of "one who comforts", this word can also be understood in the meaning of "mediator", "go", "intercessor".

We speak of the Holy Spirit, as well as God "in general," as omnipresent: "Who is everywhere." The Church Slavonic expression that follows - "do everything" - probably confuses many. As can be seen from the above Russian translation, in this case we are not talking about the fulfillment of our prayers and desires, but all about the same - about the omnipresent Deity: "fulfill everything" means "everything that fills with Himself." However, something more can be seen here: the Holy Spirit not only "mechanically" fills the universe with Himself, but He revives it, supports its existence every second - otherwise everything would disintegrate and fall apart, since the world we see has no other reason for its own origin and lasting existence apart from God.

There is one more expression in the Church Slavonic translation of the prayer, which, as can be assumed, is misunderstood by many: “The treasure of the good” does not at all mean that the Holy Spirit is some kind of treasure for good people. No, the Life-giving Spirit is a treasury of goods, a receptacle and source of all that is good, good.

All those words and phrases that we were talking about now - all this was an appeal, which takes about two-thirds of the prayer. And then comes the pleading part.

What do we ask God for the Holy Spirit? We ask Him to come and dwell “in us”. The latter can be understood in two ways (and one understanding by no means excludes the other): either we want each of us to become the abode of the Spirit, the temple of God; or (cf. John 1:14) - so that the Holy Spirit dwell among us, between us, uniting us into one Body of Christ.

Then we ask that the Spirit, dwelling in us, cleanse us from all filth - that is, from passions, from sin - and that He, the Good (that is, the Good), would save our souls, that is, would deliver us from the power of the world, the devil and, again, our own passions, and that He would grant us the Kingdom of Heaven - that is, His own Kingdom (see the beginning of the prayer).

As mentioned above, the prayer "Heavenly King" is part of the service of the feast of Pentecost (otherwise, the Day of the Holy Trinity). Recall that this prayer is not read in the period from Easter to Pentecost: during the Easter period it is replaced by three times reading (or singing) of the troparion of Easter, and from Ascension to Easter it is not replaced by anything at all - and this significant absence emphasizes the tension with which the Church every year looks forward to the day of the sending of the Holy Spirit. And on the day of Pentecost, after seven weeks of a kind of abstinence, the prayer "To the Heavenly King" sounds again (it is often sung publicly) - first at Great Vespers, as the penultimate stichera on the verse, and then twice at Matins - after the 50th psalm and before the great doxology (instead of the usual "Blessed art Thou, Virgin Mary ..."). From that day on, "Heavenly King" is read daily until the first day of Easter.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit, the King of Heaven

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfill everything, Treasure of the good and life to the Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save our souls, Beloved.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of truth, abiding everywhere and filling everything, the Source of good things and the Giver of life, come and dwell in us and cleanse us from all sin and save our souls, O Good One.

This prayer is sung in the church before the beginning of the prayer service, and is also read or sung before the beginning of any work to invoke the Holy Spirit for help.

The text of the prayer to the Heavenly King sings one of the hypostases of our Lord. Unfortunately, it so happened that believers very rarely sing about the Holy Spirit, unlike all other Persons of the Holy Trinity. All this because the knowledge of people is based on the scriptures of the Gospel, which are highlighted in the Old Testament, where the expression of the Holy Spirit occurs three times. Twice in the book of Isaiah and once in 50 psalms.

Another characteristic fact of the difference between the Jewish and Christian faith is the understanding and interpretation of the essence of the Holy Spirit. In the first, the Spirit is not a person, a property of God the Father, that is, the totality of his Breath and Power.

Prayer to the Heavenly Comforter King

In the Gospel, the Heavenly King is mentioned more often. Probably every Christian knows that the Spirit came to the Savior during the Great Baptism. He also came to the apostles when they went to preach. That is why in the texts of the prayers to the Heavenly King you have to listen not to the usual refrain "rejoice" or "rejoice", but the word "come", which invites the third person of the Holy Trinity.

Very often a Christian cannot imagine the image of God, which consists of three persons, but at the same time is Inseparable and Consubstantial. Nevertheless, the entire Orthodox Christian doctrine is based on this dogma.

For clarity, the clergy advise comparing the Holy Trinity with the image of an earthly woman, who can also be in several faces at once:

Also, the Lord himself combines three essences in himself.

  • feast of the Holy Trinity - celebrated on the 50th day after the celebration of Easter;
  • the day of the Holy Spirit - Monday after the celebration of the Great Trinity.

The text of the prayer is as follows:

and cleanse us from all filthiness,

and save, Blazhe, our souls.

May the Lord protect you!

Orthodox prayer "Trisagion" (text in Russian)

Prayer is equal to a sacrament. This is a kind of relationship of man to God. Prayer is a human connection with the Lord, a conversation with him. The "Trisagion" prayer, the text of which you can read below, is a very simple but effective prayer to the Lord that can be read for any reason in everyday life.

Orthodox prayer "Trisagion" text in Russian

The Power of Prayer in Everyone's Life

Prayer has a very deep meaning. With the help of it, we can thank the Lord, praise him, ask for help or for forgiveness. At the moment of asking for forgiveness, we thus confess our sins, acknowledge them, and cleanse ourselves. When we begin to praise God, it means that we enjoy life, the world, what we have, what we breathe and live.

We often ask for wishes. At this moment, we penetrate deep into ourselves and find our true needs. With the help of prayer, a person can return to his real self, as he was originally created.

But prayer is not an ordinary retelling from memory or a selection of words, it is something that comes from the soul. And that prayer can be counted, which was uttered from the depths. This is possible only when we begin to understand the meaning of it in our life and only then we will become more serious about reading it.

Prayer text

below we give the full text of the prayer "Trisagion" in Russian with accents:

Holy God, Holy Krepky, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (we make the sign of the cross and bow in the bow)

Holy God, Holy Krepky, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (we make the sign of the cross and bow in the bow)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, both now and forever and forever and ever. Amen

History of the Trisagion Prayer

The more often we pass prayer through ourselves, the more we will be spiritually filled and join the spiritual life.

Each praying person should not think about the result of prayer. At this moment, you need to turn all your thoughts and direct them to God. He is the source of everything for all of us. Strength, life and various benefits. He himself knows who, when and what to give. And he also takes it only when, in his opinion, is the time.

In order to be a Christian, 5 minutes in the morning and in the evening devoted to prayer will be enough. But this is possible if it is pronounced from the heart, with feeling and understanding. Thought during prayer should correspond to the words, a deep understanding of the spoken words will always be heard.

History of the Prayer "Trisagion"

  • This prayer is always recited three times in the name of the well-known Holy Trinity. "Angelic song" is another name for this prayer.
  • Three saints Christians began to pray after the earthquake in Constantinople, during which many houses and settlements were damaged .. When the people added to the prayer the Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal "have mercy on us, the earthquake stopped in an instant.
  • Holy God is the first person of God the Father. The Holy Mighty One is the Son of God. He is the same as the Father - almighty. The Holy Immortal is the Holy Spirit, which is not only eternal in itself, but gives life to all living beings.
  • The Prayer is called the Trisagion, because each word "holy" is repeated three times in it.

Body position during prayer

Various postures and gestures are used during prayer. You can pray while standing, you can kneel, you can with your hands in front of you, sometimes bows are made. In general, it is very important that the person praying also involves the body. You can, of course, pray while lying down, but this is if you are sick. Or while we are traveling, we are sitting silently praying.

But in ordinary life, it is necessary to adhere to the prayers while standing, and if you find yourself at the service in the Temple, then you must correspond to the parishioners there. Accustom yourself to Prayer and your life will certainly begin to improve. Be grateful for what you have.

If you have any questions or need help in your current life situation, you can consult with our experts.

I would like to add that even when there is no strength to pray while standing, you only have to overpower yourself, and you immediately feel God's help and strength appears. It was by trying to get up to read the prayer that I was able to raise myself to my feet after a very serious illness. I could not pray lying down, I knew that I had to get up, go to the Temple. And I did it. Prayer "Blessed" is the main prayer of any believer.

Heavenly King

Heavenly King - the abbreviated name of the prayer to the Holy Spirit, which begins with the words: “Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth ...” From Easter to Ascension, instead of this prayer, the troparion of Easter “Christ is Risen…” is read, but from Ascension to the Day of the Holy Trinity it is not read.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfill everything, Treasure of the good and life to the Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save our souls, Beloved.

Soul - spirit. Izhe - which. The one who is - who is, who is. Do everything - filling everything. Treasure is a storehouse, a source. The good are the good. Get into us - get into us. Filth is sin.

Translation: Heavenly King, Comforter (Counselor, Instructor), Spirit of truth, who exists everywhere (located) and fills everything (with His presence), Treasure of blessings and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, cleanse us from all sin and save us, All-good, our souls.

In this prayer we pray to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity. We call in it the Holy Spirit the Heavenly King, because He, as the true God, equal to God the Father and God the Son, invisibly reigns over us, owns us and the whole world.

We call him the Comforter because He comforts us in our sorrows and misfortunes.

We call Him the Spirit of truth (as the Savior Himself called Him), because He, like the Holy Spirit, teaches everyone only one truth, truth, only that which is useful for us and serves to our salvation. He is God, and He is everywhere and fills everything with Himself: Who is everywhere and fulfill everything.

He, as the ruler of the whole world, sees everything and, where needed, gives. He is the treasure of the good, that is, the keeper of all good deeds, the source of all that is good that one needs to have.

We call the Holy Spirit - the Giver of life, because everything in the world lives and moves by the Holy Spirit, that is, everything receives life from Him, and especially people receive from Him spiritual, holy and eternal life beyond the grave, being cleansed through Him from their sins.

We turn to Him with the request: “Come and dwell in us,” that is, constantly abide in us, as in your temple, cleanse us from all filth, that is, sin, make us holy, worthy of Your stay in us, and Save us, Good Source of the highest good, our souls from sins and through this grant us the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Publican's Prayer with some similar petitions can be read at will.

Priest's opening exclamation or home private beginning.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit "Heavenly King".

Trisagion according to our Father. Tropari.

And which are read after Easter. At the end of all prayers, the final prayers are always read.

The beginning of prayers in the Temple and home (Cell) prayer have some difference compared.

Church Prayer Start Home Prayer Start

There are two options for starting home prayers.

(1) It is permissible to insert your favorite saints in home prayers.

Through the prayers of our holy father, our Lord Jesus Christ is our God, have mercy on us. Amen.

And the question is often asked how canonically correctly read them? Indeed, even in different prayer books, prayers begin in these two versions.

Both options are correct. Why?

In Russia and around the world, the Mother of God is very much revered, thousands of icons and temples.

And remembering the Gospel story of what happened in Cana of Gallilee. When, at the request of his Mother, our Lord Jesus Christ turned simple water into good wine. This is how the first miracle of the Lord happened.

According to the legend of the Holy Fathers, as described on the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin. The Apostle Thomas was late for the funeral and asked to open the coffin for farewell and when, at his request, they opened it. The Mother of God was not found there, but only the shroud was found, as proof that She was buried there.

The Church has always believed that the Mother of God was resurrected by His Son and God and taken to heaven with her body:

"I will not see the honest body of the Blessed Virgin of corruption in the grave: both She and her body will go from earth to heaven."

"The body of God, even if it dwells in the tomb, but is not accustomed to stay in the tomb, it rises in the power of the Divine."

For it was not fitting for the village of Life, (the synaxarum says to the holiday), to be held back by death. And the creature that gave birth to the Creator in an uncorrupted body, left to decay in the earth with all the created.

Therefore, we turn to the Mother of God with faith and hope. Knowing and believing that She is here next to us, and the Son who said “Honor the parents” will hear the request.

Option two: just a little short. Our holy fathers - this means that these are all saints together with the Mother of God, only in the sense of the ancestors.

In addition to this beginning of the initial prayers, there is a pious tradition to add a few more petitions, similar to the prayer of a publican. They help to withdraw from the affairs of everyday life and more zealously tune in to prayer.

There is some subtlety in domestic or private prayers. As the monks say, the cell does not know the charter. You can assign yourself some kind of relaxation or, on the contrary, load yourself somewhat. The main thing in this matter is to fulfill your prayer rule regularly. And preferably under the guidance of a spiritual father.

Those saints to whom we turn with prayer, not by the number of prayers read, met the Lord in heaven. And here on earth the Lord visited them, who loved Him and all people. "God is love "

The robber on the cross repented and became the first Christian to say.

“And he said to Jesus: remember me, Lord, when you come into your kingdom! [Luke 23:42] "

Before starting the prayer, stand reverently, presenting yourself before the All-Seeing God, and, making the sign of the cross, say:

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Then wait a little until all your feelings come into silence and your thoughts leave everything earthly, and then say the following prayers, without haste and with heartfelt attention:

God, have mercy on me a sinner. (Bow)

This is read at will

The history of prayer to the "King of Heaven" is more than a thousand years old. According to the research conducted, it was not yet known in the charter of Constantinople in the 9th century.

And this fact allows us to confidently attribute the time of its appearance to the end of the ninth and the beginning of the tenth century. According to scientists, prayer to the Heavenly King has been transferred to the tradition of home prayer practice.

It is impossible to determine the authorship and sources of origin of the prayer. On this score, there are different opinions, someone believes that the authorship of the prayer to the Holy Spirit belongs to a hermit monk, someone thinks that the text is the creation of the emperor-hymnographer, or it is a kind of example of adaptation of heretical prayer that first appeared in iconoclastic circles.

In the Orthodox interpretation, the petition to the "Heavenly King" is a text filled with dogmatic meaning for the Orthodox consciousness. And this prayer is addressed to the Holy Spirit, which is worth listening to. It should be borne in mind that the Orthodox doctrine recognizes three hypostases of the One God. For each hypostasis there is a separate appeal to the comforter.

Heavenly Patron in this case is the title that the worshipers have endowed with the Almighty.

The Roman Empire also serves as a kind of source, serving as a reinforcement of this title.

Using a prayer appeal

Today, a prayer request to the King is increasingly heard as an invocation, that is, when God is prayerfully called upon before group and personal prayers to the Holy Spirit. Orthodox practice calls this "the usual beginning" when they listen to the appeals to the "Heavenly King", the prayers of the Holy Trinity and "Our Father".

In divine services, such an appeal to the comforter is used as a stichera of the Holy Spirit, which is listened to at Vespers. It is dedicated to the feast of Pentecost and the Day of the Holy Trinity. This prayer originated in temple worship and is gradually being heard and used in home practice.

Prayer to the "Heavenly King"

"To the Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of truth, Who is everywhere and fulfill everything, Treasure of the good and life to the Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all defilement, and save our souls, Better."

Interpretation of a prayer appeal

A supplication to the King is a petition for the indulgence of the Holy Spirit and the outpouring of His presence. This is a petition for the implementation of the charismatic anointing, due to which the prayer is listened to at any group worship and rite, in home prayer addresses, when it becomes necessary to make it inspired, filled with the presence of the Holy Spirit.
