Andrey, you recently turned 40 years old. It is generally accepted that for men this age is a kind of frontier, a moment of reassessment of values. Has something similar happened to you?
This has always happened to me, regardless of age. You always think about it, draw conclusions for the time you have lived, whether it be a week, a month or a day. Perhaps, in connection with the date, these feelings have become somewhat aggravated, but not so much as to be surprised at this.
In 2011, you also celebrated the anniversary of your creative activity. Do you remember how it all started?
It's confusing (laughs).
Troubled times in your life?
No. I think more and more often about the future than about the past, so the past is gradually erased from my memory.
"Bachelor Party" was mega popular due to its provocative lyrics. When did you feel famous?
I've never really felt the burden of fame, the opportunities that come with it, or anything like that. All the money that we earned on that project, I spent on the parallel project "Oak Gaay". In this connection, my financial well-being in those days did not improve much. I was just happy to be able to do what I love - music. Unfortunately, in those days there were no opportunities for recording at home, computers were not common as they are now, and it was very cool to come to a real music studio to record what you want. I didn't need anything else at the time!
With the advent of the "Bachelor Party" in your life, there must have been more attention from the girls. Were there any crazy things the fans did?
I remember how, before the next presentation of the new record, which took place in the sports complex "Druzhba" - an upside down little thing in Luzhniki - for some reason it was decided to say that the entrance was free for girls. There were a lot of girls there. Glasses were even broken in the crush, someone was hurt and cut. I take this opportunity to apologize for this. It was not my idea, but such was the case.
Tell us about the Russian music scene in the 90s. How were things then? Still, that time was a turning point both in our country and in general.
If in a nutshell, or even in one - it was a frenzy, universal and everywhere. The feeling that you can do whatever you want. What people did. But most of the time it was money. Decided television and the ability to pay for this television. If you had money, you were a star no matter what you did. So, going back to the success of The Bachelor Party, I think that 50% of that success was the lack of competition as such and the fact that we were able to pay for television, at first, until we became famous. I think that if similar, even more interesting teams had such an opportunity, they could compete with us.
At that time, legends, heroes of a generation were born. Do you consider yourself as such?I always have the feeling that I have not completed something, that there is always something ahead.
Every generation has its musical heroes. It may not be related to what they did and the quality of the product they performed. It's just that when we're young, we get our first strong musical impression for the first time. It's great if it was good and worthy and stayed with us for life. But sometimes, for reasons beyond our control, we can get a bad impression. And since it was the brightest, it will forever be with us and will remain. Another point is that a person grows up and realizes that it was funny and interesting at that time, but only because he was young then. It is very strange to meet people who say: "That was the best thing you did!". This means that the person has not progressed anywhere.
How do you predominantly see your audience? After all, there are people who grew up with you and remain with you, and there are those who joined you at some specific moment in your work.
I remember that we were also interested in this question, and we conducted a survey: "From which record did you get acquainted with the work of Dolphin?". Who won, I do not remember. The bottom line is that if "Depth of Field" began to listen to 40%, then "Youth" began to listen to 30%. This means that another 30% has already been added to these 40%. That is, the number of audience is growing.
Looking back, what accomplishments do you see as the most significant?
I always have the feeling that I have not completed something, that there is always something ahead. It’s like I’m reaching out, and still I can’t reach it, just a little more ... It’s time to finish the record, but it seems to have not been completed yet. You just need to say "stop" at some point and start doing something new.
You just have inexhaustible creative energy.
Rather, it is a feeling of incompleteness. I didn't think about a single record: "Yes, this is the perfect work." It happens that I am very pleased with something, but over time it seems that much has been done wrong. This is fine.
Do you think there will come a moment when you decide: "Now that's it, now everything is fine"?
I think that if I ever really realize this, this will probably be the end of it. This will be the end.
Before us is such a smiling and quite friendly person, so why is there so much hopelessness, sadness, pain in your early work? Was it a worldview or life circumstances that were then relevant?
Partly life circumstances that, one way or another, influenced the worldview, in which I found some niche for myself. It may sound like self-justification, but I think that this is quite normal when you are in your own territory and you are comfortable in it. There are film directors who shoot mainly psychological dramas or comedies, and every time they do it equally well. They use the same techniques, honing them from time to time, presenting the audience from the most attractive side. I also do something similar, I convey my experiences to people in a way that is possible only for myself.
Has the tone of the experience changed?I have a wonderful family, I am very happy with it. The older I get, the more I realize how lucky I am.
The tone has probably not changed, but it has become more minimalistic. Compared to art canvases, I used to draw in accessible and more understandable ways, using red on black or white on black. Now many halftones have appeared - from very deep to whitish, sometimes in the same palette. It can be black and white songs, but not contrasting, but with many shades of gray.
Tell me about your family.
I have a wonderful family, I am very happy with it. The older I get, the more I realize how lucky I am. If earlier I took it for granted, now I am very sensitive to this, because around me there are various events in the families of my friends and acquaintances. Not always pleasant. It is both terrible and sad. And that's not good.
Let's get back to music. Your view on the modern domestic scene.
It seems to me that we do not have such artists whose work can be discussed, like the work of Radiohead, for example. Yes, we can say that this record is successful, and that one is more successful, precisely from an artistic point of view. Everything we have is something like that ... none.
Are there artists who haven't gained weight yet but have a lot of potential who are really doing something honest? For example, now the wave of post-rock has begun. Are there any discoveries for you?
I'm sure there are decent bands and musicians, but unfortunately I don't know them. But what is now being heard, and what some fashion magazines are promoting, in my opinion, is complete nonsense.
For example?
Magazines like "Posters", which open to the general public supposedly new names like Tesla Boy. It's such a secondary product! I grew up with this music that he tries to play. If you listen to the music of the 80s and compare, it immediately becomes clear what is real and what is nonsense. Moreover, by the will of fate, I know what Anton Sevidov did when he did not have a contract with Universal. He made his own music, which was much better than what he's doing now, because it was his own music.
And now it's just a fashion-commercial story?
Yes, this is a fashion commercial story with oblique bangs.
And if we talk, for example, about Lagutenko?
In my opinion, this person gained a lot and quickly, but over time he turned from an advanced artist into an artist of the parody genre. Really reminds me of Valery Leontiev, because nothing new is happening. And all these electronic projects are ridiculous.
The Keta project, for example, is being praised.
Who is praising? "Poster"? The musicians themselves, as a musical group, are very good, they can play very good and interesting music. But, when you earn most of the money at corporate parties, this is probably no longer possible.
Do you perform at corporate parties?
We only play on Halloween. Our corporate party is Halloween (laughs).
They say that you are not very friendly with your audience, that you are rude, that you do not contact the listeners who come to the concert because they love you and appreciate your work. It requires giving, and they come and get disappointed.
I don't know what they mean. Perhaps they confuse me with performers who communicate with the audience, tell some stories or anecdotes between songs, jump into the audience. This is not happening with us. I go out, say hello, and we play. And we do it as well as possible for this moment in time.
What are your creative sources?
In most cases, I read something, I look, but more and more often there is a feeling of wasted time.
Did you enjoy being an actor? Would you still agree to do it?
Yes. Last summer, I even auditioned for a role in the film "Brest Fortress". They put on the uniform of the war years, mutilated my face, and I even learned some words. Didn't pass the test. A well-known actor was taken for this role - the surname flew out of my head, he played in Boomer. Merzlikin, I think.
You have a lot of tattoos, tell us about them. When did you get your first tattoo?
At 18, it was something to do with a dolphin.
Any iconic tattoos?
No. But I am sure that the symbols applied to the body, one way or another, affect their owner. I know people who do it purely for aesthetic reasons, but these are strange people - they smear tattoos with sunscreen so that they do not fade. I always did it spontaneously, and perhaps I should have given it more importance, but I only realized after that what had happened to me.
Andrei, all your albums are very different from each other - in music, in lyrics, in depth of mood, while maintaining a recognizable unique style. How can you yourself describe the evolution that has taken place in your work? And most importantly - how are you going to surprise your fans this time?
Now it is difficult to draw conclusions about the material just recorded, it will take time to really appreciate it. I can say that this album is the most literary in the good sense of the word. There is no limit to perfection, but this material is closest to poetry, to literature than previous records, more concentrated.
What is the main message of the new work?
In short, the main message is beauty, as I imagine it, and the maximum approximation to it, regardless of the form in which it is expressed.
Do you write all the music yourself? Who did you work with on the last record?
We recorded it in the same lineup in which we worked on "Youth": me, guitarist Pavel Dodonov and sound engineer Renat Ibragimov.
Tell me, do you consider yourself a happy person?
Where do you like to spend your free time?
These can be completely different places - starting from a country house of friends, ending with a trip to another country on the coast of a warm sea.
Where are you more drawn to: to the West to Europe or to the East to Asia?
Probably more to Asia. There are fewer conventions and at the same time more opportunities to be alone. There is always something to talk about with yourself.

Once upon a time, the whole country listened to him, plugging his ears. Non-stop sex refrain and obscene language set to hip-hop music wafted from every other doorway. Now the former lead singer of the group "Malcishnik" sings little about sex, but still occupies the top lines of the charts, his latest album "Star" is generally called almost the best Russian musical product, and according to the most critical critics, the guy really showed up composer talent. Although Dolphin himself once admitted that he had no ear for music.
Before meeting with the musician, I was warned: Dolphin would only talk about music. I didn't believe it. And she was not mistaken: 32-year-old Andrei Lysikov was not afraid to talk about his personal life, and about countless tattoos, and even about his wife and daughter, whom he always hid from journalists. For this, I, in turn, did not torment him with the most asked question: why Andrei is called Dolphin. Especially since I already knew this.
Sex is in fashion. It remains to hone the skillFor those who do not know, I'm telling you: the nickname for the lead singer of the Dolphin group was assigned by accident. When he was selling nesting dolls on the Arbat. For this occupation, he got into the police: they tried to beat one guy, and the future star stood up. To which she received the answer: “Be quiet, otherwise you will go with us like a dolphin.”
- How did you get into trading nesting dolls?
This was even before The Bachelor Party. After radio engineering. I thought that they would teach me there, but without mazy. He went to shine in the theater. It was one of the private theatres. There were crazy performances. When the leading lady showed boobs. And I covered it. Worked there for a year. And I felt uncomfortable. Therefore, he went to trade nesting dolls on Novy Arbat.
There was a restructuring. They traded for currency - everyone wanted to earn money. Needless to say, I got a lot out of it. But life was enough. True, then there was an article for foreign exchange transactions. I had to run away from the operatives. But in general it was more of a hangout place. We danced breakdance and traded matryoshka dolls between dances.
And all sorts of obscene language, “sex without a break” - they spontaneously came up with this, and then they realized: cool, or did they deliberately decide to shock?
Honestly? We decided to deliberately shock the public. At the age of 18-20, they were fond of hip-hop. The main theme of the songs was sex. It is possible that the words of the texts caused shock in an unprepared listener. But they realized that people hawala. Of course, accusations had to be heard. True, we were glad that the project was scandalous. And the producer clutched his head and was proud of us.
- But after all, they could find trouble on their own heads, it was still Soviet time ...
Yes, I remember that after the video for “Sex Without a Break” was shown on the first channel of the all-Union television, a huge scandal erupted. From this incident, the "Bachelor Party" began to have problems not only with television, but also with radio stations and the press. In order to take part in the TV show “Muzoboz's Playground”, we even had to urgently record a soundtrack that could be approved by television censorship. It was the song "Dancing".
Why did they change the theme now? Is sex no longer in fashion?
Why? Sex is in fashion. It's just that with him all the problems have already been solved, and it remains only to hone his skills. In fact, it would be funny now if I jumped in short pants on stage. I am growing up, and it is logical that I am changing.
tattoo man- Open the secret - what have you pricked for so many years?
I will open. This dolphin on my arm is my favorite tattoo. Even with bleach. Visited salons fifteen times. For me, it's always a spontaneous decision. I have a friend who went to school with him who does this. The main thing, he says: come and drink tea. I'm coming. Seagulls ends with another tattoo. Made it recently. On the back is a shadow from a bird. Well, there are all sorts of abstract drawings. I think maybe go to henna. They say it's less dangerous.
Rumor has it that Dolphin is not alien to art at all: your masterpiece called “Eyes” became the cover of the last single.
I sketched this face with the eyes of the singer Stella in 15 minutes. Sometimes there is a desire to do something. Or sit down with my daughter to draw. She herself, and I - after her. We have a reciprocal relationship.
By the way, if your 5-year-old Eva says: dad, I want like you. Well, not in The Bachelor Party, of course. And so - to sing, for example. From the cruel world of show business would not dissuade?
He's cruel to fictional people. For the one who is made. For such people, it is very scary. If you don’t just go there, like to work, but do something of your own, it’s not at all so terrible.
They say that at first you refused to record a duet with Stella. Is there tension in communication with foreign stars?
Duet is a tricky thing. And even more so when you do not know a person who is from another country. But when I saw her, everything changed. The first thing that struck me was her eyes. Huge blue. We talked, I read her poems and realized for myself that you can deal with her. When she began to sing, I generally understood: we are very close people. Moreover, she lived at my house, and we communicated with her without knowing the language: I am English, and she is Russian. I know twenty words in English. The rest was expressed in Russian words and gestures.
“I realized that I love my wife only a year ago”- So you say, they say, change and all that. To whom do you dedicate songs?
The latest disc “Star” is entirely dedicated to my wife Lika (she has nothing to do with music. - Auth.). We originally wanted to make a record that was as different as possible from other works. Therefore, they created it with other people, because all musicians have their own style. If earlier I wrote with slogans, now the songs, so to speak, are more of a contemplative plan.
- Is the history of acquaintance with Lika a big secret for a small company?
I'll tell you. We were introduced somehow on April 1 at the birthday of the Titanic club. My friends are musicians. They told me what a good girl is and how she suits me, and they sang the same about me to her. When we met, I felt calm and confident that next to her I could be who I really am. She knows me so well now, even more than I do. In general, I realized that I love my wife a year ago. Before that, I only knew that this is a person without whom it is hard for me and I need him. We've been getting closer to each other lately. I like it.
What then is love for you?
Roughly speaking - a feeling of being needed by another person. I really understand that, except for Lika, by and large, no one needs it. After all, to one degree or another, they use each other: I am someone, they are me.
There is little joyful in the texts of your songs: everything is about death and tears. Optimistic notes, of course, are present, but rather as a hope for something better. Is it due to isolation and lack of optimism?
Actually I am an optimist. Although at first glance it is not clear. As for isolation... I don't feel uncomfortable when I'm alone. I don't feel compelled to immediately call someone. Perhaps this is due to the great attention paid to me as a person. Plus, I'm a jealous person. This is probably why there are no musicians among my friends.
- You recently became the poet of the year. Who contributed to receiving the pathetic award?
I have no idea. There was a commission of 7-8 people, and everyone had the right to nominate their own candidate. I was Mr. Voznesensky's candidate. This was a surprise for me. Most importantly, on time. I was not in Moscow at all, and at the presentation, too. Two and a half thousand dollars went to: 50 thousand divided by twenty people. Came to the bank - and received. But who whispered to Voznesensky about the singer Dolphin is still a mystery.
- As a rock musician you don't get sick of pop music?
And what is good. I even like her sometimes. Justin Timberlake, for example. The song “Toxic” by Britney Spears, her melodic series. Maybe individual tracks from Mumiy Troll.
Really just sniffed- How do you get out of stress? Well, there, cut the car under 150 and rev on the night streets ...
Sometimes I catch myself thinking that it's dangerous to step on the gas at night. I'm not extreme at all. I love comfortable conditions, and a desert island is not for me. Let's say I wouldn't go with a stone in my hand to the barricades, but I could write a song that would call people there. Also, music makes me feel better. From classic.
- What about alcohol?
You can drink. At one time I was fond of Armenian cognac. Now I'm trying to experiment in this direction. But this is not a panacea.
- So, drugs in your life are definitely in the past?
In a past life, I would say. Even if I am offered to relax in this way, I will refuse. In fact, I only dabbled in heroin. sniffed. But one fine day, a close friend came to me and said that if I didn’t quit, he would no longer communicate with me. And I decided to just get it over with. Coincidentally, at this time we just went on tour for two weeks, and I did not use anything. A month later I realized at the bottom of which hole I was lying. At first, the use even stimulates mental activity and you can extract something new for yourself. Like writing a new song. But then it ends in a nightmare anyway.
- Do you have many shortcomings?
Like everyone else, there is. I would like to think faster. What I'm noticing is that what's really happening is that I need to think for a day to accept any answer. I want to be kinder to people. Maybe not for everyone. But at least close ones. I'm quite a selfish person. I think more about myself.
- Well, what about the good? I look at you: such a kind one is sitting, chopping the truth...
I'm more gentle than kind. If you do not do good deeds, then this is not kindness. It's like it was sung in the song: "I'm kind, but I didn't do good to anyone."
Dolphin is almost the only domestic musician who admitted that he has no ear for music. However, in the rap genre he has chosen, his presence is not necessary. Dolphin's appearance also does not stand out - a thin, round-shouldered young man, except that there are a lot of tattoos. Nevertheless, the cultivation of the music of muttering African Americans by the MTV-Russia channel has done its job - the style has become popular in our northern country, and Dolphin has become a youth idol. The future "Dolphin" Andrey Lysikov was born in Moscow on September 29, 1971. From an early age, the young man was attracted to "street culture", which in those years was only in its infancy. Andrey's musical career began on the Old Arbat, which in the late 80s was occupied by nesting doll dealers and informals. Dolphin also sold something and "at the same time" danced a fashionable break dance. The police protected the merchants, having good interest from them, and chased the penniless party-goers. Dolphin owes his nickname to one Arbat "pharaoh". "Be quiet, otherwise you will go with us like a dolphin," the policeman told the dancer. The word stuck, and Andrei became a Dolphin. Now he has a whole collection of figurines of these animals at home.
In 1991, producer Alexei Adamov organized the group "Bachelor Party", which, in addition to Delfin, included Dan (now DJ Dan) and Mutabor. The trio performed sexually horny recitative songs ("... I had her sitting, I had her lying down, and I had her on my head too ...") and enjoyed considerable popularity. Moreover, some of their songs (for example, "Dancing") were even played on TV. By the way, most of the texts of the project "Bachelor Party" belonged to the pen of Dolphin
In 1993, Dolphin felt like a musician and decided to move away from teenage rap to do something more alternative. He created the solo project "Oak Gaai", which gained fame only in narrow circles. Performances as part of the Bachelor Party also continued, but gradually became more and more episodic, as the group lost the powerful producer support that accompanied it at first. The final attenuation of the project dates back to 1996. Dolphin completely focused on his solo career. in addition to "Oak Gaai" I, he had a group "Mishin's Dolphins", as well as the project "Not a Bachelor Party", under the brand name of which the album "Not in Focus" was released. In this work, Dolphin dramatically changes the sexual theme, composing a number of numbers filled with hopelessness and reflections on the meaninglessness of life. The texts of the album were directly related to the state of health of Dolphin, who was firmly on drugs. "Did heroin," as he later called it. Most of the songs on the "out of focus" disc are about drug addiction, because "at that moment it was difficult to talk about anything else." Nevertheless, by an effort of will, Dolphin managed to get involved with drugs. In the summer of 1997, Dolphin scandalously took part in the music program of the second international bike show. His "Dealer" and "I Love People" did not impress the overheated liquor and fast bikers, and beer cans and other debris flew at the performer. The dolphin was offended, swore at the audience and, taking off his pants, showed the audience their contents. After Dolphin sang everything, including obscene, the words of the song "I love people" on the air of the "Party Zone" TV-6, he was no longer allowed on television
In the summer of 1998, Andrei and his wife Lika had a daughter, Eva. In the same year, Dolphin began work on the album "Depth of Field". The lyrics of his songs have become much softer (here are several names: "Faith", "Hope", "Love"), profanity has disappeared altogether (although the disc cover contained a warning about its presence)
Dolphin signed a contract with Cream Records, but the release of the disc was postponed several times, and it was released only in the 99th. Under the gloomy and at the same time naive texts, Dolphin put modern samples, finally approaching alternative music in form. In the song "Door", he, perhaps, for the first time did not mutter, but sang the chorus (it was recorded, given the problems with musical hearing, with several takes), and in the composition "Love" he used beautiful female backing vocals. The MTV channel enthusiastically undertook to turn his clips, and Dolphin quickly turned into a youth hero. He has a rather busy tour schedule, and Moscow concerts are always a success. Recently, Dolphin began to pay attention to the visual side of the show. If earlier during concerts he simply walked hunched over the stage and spoke the text into the microphone, now with the help of director Pavel Ruminov a slide program has been prepared, which is shown on the screens. Break groups sometimes take part in concerts. It’s just that concerts cannot be made completely live, and Dolphin reads his rap usually to a minus phonogram. At the beginning of 2000, Dolphin gave a big concert at the Moscow Palace of Youth. The recording made at this performance became the basis of the concert disc "I Will Live" released in May and the video cassette of the same name. In addition to raising his daughter, Dolphin is fond of small scooters - scooters. To move around Moscow, he prefers this particular type of transport.
Dolphin is a singer, musician, poet and philosopher. He is the voice of the 90s generation. Former member of the scandalous group, the alternative rock group "Dubovy Gaay" and the experimental project "Mishina Dolphins". It was he who stood at the origins of Russian rap.
During his musical career, the singer performed compositions of various genres. He compiled rock, rap and electronic sound, entering the uncharted territory of alternative music. Dolphin is one of the most closed and mysterious musicians on the Russian stage.
Childhood and youth
Lysikov Andrei Vyacheslavovich, better known to the public under the pseudonym Dolphin, was born on September 29, 1971 in Moscow. He spent his childhood in a communal apartment on Plyushchikha. I studied well at school, but without pleasure. Easily found a common language with classmates and teachers.
After graduating from school, he entered the Moscow Radio-Mechanical College, but, after completing three courses, he decided to leave it. The young man began to work. First he got a job as an illuminator in the theater, then he sold souvenirs on the Arbat, he was engaged in the sale of sheepskin coats.
In the late 80s, he became interested in breakdancing and hip-hop. He achieved considerable success in dancing - he traveled all over the country in the composition of dance teams, more than once became the winner at festivals.
In those years, Andrei accidentally got his now popular nickname. Together with the guys he danced on the Arbat, but by coincidence he was detained by the police. In the department, one guy was beaten, and Andrei decided to stand up for him, to which the sergeant reacted with the following phrase:
“Be quiet, otherwise you will go with us like a dolphin.”
So Dolphin clung, later becoming a creative pseudonym.
Music
Soon Andrei realized that he wanted to make music. In 1989, a young man, together with his comrades Oleg Bashkov (Deer) and Pavel Galkin (Mutabor), created the Oak Gaai collective. And soon the scandalous group "Bachelor Party" appeared on the musical arena, one of the participants of which was Dolphin. The producer of the group was Alexei Adamov.
It was a sexual revolution in music. The guys performed such provocative songs that literally "Bachelor Party" shook the foundations of Russian show business. The group's most popular songs are Sex Control, Sex Without a Break, I Love People, Skittles.
In 1992, in parallel with the Bachelor Party, Dolphin recorded three albums at once as part of Oak Gaaya - Suicidal Disco, Stop Killing Dolphins and Blue Lyrics No. 2. The work of this group is very different from the "Bachelor Party". Here, the themes of the inevitability of fate, thoughts of suicide and drugs prevail in the texts, and depression and calmness emanates from the music.
Dolphin in the group "Oak Gaai" In 1996, Dolphin leaves the "Bachelor Party" and "Oak Gaai" and decides to pursue a solo career. He creates two different musical projects - Misha Dolphins and Dolphin.
The Misha Dolphins included Andrey and Mikhail Voinov. The guys recorded only one album "Toys" and gave only one concert. But the Dolphin project exists to this day. His first album, Out of Focus, was recorded in 1997. According to music critics, this disc by Dolphin can be considered the greatest in the history of Russian rap in the late 90s.
His second album, Depth of Field, became a kind of continuation of Out of Focus. It is also created using samples of famous compositions. The album was sold in large numbers and became the beginning of dolphin mania.
Dolphin - "Door"Clips were shot for the songs "Love", "I will live" and "Door". All of them got into the rotation of MTV. A year later, the album "Fins" is recorded, but it does not receive a response and recognition from the audience.
In 2001, the album "Fabrics" was released, where for the first time Dolphin did not use samples of popular compositions. By the way, it included the song "Tenderness", which the singer dedicated to his daughter Eva. Dolphin's most commercially successful album is Zvezda. It was released in 2004, the songs began to be played on the radio, and many knew the words of the compositions “Spring” and “Silver” by heart.
