Rock lived, Rock is alive, Rock will live, never losing its relevance and which always hopes for a place on the player of a true music fan. If it's not a problem to decide, they are on everyone's lips, and albums are sold in millions of copies from America to Japan, then with the Russian rock scene, not everything is so clear. Firstly, Russian rock is quite young, starting to develop actively only in the eighties of the last century. Secondly, in thirty years, not so many really cool bands have appeared that can be called legendary, there are more one-day groups that release a couple of hit albums that disappear from the big stage in a few years. Nevertheless, there are several dozen groups with cult status that have forever inscribed their name in gold letters in the hall of fame of Russian rock. Meet ten best Russian rock bands.

10. Zemfira

Zemfira is one of the most successful performers of the Russian music scene, who has become a living symbol of female rock. The singer loves to experiment, mixing classic rock with other musical styles and directions. All six studio albums of Zemfira were wildly popular, and hits occupied the top of the charts for months.

9. Aria

"Aria" is one of the few Russian heavy metal bands, which was able to achieve popular love. The team appeared back in 1982 as VIA "Singing Hearts", starting to experiment with various musical styles. As a result, they began to imitate Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Deep Purple and Iron Maiden and transformed into one of the best rock bands, whose tracks began to be dominated by long guitar rips, a piercing voice of a soloist with a bias in rock ballads.

8. Chaif

Chaif appeared back in 1985 in Sverdlovsk and has been delighting listeners for almost 30 years. A group of many hits forever inscribed in gold letters in the hall of fame of Russian rock with deep philosophical overtones, quite cheerful and energizing people. Chaif cannot be played simply as background music, but you need to listen to every word and feel the rhythm in order to "understand" the song.

7. Aquarium

"Aquarium" are real Russian-rock dinosaurs, appearing in the St. Petersburg underground in the early 70s. Until the mid-1980s, the group actually remained underground, often performing outdoors, at closed concerts or in basement rooms. The few festival performances usually ended in big scandals. The real recognition and popularity of the group comes in 1986 on the wave of perestroika, becoming a real legend. Although the composition of "Aquarium" has changed several times, Boris Grebenshchikov has always remained the permanent leader of the group. The songs of the group have become real classics, which other musicians are happy to quote and re-sing.

6. Agatha Christie

"Agatha Christie" appeared in the late 80s, in the wake of increasingly popular rock, literally in a few years became the favorites of the younger generation. The style of the band's performance changed from album to album, but surely it was coolly mixed guitars, synthesizer, drums, electronic basses and a little symphony. The lyrics of Agatha Christie's songs are rather dark in nature with deep overtones.

5. Time Machine

"Vremeni Machine" are real grandfathers of Russian rock on songs that several generations of people have grown up, actually forming the modern rock scene. The group was created by Andrey Makarevich with friends in 1969, remaining its permanent leader for more than 40 years. The group, like a sponge, absorbed many musical styles and directions, but in the songs of which rock motives always predominated.

4. Alice

Hard rock and heavy metal is what the rock group "Alice" is, which appeared back in 1983 in St. Petersburg. True, since the beginning of the 2000s, the frontman of the group, Konstantin Kinchev, has gone deeply into Orthodox themes and is increasingly taking part in political life.

3. Nautilus Pompilius

"Nautilus Pompilius" is another of the legends of Russian rock from the 80s. The group has always paid a lot of attention to socially significant topics, where each verse of the songs makes you think, get out of the shell of your closed world and pay attention to the problems of society. The group manages to organically combine rock and symphonic music.

2. DDT

"DDT" is a true Russian legend, at the helm of which for more than 30 years has been Yuri Shevchuk, who wrote most of the group's songs that have become hits. The team plays soft rock with blues and jazz motives. The group has always paid a lot of attention to socially and socially important topics, although there are several very successful ironic, love and philosophical singles.

1. Cinema

For fans of Russian rock "Kino" and Viktor Tsoi are practically synonyms, which became a real legend during his lifetime. For eight years, from a group of unknown amateurs, they turned into rock monsters, gathering stadiums of fans, each song of which became a real hit that you can listen to endlessly. "Kino" departed from the classic traditions of Russian rock of the 80s, actively starting to use drum machines, which added some pop songs to the songs.

Where did you play: Track, Nastya

Genres: Russian rock music

What is cool: Nastya Poleva is the first truly famous woman in Russian rock. Our first female rock star. It is doubly symbolic that this could appear only in Sverdlovsk, remote from the centers of civilization, where rock life flowed according to its own laws. By the will of fate, Nastya is also one of the founders of Sverdlovsk rock as such: in 1980 she became the vocalist of Trek - gloomy moralizers related to Kraftwerk and Black Sabbath, in 1985 she actively collaborated with the young Nautilus, which was gaining strength, and in 1987 she finally went into solo career. Her debut album Tatsu became the first famous female rock album in the country. This was facilitated by the new, soft and lyrical manner of Nastya's singing, and unusual, full of references to exotic countries, fashionable arrangements, and surrealistic texts. Nastya's career after this album (and the tragedy with another album, Bride stolen from the studio) can hardly be called triumphant, but even after moving to St. Petersburg, she retained both indisputable musical authority and the status of a living legend of Russian rock.

Quote: I was one hundred percent sure that Tatsu would pass. The desire to move mountains and do something to make everyone gasp, I have always had. And when this motivation appears, I become a meteor. I would have endured everything to get the final result.

Diana Arbenina

Photo -

Where did you play:Night snipers

What is cool: For almost 23 years of her life, Diana Arbenina has spent on the big stage. Behind him - hundreds of cities, two hundred songs, collections of poetry and prose, the autobiographical performance of Motofoso on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov, soundtracks to 16 films, the experience of a team mentor in the Voice of Ukraine project (and in 2015 on the Main Stage project) and a nomination for the Triumph Russian independent award for achievements in literature and art. In addition to all this, Diana successfully combines an active concert activity with the position of a mother of two beautiful babies Artyom and Marta.
;
Quote: To be a sniper means to have a bare, albeit nervous heart, to be receptive to human kindness. And as for love - do not defend yourself from it and wait, even if it takes your whole life.

Zemfira

Photo -

Where did you play: Zemfira, The Uchpochmack

Genres: Russian rock music

What is cool: At least the fact that she is Zemfira. I think it makes no sense to describe the influence that she had on all Russian music. Zemfira became one of the most commercially successful singers on our stage, not being a particularly public person, but simply doing her own thing. In November 2010, Afisha magazine included her first album in the top 50 Best Russian Albums of All Time. And more than once Zemfira was included in the rating of the most influential women in the country. But she, however, always did not care about such titles and regalia.

Quote: It is very difficult for me to please. I am dissatisfied with the musicians, dissatisfied with myself, very often, dissatisfied with the audience. Sometimes it seems to me that they could be more active. They cannot hurt me, criticize me more than I can myself. I know who I am, I am in my place. I know it, I am sure of it. And this is my greatest truth and strength. Confidence in who I am and what I am. And I will sing for a very long time.

Svetlana Surganova

Photo -

Where did you play: Something Else, Night Snipers, Surganova and Orchestra

Genres: rock, alternative rock, jazz rock, trip hop, art rock

What is cool:
In fact, by her first education, Svetlana Yakovlevna Surganova is a pediatrician (Svetlana has never worked in her profile), which does not prevent her from being a talented musician. The artist herself calls the style of the group VIP-Punk-Decadence (behind a complex abbreviation lies aesthetics, "hooliganism", energetic presentation, self-irony, texts based on classical poetry), but even this definition is not enough for their work. In addition to the above genres, we can safely say that Svetlana skillfully plays with Latin, ethnic motives, sometimes - electronic samples, and at the same time everything is one of the women without whom Russian rock is now unthinkable. Such an out-of-format collective called Surganova and the Orchestra has existed for almost 14 years, is dearly loved by fans, deservedly has one of the most generous fan clubs for surprises and gifts and actively travels with concerts in Russia and abroad, and rightfully bears the title, perhaps the most touring rock band in our country (you just have to look at the schedule of CIO performances).

The group celebrated its tenth anniversary (in 2013) with a large-scale concert not anywhere, but in the Kremlin Palace, and new album releases are accompanied by concerts in Crocus.

The deep lyrics of the St. Petersburg poetess can be disassembled into quotations for a very long time, but we will give one of them below.

Quote: In my work, like many others, I try to solve for myself the fundamental questions of being. I talk, I sing, I shout about it. It turns out a burning mixture of depressions and catharsis.

Linda

Photo -

Where did you play: Convoy, Bloody Faeries, Linda

Genres: trip hop, trip rock, new age, experimental music, ethno rock, folk rock, psychedelic rock, indie rock, art rock, alternative rock, grunge, post punk, gothic rock

What is cool:

She became one of the most mysterious singers of our rock scene. Svetlana Geyman was born in the small town of Kentau in Kazakhstan, then moved with her family to Togliatti, and at the age of 15 ended up in Moscow. Three years later, her creative work begins (Linda took her first steps in the folk art collective), and then she entered Gnesinka. She managed to work with many famous figures in the Russian music industry of those years, for example, with Vladimir Matetsky, Yuri Aizenshpis, Maxim Fadeev. An unusual musical style quickly helped the singer to become noticed, the albums went platinum (they sold more than 250 thousand copies), the Voron's album went platinum with a sales status of 1,250,000 copies, becoming the third in Russia. Numerous changes of images from album to album, constant experiments with sound and appearance, and finally - a successful collaboration with the Universal Music label, which brought her great concerts and performances at festivals and even performed as an opening act for Moby in 2005. Part musical career Linda is associated with Greece - it was from there that Stefanos Korkolis, a Greek singer and composer, with whom Linda later tied the knot, but divorced a couple of years later, came from. The singer continues to create, release new albums (her eighth studio album of 2013 LAY, @! Was even recognized as the best album of the year by MusicBox), and continues to create to this day. Well, who knows how many more musical experiments her talent will last.

Quote: The image is born at the moment when childbirth occurs, "childbirth-water", therefore the image is laid by the parents. Then in life you can search, try on yourself and feel with all your inner state that you are closer to you, where you are more comfortable and where there are those things with which you can grow further. IN kindergarten I wanted to become an astronaut, then I really liked fishing, I always thought that I would be a dolphin rescuer. Life was always unpredictable. Then I was very fond of the circus. Plus I was born in an ethnic place. I got my first musical burns at the age of four, when I heard the ethnic instruments of ordinary street musicians. Also my grandmother, who raised me, who gave me a lot in my life, was a very creative person, and she had a difficult fate. This all layered over the years and acquired a certain foundation that guided me. These are all components, and this is a very global issue.

Lusine Gevrkyan

Photo -

Where did you play: Sphere of Influence, Traktor Bowling, Louna

Genres: alternative metal, alternative rock, nu metal, punk rock

What is cool: Lou is considered one of the best alternative vocalists in our country, which has been repeatedly confirmed by fans and awards such as the Chartova Dozen. Lusine has recently successfully combined work in two projects (Tracktor Bowling and Louna) with the role of his wife (Lou is married to Vitaly Demidenko, bass player of Traktor and Louna) and a caring mother, while actively performing with her colleagues at many festivals where they are always welcome guests, working on electrical material and acoustic, charity and filming. Earlier, however, Lou still taught vocals, but with such a busy schedule, she had to give up. An economist by education. For his groups, he writes part of the material on his own - both the lyrics and the musical component of the songs. She is an endorser of Sennheiser microphones and in-ear monitoring systems, as well as a representative of Roland brand synthesizers in Russia (she is a pianist herself).

Quote: Guys, rock music ... it is truthful, it is honest, it is sometimes aggressive, it is often heavy, sometimes even heavy, energetic, but it is always against war, against weapons, against violence, against injustice, and praises love, honesty, kindness, equality and brotherhood.

Julia Kogan

Photo -

Where did you play: Leningrad, solo project

Genres: pop, pop rock, jazz

What is cool: The red-haired beast Julia Kogan quickly burst into the musical get-together in 2007 and became famous in one day. Still - the team of Sergei Shnurov never left anyone indifferent, and with the arrival of Yulia, the "second wind" of the group's popularity opened up. A beautiful figure, a cloud of red hair and songs, which consist mainly of mat (otherwise, Cord wrote them) did their job. For almost six years, Julia was the “face” and voice of Leningrad. In 2013, she left the group and took up a solo career. To date, the singer has released her debut album entitled "Fire Baba".

The image of a bitchy, liberated beauty attracted television people to her - for several seasons Julia became the host of the show #YaPrava on the Yu channel. Also, the singer recorded several arias for the TODD musical of the King and Jester group. You can hear it in the songs - Death Machine and Lovett's Confession.

Julia is an actress by training, she began to study classical vocals quite late - at the age of 16. Leningrad got into the group by chance - in the St. Petersburg musical get-together everyone knows each other. In life, Julia Kogan bears little resemblance to her stage image - calm and quiet, she is married, brings up her daughter Liza and plays as a hobby in the theater of the Entreprise. A. Mironova.

Quote: It is somewhat problematic to get away from the image that I had in the Leningrad group. This is something akin to actors who became popular thanks to one role. You have to pay for it, not the whole audience is ready to see something different in me. I can be touching and tender on stage, or I can be tough. And for this I don't need to swear obscene words into the microphone. I'm a little worried about the reaction of the audience. People are now in a kind of confusion: they do not know which Julia Kogan they are going to. They don't understand what to expect from me. But this is a kind of challenge, and it's curious. I want to reach such a level of perception of my solo image so that the lyrical songs in my performance are fully understandable to the audience who came to the concert.

Daria Nookie Stavrovich

Photo -

Where did you play: SLOT, Nuki

Genres: alternative rock, nu metal

What is cool: Daria Stavrovich, or Nookie, has been the female "voice" of the Slot group for many years. Dasha was born in the Arkhangelsk region, studied at the Nizhny Novgorod School of Music, and then in Moscow. From childhood, carried away by creativity, little Dasha at first gravitated to drawing, but then she was carried away by music. Having got, thanks to friends, at the age of 20 in the Slot group, she stayed there - today, together with Dasha, 7 albums have already been recorded, and it is difficult to imagine someone else in this group in Nuki's place. The singer also created her own solo project, Nuki, which has two releases on his account.

Quote: I got into the Slot by a fluke. We make contemporary music for young people and for everyone who is young at heart. With our creativity, we try to express our perception of the world, to show how everything is interconnected in it. We do not say: "Friend, look at me, do as I do ..." We say: "If you do this, it will be like this, and then you will figure it out yourself." My mom follows our TV shows. Sometimes he calls, scolds for the slang that I use in my speech. Parents know our work, but they don't always understand it. Probably because of the age barrier.

Zhanna Aguzarova

Photo -

Where did you play: Bravo

Genres: rock, pop rock, beat, glam rock, rockabilly

Aliases: Ivanna Anders, Ninthin Ninthis

What is cool: The name of Zhanna Aguzarova is always associated with shocking, space and a beautiful piercing voice. And of course, with the Bravo group. Despite the fact that Aguzarova has recently not been a very frequent guest in public, she still remains popular, and almost everyone knows the songs performed by her. In 1983 she joined the Bravo group (then still Postscript). In 1988, Aguzarova left the group, pursuing a solo career. From 1991 to 1996 she lived in America and very little is known about this period.
This is a woman without age and timeless, she is like an alien from outer space, we do not know one hundred percent exactly anything about her: even the date and place of birth are surrounded by mystery. And what can be said about a person who, having arrived in Moscow, lived for some time with a fake passport, and only because Zhanna did not have her own. Taking someone else's passport and correcting the name from “Ivan” to “Ivanna”, Zhanna Khasanovna pretended to be the daughter of diplomats, Ivanna (later - Yvonne) Anders, for which she later paid first with detention and then forced labor.

The singer made a real revolution on the music scene in her time: her outrageous style in clothes, fantastic outfits, eccentric hairstyles and hair color, as well as unpredictable behavior on stage and in interviews left their mark on the country's musical culture. In communication with the press, Jeanne often spoke about her connection with the Martians, now that her trace in the music is lost, fans believe that she flew home.

Quote: There is no old in art - there is existence
Happiness is everywhere, it is around us. They say it's good where we are not, so it is not true: it is good where we are

The concept of the best in relation to bands is rather relative. For fans, their favorite performers are unconditionally favorites, deserving exclusively the first places in the ratings. Nautilus Pompilius

Nautilus Pompilius Is another legendary Russian rock band, whose work began in the 1980s. The leader of "Nautilus Pompilius" is Vyacheslav Butusov, a cult figure of Russian rock. The end of the 1980s was the peak of the popularity of the Nautilus. But frequent tours and line-up changes had a negative impact on creativity and, tired of constant problems, Butusov in 1997 made a difficult decision for him - to disband the group.
