How to connect a water heater in the country. How to connect a water heater to electricity - errors, choice of cable, socket, circuit breaker What is the connection from the boiler to the bathtub

In this article we will look at a diagram for connecting an electric storage water heater (boiler) to an apartment’s water supply system, and we will also tell you how to fill the boiler with water and how to drain the water from the boiler to replace or repair it.

Main elements of the boiler connection diagram:

  • tap 1 - hot water inlet tap
  • tap 2 - cold water inlet tap
  • tap 3 - hot water supply tap from the boiler
  • tap 4 - cold water supply tap to the boiler.
  • tap 5 - air suction valve for draining the boiler
  • tap 6 - drain tap
  • safety valve

Instead of a tap 3 And 4 one of the terminals of the corresponding collector can be used.

Water Heater Safety Valve

The safety valve combines two functions:

1 -Check valve, that is, it allows water to flow in only one direction, to the boiler. This is necessary to prevent spontaneous drainage of water from the tank, for example, when turning off cold water, to prevent burnout of the boiler heating element.

2 -Emergency pressure relief valve. When the water in the boiler heats up, the pressure increases; if it exceeds the permissible value, a small part of the water will be released through the valve. Therefore, it is better to drain water from the pressure valve into the sewer in advance using a rubber hose. Typically this valve is included with the water heater. There are two types: with and without a flag. The flag allows you to manually drain water from the boiler, but its capacity is very small, and if the tank capacity is large, then it will take several hours to drain the water through the safety valve. For convenience and speeding up the process of draining water, a drain tap is installed 6 .

The safety valve flag is often fixed with a screw and the question arises whether to unscrew it or not, whether this will affect the functioning of the valve. We answer: this is protection against accidental opening of the valve manually, for example from children. The operation of the valve in automatic mode is not affected. You don't have to unscrew it. If you need to use the valve to drain water or for prevention, the screw is removed.

Installation of a safety valve when installing a boiler is mandatory; it is also impossible to install a regular check valve instead. In this case, the second function is not performed and the water heater may simply burst under pressure!

How to determine whether a ball valve is closed or open?

The boiler is switched on by switching several valves. Sometimes there are difficulties in determining what position the tap is currently in - open or closed. This can easily be done by the position of the knob, which can be made in the form of a butterfly or a lever.

  • The tap is closed- the butterfly or lever is located across the axis of the faucet, as if blocking the direction of water flow.
  • The tap is open- the knob is located along the axis of the tap.

Filling the boiler with water and putting it into operation

The order of opening and closing taps is also important, so it is better not to violate it, especially if you do not know how the system works.

  • - close the drain taps 5 And 6
  • - Close the tap 1 (hot water inlet tap)
  • - open the tap 3
  • - open the tap 2 (cold water inlet tap)
  • - open the tap 4

After this, water will begin to flow into the boiler, and it will be partially filled; to completely fill the tank, you need to open the tap for a while 5 , or hot water on any mixer so that the air in the boiler comes out. As soon as water flows from the tap, the tank is full and the system is ready for use. Now you need to turn on the power supply to the boiler.

Boiler shutdown

Typically, a water heater in an apartment is installed to provide hot water while it is turned off, so after the hot water supply from the central boiler room has been restored, you need to turn off the boiler and restore the normal water supply from the risers. In this case, the water from the boiler does not need to be drained. To do this you need:

  • - Close the tap 4
  • - Close the tap 3
  • - open the tap 1
  • - open the tap 2

Draining water from the boiler

Complete drainage of water from the water heater is required for its replacement or repair, as well as for the winter period in unheated rooms, for example in a country house. Don't forget to turn off the power.

  • - Close the tap 4
  • - Close the tap 3
  • - open the tap 6 , some of the water will drain into the sewer
  • - open the tap 5 so that the rest of the water drains out. If your system does not have a faucet 5 (it is not always installed), you need:
    • - Close the tap 1
    • - open the tap 3
    • - open the hot water tap on the mixer
    • - open the valve corresponding to the mixer on the hot water collector

After all the water has drained

  • - Close the tap 5
  • - Close the tap 6
  • - Close the tap 3
  • - Close the tap 4
  • - open the tap 1 And 2 to restore normal water supply from the hot and cold water risers.

Organizing the drainage of the boiler into the sewer system

Since complete drainage of water from the boiler is not often required, there is no need to permanently connect the taps 5 And 6 to the sewer, then during draining you will have to use a container of suitable volume or temporarily connect hoses to these taps. But it is much more convenient to ensure a constant connection. The difficulty is that it is difficult to ensure a tight connection of the hoses to the sewerage system, otherwise the aromas from the riser will leak into the apartment. You can, of course, use silicone, but it is much more practical to use a flexible liner for a herringbone mixer. One end with a nut is easily screwed to the drain valve, and the second, the one that is usually screwed into the mixer, is screwed by hand into a hole drilled in a standard PVC pipe plug. The hole should be slightly smaller than the thread diameter on the hose. The metal shank of the hose easily cuts threads in plastic, and the rubber ring seals the connection when the hose is screwed in. In the same way, you can drain water from self-cleaning filters; all that remains is to occasionally open and close the taps for flushing. Tap 5 it does not have to be connected to the sewer, it is needed to let air into the system and almost nothing drips from it while draining water.

Reading time: 6 min

Connecting a boiler to a water supply to obtain hot water is widely used and not only where there is no centralized supply of hot water.

Today, more and more users living in multi-storey buildings are installing individual installations as a solution to the problem of poor quality or lack of domestic hot water. Modern water treatment equipment is reliable and has a simple design, which makes it easy to carry out installation work yourself.

Types of water heaters

You can choose a heater to suit every taste

Currently, two types of heaters are used, differing in the principle of heating water:

  1. Flow-through – high-speed, heating the environment as soon as the tap is turned on. The unit has no limitation on the volume of water supplied, but consumes a lot of power necessary to instantly heat the medium.
  2. Storage tanks are the most popular in the housing sector - they have a tank for storing and preparing hot water. It heats up gradually from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the selected mode. The source is electricity, gas or a secondary heat source in combi boilers. After reaching the operating temperature, it is maintained constant, according to the principle of operation of a storage tank.

Based on the type of energy, boilers are classified into gas and electric. The first ones are the most economical, but you cannot install them yourself, since they belong to high-risk objects and can only be connected and configured by specialists from the gas supply organization.

Electric water heaters are structurally designed in such a way that they can be installed independently by customers, subject to following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Algorithm for executing the installation diagram for heating hot water:

  1. Selection of equipment by power and volume.
  2. Selecting an installation location.
  3. Purchase of materials and installation tools.
  4. Selecting an installation scheme.
  5. Connecting the storage water heater with in-house utility networks: water and electricity.
  6. Pressure testing of the hot water circuit and commissioning.

Schematic principle of operation of the boiler

Electric boilers can be simplistically represented as the operation of an electric kettle; the more powerful its heating element, the faster it will boil. In order to select water heating equipment, a simple ratio of quantities is used: 15 liters of drinking water is heated by a 1.5 kW heating element to 60 C in 1 hour, and 100 liters of a 3 kW element in 4 hours.

Before connecting the boiler to the water supply, the power is selected and the technical data of the electrical network at the input in a private house or apartment is taken into account; usually the subscriber is allocated no more than 5–10 kW in a single-phase network. Installing a powerful heating element will limit the operation of other electrical appliances and knock out the circuit breaker. The power/volume ratios are taken as follows: 20 l - 1 kW, 50 l - 1.5 kW, 100 l -2 kW, 200 l up to 6 kW.

For a more accurate selection, take into account the hot water consumption per minute, for example, for washing dishes up to 4 l/min, and for a shower up to 8 l/min and the number of users of the hot water supply service.

After selecting the heater model, proceed to wiring the circuit:

  1. The housing is fixed to the wall, taking into account the size and weight of a full water boiler, which can exceed 200 kg. Therefore, the wall must only be load-bearing.
  2. The water heater is installed closer to the water collection points, taking into account the type of communications connection.
  3. When positioning the boiler, leave free space in front of it for maintenance and repair.

Materials and components for installation

Before starting installation work, you need to complete a set of preparatory procedures, which include:

  1. Studying the passport, manufacturer’s instructions and the diagram for connecting the boiler to the water supply.
  2. Connecting pipes and electrical cables to the device installation point.
  3. Purchase of materials and components. The boiler kit usually includes brackets or brackets intended for fastening; the remaining parts and fittings will need to be purchased independently.

List of materials for the standard scheme:

  • shut-off ball valves, diameter 15 mm, 3 units;
  • American, diameter 15 mm, 2 units;
  • tee, diameter 15 mm, 1 unit;
  • safety check valve, diameter 15 mm, 1 unit;
  • pipes with fittings, length according to the diagram;
  • 3-core cable VVG, copper, 2.5 mm2, length according to the diagram;
  • circuit breaker, two-pole, 20 A.

Installation of water pipes

To perform installation using polypropylene pipes, you will need a pipe cutter and a soldering device. Tees are purchased from the same material, together with connecting couplings with metal threads.

Pipe cutter

For open water supply systems, connecting the boiler to the water supply is not difficult; if the system is closed, then a certain amount of excavation work will be required to make room for inserting the pipeline being installed into the existing network.

Metal-plastic pipes are laid according to external patterns, so connecting them will not be difficult. Installation is carried out using fittings.

The retail network has a sufficient number of different designs for any connection scheme. The insertion is carried out using a tee connection, to which pipes or hoses are connected in accordance with the located networks and the installation location of the water heater.

For an underground water supply network you cannot do without steel pipelines; you can avoid welding work if you use the original tee-“ a vampire", which is made in the form of a clamp with a branch.

Tee type "Vampire"

It is pre-installed on a pipe that has been cleaned to metal and secured with screws. Density is ensured by rubber gaskets.

Next, a hole is made through the outlet in the supply pipeline by drilling, using a protective sleeve so as not to damage the internal threaded connection. A tap and a hose for supplying the medium to the heater are attached to the thread of the outlet pipe.

Electric boiler wiring diagram

Connecting the device to the water supply in the apartment begins with turning off the water at the subscriber input.

Connection algorithm:

  1. We connect the “American” to the pipe at the entrance to the boiler. This method is the most reliable, since it can dismantle the equipment in a couple of minutes.
  2. Mount a tee made of brass and a drain valve. The last element is not required for the storage boiler connection diagram, but many experts recommend it for the convenience of emptying the boiler during repair work or emergency situations.
  3. Assembling a security system.

Boiler and boiler wiring diagram

Set of security group elements:

  • shut-off valve;
  • water movement check valve;
  • safety valve against overpressure;
  • expansion tank to collect water that increases when heated.

Correct installation criteria:

  1. The shut-off valves are installed according to the “input-output” scheme so that the heater can be completely turned off during repairs or conservation.
  2. Check the compliance of the diameters of all elements of the circuit, as well as the acceptability of the power cable. Experts clarify that the diameters must create a standard speed for the movement of coolant through the pipes; a larger size with adapters for fittings is possible, but vice versa - not.
  3. The same rule exists for a cable line; a cable of a smaller cross-section cannot be used, otherwise you can get the effect of a “heating cable”, but a larger cross-section is not used either, due to the fact that it creates difficulties during installation. The best option here is full compliance with the load current; data can be taken from the data sheet for the unit.
  4. An electrical outlet is installed directly next to the tank; electric boilers are designed for power from a single-phase alternating current network of 220 V, 10 A.

System protection

Unfortunately, the quality of tap water in most houses is far from the standard, which cannot but affect the operation of the electric boiler, so knowledgeable people correctly advise installing filters for purifying water from suspended solids and hardness at the entrance to the house, which will have a beneficial effect not only on the operation of the equipment , but also on the health of residents.

Water must be prepared

The same applies to the pressure reducer, which protects the system from surges in the system; it is also recommended to install it at the entrance to the house.

A safety valve is installed in the system to protect equipment from high pressure that occurs during water heating. It is known that at 80 C the volume increases by 3%, for 100 liters of volume, there are 3 extra liters that need to be dumped somewhere, otherwise the boiler will burst.

This is what the safety valve does; installing it according to the diagram is mandatory. It consists of two functional parts - a check valve and a blast valve. The first prevents water from escaping into the internal water supply system; the second part, made in the form of a spring-loaded plug, works for it, which begins to discharge excess water at a pressure of more than 6 kg.

After the boiler is installed and the circuit is connected, it is filled with water and the leaks are checked, this process is called pressure testing, in this case it is performed by the working pressure of the water supply networks, but this is enough to make sure that all the connecting elements are assembled firmly and there are no leaks.

The procedure for filling the system with water:

  1. Open a hot tap, for example in a kitchen, to remove air from the container and the installed piping system.
  2. Open the tap for tap water supply.
  3. While filling the container, carefully inspect all connections for leaks or even the appearance of small drops of water. All of them are eliminated before the tank is filled with water.
  4. The process of removing air from the system will be completed when water starts coming out of the hot tap, the boiler is full, so the water is turned off.
  5. After completion of the pressure testing and elimination of all leaks, the device is connected to the electrical network and operation begins.

Common installation mistakes

The manufacturer, referring to SNIP standards, requires during installation to insulate cold water/hot water supply pipes with a layer of 20 mm and a thermal conductivity of 0.030 W/m2. At the same time, both the pipe and all components are insulated.

Sometimes this requirement is neglected, as a result of which, when the boiler reaches full capacity, heat losses appear, so such a device will heat water slowly.

They suffer without insulation and a cold water network, being a place where condensation accumulates en masse, creating unsanitary conditions. Another common mistake is installation without an expansion tank, especially for tanks with a volume of 200 liters or more.

List of other violations:

  1. The electrical cable is routed in high temperature areas or on sharp metal surfaces.
  2. The procedure for connecting to the water supply system specified in the diagram by the manufacturer has been violated.
  3. The vertical/horizontal level of the installation is broken.
  4. There is no ground loop for the heater.
  5. The power supply parameters do not meet the requirements of the manufacturer specified in the passport data.

Before starting the device, you must carefully inspect the circuit; any, even the smallest mistake in the installation can become fatal during its operation, so every self-respecting owner should know how to connect the boiler correctly.

If you decide to learn how to connect a storage water heater with your own hands, you need to study all the installation nuances in advance, since any electrical device requires compliance with safety precautions.

Standard plumbing scheme in an apartment

To begin with, you should understand one important nuance: connecting any storage water heater to a water supply means integrating it into the water supply system. The goal of the process is to create a source of hot water in the system with your own hands. It is desirable, of course, that the installation and repairs in the apartment coincide with each other, however, modern technologies make it possible to install the boiler as carefully as possible. In this case, the electric water heater will have to provide hot water to all points in the apartment.

Speaking directly about the standard water supply system, we should highlight the main components - the toilet, to which only cold water is installed, followed by a washbasin, where a riser with hot and cold water is connected, then a bathtub or shower, and then a kitchen sink, which often has a separate supply Actually, this is a standard scheme for connecting a storage water heater; it is necessary to build a boiler into it, which allows heating the contents of the pipes in the apartment. There are, of course, various branching options, which you can watch in a video on the Internet.

If we consider a water supply diagram with a built-in heater, then it must be installed in such a way that it provides hot water to all distribution points except the toilet.

Features of creating a diagram

The main components of the circuit, as can be seen in any video, are special taps and a check valve. A prerequisite for the smooth operation of the circuit, which does not require quick repairs, is the presence of a valve. It prevents hot water from draining through the pipe from cold. Here you should understand the main principle of operation of a water heater, the installation of which can be done with your own hands. Cold water exerts pressure on the hot water tank, and by design, hot water is dissipated from above, and cold water from below.

In order to cut off the storage device from the water supply, two taps work in pairs. Accordingly, they are turned on only during operation of the device, and their installation is necessary. In addition, such taps are important when repairs to the unit are planned and it needs to be removed.

Another important point, without which it is impossible to connect a storage water heater, is the presence of a third tap, which turns off only the hot water supply. Its installation can also be done by yourself. A prerequisite is to cover it while the drive is running. Otherwise, hot water will be able to escape into the general hot water supply system.

Installation stages

The main steps that should be carried out when installing a hot water storage tank with your own hands:

  • Fixing the device on a load-bearing wall. In principle, if the apartment has been well renovated, you can mount it on a simple wall.
  • A system supplying cold water should then be connected to the unit’s nozzle, as you can find out in the video. Connection occurs via flexible hoses or pipes.
  • Connection to power source. The most important thing here is safety, especially if you carry out the procedure yourself. It is also worth noting that for the equipment to operate, you will need a network with a current of at least 6-8 kW. For various reasons, it is advisable to install the product above the head.

If your apartment is undergoing renovations, you can entrust the installation of the unit to professionals. Otherwise, if you are planning to perform this procedure yourself, you can use the tips below:

  • If the renovation in the apartment was carried out a long time ago, before installation you should invite a specialist who will diagnose the wiring in the apartment.
  • The wall serving as the installation site for the boiler must withstand a load twice the weight of the device.
  • Access to the device must be free in case repairs are required.
  • A sufficient analysis of the pipeline in the home is of no small importance. More precisely, the quality of pipes and risers, as well as the availability of outlets for directly connecting the unit, installing taps and other necessary manipulations. If the condition of the risers leaves much to be desired, it is necessary to first replace them and carry out repairs, otherwise the adequate operation of the water heater may be in question.

Installing a storage water heater in your own apartment is possible with your own hands. The most important thing here is compliance with safety precautions, as well as compliance with all installation rules.

If you need to install a boiler purchased in a store yourself, then for installation work you should prepare materials, and also carefully study the instructions for this electrical device.

Self-installation of an electric boiler does not present any difficulties, but only for those people who know how to handle tools and have experience in electrical installation work on a 220 V network.

Getting ready to connect

The best option for installing a boiler is in the bathroom. If, due to limited free space, it is not possible to install a boiler in this place, then you should choose a place in the kitchen or utility room. When choosing an installation location, you should take care of the possibility of supplying a 220 V electrical network and cold water supply.

The boiler is installed at a considerable distance from the floor. In most models, communications are connected from below, so the device should be placed at a height of at least 50 cm. If the boiler is connected in the bathroom, then it should be placed at a distance of at least 1 meter from the bathtub and sink.

This eliminates the possibility of water getting on the surface of the device and reduces the possibility of electric shock in the event of a malfunction of the device.

It is worth considering that a boiler filled with water has a significant mass and must be securely fastened. Water heaters are usually installed on the wall. To correctly position the mounting holes, you can use a very simple marking method. You need to prepare a sheet of cardboard and a marker.

Measurements are carried out in the following order:

To install the boiler correctly, you will need to install a separate outlet and supply cold water to the device.

To do this you will need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  1. Hammer or impact drill.
  2. Pliers.
  3. Hammer.
  4. Socket.
  5. Anchor bolts.
  6. An electric cable with a core diameter of at least 3 mm.
  7. Spanners.
  8. Screwdriver.
  9. Construction gypsum.
  10. Automatic switch 20 A.
  11. Chisel.

Connection rules

The device must be installed in such a way that it can be accessed from all sides for maintenance work.

First of all, you need to take care of the electrical safety of using this device: connect a grounding wire to the body of the electric water heater.

To install the water heater, you must use only the factory fasteners that are included with the electrical device.

The device must be installed in such a way that it can be accessed from all sides for technical work. The distance from the side wall to the boiler is set to at least 200 mm.

If the water heater receives water from an individual source, such as a well or borehole, then a coarse water filter must be installed in the water intake system.

The boiler is installed only on a hard vertical surface; it is prohibited to install the device on various partitions made of wood and plasterboard.

It is mandatory to install shut-off elements in the form of ball valves to the cold water supply line and the heated liquid outlet line. This arrangement of taps greatly simplifies repair work that can be carried out during operation of the water heater.

When connecting the boiler to the water supply, a non-return valve must be installed. This device will prevent the formation of excess liquid pressure in the water heater, even in the event of a failure of the automatic relay that controls the activation of water heating at a given temperature.

An elastic tube must be connected to the return valve, which is used to relieve excess pressure into the sewer.

In order to eliminate the possibility of leaks during operation of the device, it is necessary to use rubber or silicone gaskets.

When installing a water heater in a bathroom, its installation should be no closer than 1 meter from the bathtub or sink.

The socket should be placed in the bathroom in such a way as to eliminate the possibility of water getting into it.

Network connection

After the boiler is correctly installed and connected to the water supply system, it must be connected to the electrical network. If the device was installed near an electrical outlet, simply insert the plug into the outlet and press the device's power button.

You should first check for the presence of grounding on the contacts of the socket. If connected to the mains, the presence of a properly functioning ground in this outlet can be checked using an insulated copper wire. One end of the wire is connected to the phase of the electrical outlet, and the other end is connected to the side grounding. If there is a working ground line, the electricity should automatically turn off.

If there is no outlet in the immediate vicinity, then one should be installed. To do this, using a hammer drill and a special crown-shaped attachment for socket boxes, a recess is made in the wall. The size of the recess should be equal to the depth of the socket installed in the bathroom wall.

If, after working with a hammer drill, a layer of material remains in the inner part of the circle, it should be removed using a chisel and hammer. From the mounting hole of the socket to the nearest one, it is necessary to make a groove 30 - 40 mm deep into which the electrical cable will be installed. It is prohibited to install distribution boxes in the bathroom.

The best option would be to route a separate circuit from the electrical panel. If there is grounding of the electrical panel body, the grounding conductor should be secured to its body.

The socket is installed in the following sequence:

  1. The socket box is installed in a hole in the wall and securely fixed with gypsum mortar. The socket box should not extend beyond the wall.
  2. A three-core copper cable is inserted through the side hole of the socket box. The cable is secured to special plastic brackets placed in a groove along the entire length of the cable.
  3. The socket that will be used in the bathroom must have a protection class of at least IP44. It must be equipped with a cover that reliably protects the contacts from water.
  4. The decorative cover is removed from the socket, then the phase conductor and “0” wiring are connected to the terminals. The grounding conductor must be connected to the side terminal of the socket.
  5. After this, the inner part of the socket is installed in the socket box. To do this, you need to turn the fastening bolts clockwise evenly on both sides.
  6. Then the outer plastic part is installed, it is secured with a screw that is screwed into the middle of the socket.
  7. The wire is led through a groove and connected to a distribution box or electrical panel. The groove is sealed with prepared gypsum mortar or special putty.

We care about protection

In order to make the operation of the boiler as safe as possible, it is necessary to install an RCD. This device will turn off the power supply at the moment when a phase current leak occurs along the main connection line of the boiler.
The RCD is connected in the following sequence:

It is necessary to install the device as close as possible to the electric meter, then install, which will protect the circuit and turn off the voltage in the event of a short circuit.

Then the grounding, phase wire and “0” are connected to the RCD. At the output, the device is connected to wires coming from the electric meter. This provides reliable protection not only against fire in the event of a short circuit, but also protection against electric shock.

Checking work

It is strictly forbidden to connect the water heater to the network without water. After the device is installed and the water pipes are connected, the boiler must be completely filled with liquid. To make sure that the heater is completely filled, you need to open the hot water tap and wait until water flows out of the tap with an even pressure.

All places where pipes are connected to the boiler must be checked for possible leaks; if such places are found, then all threaded connections must be additionally tightened with a wrench.

Then the plug is inserted into the socket and the maximum water heating temperature is set on the control panel. After the water temperature reaches maximum values, it is necessary to inspect the pipe connections again.
If the water supply connection points are absolutely sealed, then the boiler can be used for its intended purpose.

  1. Don't skimp on cables when connecting a boiler, only high-quality copper wire can fully cope with the high load and constant connection of a powerful device to the network.
  2. To increase the safety of using the boiler, it is imperative to install an RCD together with circuit breakers.
  3. If you have no experience with tools and electric current, then you need to contact professionals who will connect the boiler to electricity in accordance with all the rules.

Refusal to use centralized hot water supply is the exception rather than the rule. There are several reasons for this:

  • You do not depend on the condition of the boiler room, pipelines, or repair schedules.
  • No subscription fee.
  • You don't have to wait for hot water to reach your tap (while the meter is spinning).

The cost of the water heater is not that high, and the energy consumption is also within reason. You don’t have to overpay for installation; installing a boiler yourself is a completely affordable operation for a home craftsman. There are also no problems with placement: the tank can be hung in any of the plumbing rooms.

Types of boilers that can be used in residential premises

It would seem that this is just a device for heating water. However, there are a huge number of designs that can be combined into several groups.

There are gas, liquid and solid fuel boilers. In our material we consider an electric water heater.

Boilers vary in heating method

Differences between boilers by heater type

Next, we will tell you how to properly install a boiler in various types of residential premises. Depending on the configuration of the facility and the climate zone, the water heater connection diagram differs significantly.

Installation of a water heater with storage

First of all, you need to choose the place where you will install the electrical appliance. There are several criteria, let’s rank them by importance:

  1. Availability of water pipes nearby. Installation of a storage water heater should not be complicated by the installation of long water supply systems.
  2. Operational safety depends on how correctly the electric water heater is connected to a 220 volt network. It is advisable to allocate a separate power line on an individual group machine.
  3. Possibility of inserting into an existing hot water supply system so that the heated water does not enter the general house system. This question does not apply to individual housing.
  4. The presence of a solid wall on which you can safely install the boiler yourself.

Most often, it is advisable to install a water heater in the bathroom. There is a water supply line, a hot pipe, and the main point of consumption. This may cause two problems:

Of course, if there is a permanent wall, this question does not arise. We drive anchors 120–150 mm long, and you can hang at least 300 kg.

Tees and valves to the boiler are inserted into the lines running from the risers to the consumer (faucet, mixer). There must be a second shut-off valve between the tie-in and the riser. The system works as follows: close the valve after the hot riser, open the hot water shut-off valve. We use a boiler; the heated water does not go into the general system.

If you need to use a centralized hot water supply, turn off the shut-off valves to the boiler, the taps from the riser are open.

Do-it-yourself instantaneous electric water heater installation

Heating devices without storage tank solve 2 main problems:

Installation of a country instantaneous water heater does not require complex connections into the system and the installation of several shut-off valves. You connect the mini boiler to electricity and connect the water supply to the input.

The main thing is to ensure sufficient water pressure. Flow-through boilers have a powerful heating system; if the flow is low, the water will boil inside, and the overheating protection will turn off the device.

How to connect a instantaneous water heater in an apartment? The scheme is similar to a storage boiler.

Again, the water pressure must be sufficient for trouble-free heating. With this scheme, installation and connection of a water heater with automatic switching control is required. That is, you opened the water - heating began. We closed the tap and the boiler turned off. The only problem with such flow generators is that at least a minimum heat exchanger capacity is required. After turning off the pressure, the water should cool down. This requires volume.

For instantaneous boilers, the electrical connection diagram must include grounding and an RCD. In fact, during operation you use water that is in direct contact with the heater. In the event of an electrical breakdown, the safety system must immediately de-energize the heater.

If you do not know how to install a boiler yourself, it is better to turn to professionals to install a flow-through heater. After installation you will receive a safety certificate.

Installation of an indirect heating boiler

Let’s leave out the brackets for hanging heat exchangers on the heating main; it’s still not 100% legal. Let's figure out why and how to connect an indirect heating boiler to the general system of individual housing. First of all, this is not just indirect heating. This is a system for replacing a heat source, depending on external conditions. As a rule, the boiler capacity is at least 100 liters, and there are two heat exchange circuits. They are connected to a traditional boiler (gas or any other), as well as a solar battery. Not the one that produces electric current, but the collector of solar heat.

As a result, when the boiler room is operating (for heating the room), or in bright sunshine, the water in the common boiler always heats up. That is, you receive heat conditionally free of charge. Moreover, if the sun effectively heats water even in cold weather (and modern batteries operate even at near zero temperatures), you can save on traditional water heating and use the boiler as a consumable container.

That is, the system “works” in reverse: through the first heat exchanger, the sun heats water in the tank, and the second coil can supply it to radiators or a “warm floor” system.

Bottom line

Before deciding which water heater to buy, study the conditions of use and choose the most economical option.
