Secrets of the right sticking

Before proceeding to the main stage of your repair - - you need to carefully prepare. Purchase all the materials in advance, plan on which wall the composition of these materials will be located on, and also check out the photo of the stone wallpaper in order to think through all the subtleties of such a design.

The main material in the process of such decoration will be the stone wallpaper itself. Based on the layout, area and style of the room, consider what shades and sizes of stone will suit your walls.

Remember! It is not at all necessary to select stones of the same shape and size: in some interiors, disproportionate shapes and non-standard improvisations will look much more interesting.

If desired, after gluing, it will be possible to correct the shape of the created composition: for this you will need a hacksaw or a clerical knife (depending on the thickness of the finishing materials). Keep in mind that these types of materials should always be taken in reserve, so calculate the required area of wallpaper in advance - and take 15% more.

In addition to the wallpaper itself, you will need: a pencil and paper - to create a sketch, a roller, a spatula, a brush, a brush, a primer - to prepare the walls, a tape measure, a level, glue and a hacksaw - to fix the wallpaper and correct their shape.

The first step in the finishing process is to plan your wall design. On paper, draw a diagram of the future composition, observing the features of the intended shape and shades. So you can determine in advance how harmoniously the stone looks in your interior.

In order not to encounter difficulties in the process of gluing, try repeating the drawn shape by placing stone wallpaper on the floor. With a preliminary combination of fragments of such material, you can detect marriage and inconsistency in shades.

Once the design is planned, you can proceed to. Excess materials are cleaned from the surface, dirt is removed - and then the walls are left to dry completely. After that, the surface is leveled, primed and treated with glue.

Since sticking stone wallpaper with your own hands may involve the use whole rolls or individual stone tiles, read the instructions for gluing them to the surface. It is advisable to apply glue not only on the walls, but also on the inside of the material - and then, starting from the upper side of the wall, start gluing.

Advice: for gluing stone wallpaper, it is advisable to use mineral or polymer-based glue. Suitable glue for tiles, liquid nails or special silicone solutions.

There are two main ways to carry out gluing: with and without seams. In the first version of the finish, the tiles are placed at a small distance from each other. This finish is suitable for those who use stone wallpaper solely for decorative purposes and are not afraid of moisture getting onto the very surface of the walls. Seamless gluing involves tight joining of materials.

Stone materials can be placed in any form: observe a horizontal or vertical shape, alternate or glue in any order. But, since such materials have a specific shape, Be sure to use a spirit level to ensure even adhesion.. In the corner areas of the walls, use a knife to give the stones the required shape, as well as to correctly connect them with adjacent materials.

When firmly pressing the stone to the wall surface, ensure a slight protrusion of glue on the joint surface: this way you can additionally seal the seams and protect your walls.

Excessive mortar or adhesive can be easily cleaned with a rag, but do not allow it to come into contact with the exterior of the masonry.

After drying such a composition, it is necessary to rusticate the seams: so you can ensure a neat and aesthetic appearance of your walls. This can be done with a small wooden spatula: run it along the seam filled with adhesive mixture - and level it to the required level.

If necessary, the joints are additionally processed with mastic mixtures. To do this, use a special small bag filled with the necessary substances: with the gradual extrusion of the mastic, the hollow seams between the tiles will be filled to the required level. When your wall is completely dry of adhesive and mastic, you can remove excess residue with a dry brush or hard cloth.

Thanks to the possibility of creating overflows between shades of stone, recoloring such wallpapers, as well as combining with other materials (different wallpapers, including), you can maintain a fresh and stylish design at any time.

The stone looks original even in combination with ordinary wallpaper, so to create an exclusive interior you do not have to spend money on expensive materials for finishing the rest of the walls in the room.

Such wallpapers will undoubtedly become the main advantage of your room, having won your trust and interest.

Since it will take a little time to stick, very soon you will relax and enjoy the new stylish walls. Watch the video of laying stone wallpaper - and find out the details of such an original finish.

Quite recently, an innovative material for decorative finishing of both facades and walls, as well as individual interior elements, even lamps, went on sale. It is a natural stone, but flexible, which can take any shape. In the ancient canyons and beds of rivers that dried up a long time ago, nature has been creating a natural unique material for 1000 years - sandstone. Modern development has made it possible to turn its layers into a thin, flexible and strong finishing material. Ceilings, floors and surfaces, fireplaces, stoves and columns, stairs, grottoes and arches - all this, with the help of your hands and imagination, can be dressed in stone, natural, environmentally friendly and unique in terms of aesthetic possibilities in decoration.

FLEXIBLE STONE...?!

To understand what a wall finished with "flexible stone" looks like, one must imagine a huge, layered block of quartz sandstone with a completely unique pattern, color shades and structure. It is characterized by overflows of gray, pink, burgundy and warm golden yellow colors (photo 1,2,3). At the same time, it is presented in the form of sheets, the flexibility of which is clearly demonstrated by photo 4. But how does this lump turn into a compact roll of material or separate, hand-bent sheets for finishing walls, floors, building facades?

It turns out that sandstone is impregnated with a special acrylic compound, after which, after hardening, plates 1.0-4.0 mm thick are cut from the workpiece and securely glued onto a flexible polymer or woven base. In principle, this is a peculiar, surprisingly flexible wallpaper for decoration. You can work with this material without even having special qualifications. As for the technical characteristics, it is a light (3-4 kg/m2), refractory (up to +650°C), elastic material. It is sold in rolled sheets measuring 2.7 x 1.2 m or smaller sheets (0.6 x 0.3 m) packed and cut to order. The material is also interesting because the sheets are translucent. This makes it possible to use a "flexible stone" with illumination for lighting design solutions for interiors (photo 5). The manufacturer guarantees the preservation of material properties for 35 years.

This unusual "stone" based on sandstone quickly became a favorite among the new, mostly artificial materials. Some finishing options with its use are shown in photos 6,7,8. One can argue, but there is hardly another one that is just as acceptable for both interior and exterior wall decoration, looking literally out of time and outside of any standard style framework and attractive by the naturalness of the material.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS

It is important that even without being a specialist, you can use the “flexible stone” to finish the house with your own hands, mounting it on any surface. Unlike many other materials, it is very simple and easy to use. All you need:

- "flexible stone" in a roll or ready-made tiles;

Tools (pencil, ruler, square, brush, glue roller, construction knife, pressure roller, spatulas and building hair dryer);

White or gray ceramic tile adhesive for indoor or outdoor use;

Composition for protective coating (lacquer for natural stone).

PREPARATION FOR WORK

The sheets are placed on the floor in such a way that the direction of the pattern on them coincides. The walls will look better if the "flexible stone" is properly selected, forming an overall pattern.

Acting without a premeditated plan, having laid one canvas, then you have to look for another - suitable. This can stretch the work for a long time. That is why it is advisable to first make a complete alignment, and then transfer “stone by stone” to the wall. If it is necessary to tightly join the edges, avoiding cracks, then the canvases are overlapped by 2-3 cm, and then both pieces are cut along the ruler at the same time with a mounting knife, this is how linoleum is usually adjusted (photo 9). Do not throw away the scraps, they will still come in handy.

INSTALLATION OF "FLEXIBLE STONE" CUT IN TILES

Since the laying technology is simple and does not require complex operations, to familiarize yourself with it, it is enough to demonstrate a number of photographs with comments.

Proceed as follows:
First, the surface on which the cladding will be laid is thoroughly cleaned of dirt and moisture. If the base has irregularities, then it must first be leveled with special mixtures and primed. If necessary, mark the boundaries of laying tiles (photo 10).

With a notched trowel, glue is applied to the surface of the tile and to the wall (or other surface). If large tiles are used, then you can apply the adhesive with an even spatula, and then make the grooves - jagged (photo 11).

Laying is carried out from the upper corner, since it is better to cut off the excess part of the tile on the less noticeable lower part of the wall. They go around the corners, preheating the material with a hairdryer along the fold line (photo 12).

Having attached the tile to the wall on the glue, it is pressed tightly (photo 13). Then the subsequent rows are laid and the entire surface is rolled with a roller (photo 14).

Due to the insignificant thickness of the "flexible stone" (most often it is somewhere around 1.5-2.0 mm), additional grouting is not required. Jointing is carried out immediately after gluing the tiles to the width of the seam using a wet brush moistened with water. Then the entire coated surface is allowed to dry.

If cracks form during bending at the corner, then they are rubbed with pieces of scrap material. A colorless primer for porous surfaces is applied to the crack with a brush (photo 15). Then they take a small piece of material and rub it into the crack (crease) with light, gentle movements (photo 16).

After the glue dries, the surface of the “flexible stone” is covered with a special waterproof compound that protects the finishing material from moisture and various aggressive environmental influences. The composition is applied with a roller or brush (photo 17).

WALLPAPER WITHOUT SEAM

The option of laying a “flexible stone” with “sewn” joints looks more impressive. For this method, you will need a building hair dryer, which heats up the edges of the fragments of the “flexible stone” finish. To decorate columns, arches and any other surfaces that need to go around, the material also needs to be heated.

The first sheet is laid on a surface covered with glue and rolled with a dry roller, thereby removing air from under the finishing material. The next canvas is docked exactly along the edge, and so on. It is necessary to try to make the seam between the canvases as less noticeable as possible. In this case, you can use a wooden rail, passing which along the joint, bring the edges of the canvases closer to each other. Do not use metal tools for this purpose, they may damage the smooth surface.

If glue comes out between the wallpaper, then after drying it is simply removed with a knife.

It is possible that after all the efforts between the canvases there will be a gap, then you need to use a hairdryer. Heat the canvases in the place of the formed gap and pressing with a wooden lath, connect them together. After that, rub this place with a piece of wallpaper strictly in the direction of the texture of the picture.

Some general advice may also be helpful.
1. Flexible stone tiles can be cut from the back side with an ordinary construction knife.
2. For a better fit of corners, recesses and other complex surfaces, the fabric is heated with a hair dryer before and during installation.
3. The appearance of the finish can be improved if a metal corner is passed along the heated joints of the tiles, while it is permissible to make a small “chamfer” by pressing on the joint. This will give the wall a texture similar to a sawn sandstone facade wall.
4. All external coatings of the finishing surface are applied from the bottom up, trying to avoid streaks.

So, the finishing is completed, the skills of working with the “flexible stone” inside the room have been obtained, and this is just the beginning. You can think about more - finishing the facade of the cottage (photo 18.19).

Based on materials _https://www.master-sam.ru

“Like behind a stone wall” - everyone knows this expression. How about there? Certainly cozy and quiet. The use of stone in the interior is connected precisely with the feeling of calmness and reliability that it gives to it.

In addition, the stone is beautiful, elegant and diverse. Finishing with a stone or "under the stone" is able to satisfy the most demanding taste and make any home unique.

Peculiarities

It is quite difficult to use natural stone in modern apartments. This is a heavy, bulky material: 1 square meter of natural stone weighs from 15 to 40 kilograms. In addition, finishing with natural stone is not a cheap pleasure.

On the market of finishing materials, we will find stone imitation in the form of tiles and the so-called stone wallpaper or flexible wallpaper. Stone-like tiles are made in various sizes and shapes and completely repeat the color, texture and curves of natural stone. Gypsum tiles are made, the weight of 1 square meter does not exceed 10 kg.

Working with tiles requires certain skills, but almost anyone can stick wallpaper. That is why our article is devoted to this modern, practical and beautiful material - wallpaper under the stone.

What are these wallpapers and why are they unique? This finishing material, made on the basis of sandstone, stone chips or gypsum, has gained immense popularity among designers over the past three years.

Stone wallpaper is a durable and flexible fabric with a length of 0.5 to 3 meters and a width of 30 cm to 1 meter. The weight of 1 square meter is not more than 1.3 kg. The textile base provides ease of pasting and reliable fastening of wallpaper on the walls.

You can roll wallpaper under a stone in the same way as ordinary ones - into a roll.

Such wallpapers can serve as a spectacular replacement for natural stone in decoration. They will give the interior originality, a special charm and comfort. The possibilities of modern technologies are wide - today it is possible to imitate a stone with such accuracy that at first glance it will not work to distinguish the finishing material from the natural one.

You can only do this by weight and thickness - the imitation is much lighter and thinner. Most finishing materials "under the stone" are strong and durable. When you touch the stone wallpaper, you will not feel cold - to the touch it is a pleasant, "warm" material, reminiscent of textiles.

There is another important feature of flexible stone wallpaper made of sandstone and stone chips - this is light transmission.

If gypsum wallpaper does not “respond” to light rays and even absorb light, then sandstone and stone chips play with all shades in both artificial and natural light. If backlights are used in the interior, then such wallpapers will also look very advantageous.

Stone wallpaper is very decorative, therefore, before proceeding with the repair and pasting, it is necessary to think over the decoration of the walls and prepare in advance- get acquainted with photographs, recommendations, think over compositional solutions.

Do not be afraid to experiment - in most cases the composition can be corrected even after pasting, and also remember that it is always better to buy a little more (10-15 percent) of materials of this type than you need.

If you're hanging wallpaper yourself, you'll need tools such as a roller, primer, brush, tape measure, level, glue, and a hacksaw. Before sticking the composition on the wall, repeat it on the floor, so you will see all the important little things like inconsistencies in seams or unsuccessful color transitions.

For stone wallpaper is most often used mineral glue. It's okay if, when spreading, you take a little more glue, and it protrudes slightly along the edges of the element, you can remove the excess with a clerical knife. If the decor suggests the presence of seams, be sure to rusticate or “trowel” the seams after the stone wallpaper has dried.

If you are alternating stone materials or pairing them with other materials, be sure to use a level.

Kinds

Today on the market of finishing and building materials there are wallpapers, imitating the most diverse texture or relief:

  • Textured brick, suitable for loft or modern interiors.
  • Textured with geometric patterns or traditional ornaments, creating an atmosphere of classic restraint.

  • Embossed under the stone, represented by a wide variety of options that can be successfully used in almost any interior. They are used both for decorating large spaces and for separate zones.

  • With imitation plaster for classic interiors.
  • Adhesive wallpaper. Modern adhesive wallpapers are high-quality and beautiful finishing materials that have a different texture and texture. Today in stores we can find adhesive wallpaper made of cork wood or coated with the smallest quartz - eco-friendly and spectacular, there is a large selection of adhesive wallpaper that imitates stone and brickwork. The undoubted advantage of this material is their use for finishing and updating furniture, as well as a very affordable price.

Combination options

Stone wallpapers are wonderfully combined with a variety of materials:

  • Furniture made of wood or metal, gratings and fireplace decorations, decorative interior items made of glass or wood - all this will look completely special if stone finishes are used in the design.
  • Textured wallpaper under the stone can emphasize the aesthetics and elegance of the room, especially if they are combined with conventional coatings or plaster. So, imitation brickwork can decorate the entire wall, but it will also look great as a decoration for a decorative fireplace or arch.

  • Brick wallpaper looks great in the kitchen and can replace a tile backsplash, as well as separate the dining area from the cooking area.
  • Even if ordinary wallpaper with a pattern is pasted in your bedroom, this is not at all a reason to refuse stone inserts - they can highlight a separate area (ledges and niches), decorate the bedside space. An excellent option for combining stone-like gypsum wallpaper and plastered walls is to decorate doorways with them, this will give your home a special flavor.

Remember that the richer the shades of the wallpaper and the brighter the texture is (for example, an imitation of a rocky wall), the more carefully you need to be careful when creating a design with these coatings. Dark shades and pronounced texture can visually reduce the room or give it a gloomy look.

Use wallpaper with a rocky or other well-defined texture, along with light-colored wallpaper or light-colored stucco, as an accent that gives originality.

Advantages and disadvantages

Flexible wallpapers are not only durable and strong, but also have heat-insulating and sound-proofing properties. They are fireproof(gypsum and sandstone are not combustible materials) and eco-friendly.

The plasticity of gypsum allows you to give the surface of the wallpaper a variety of textures, and such shortcomings as brittleness and moisture absorption have been successfully eliminated by modern technologies: polymer mixtures and cement are added to gypsum, which provide moisture resistance, wear resistance, heat resistance, and durability. This finish will serve you for decades.

The surface of the wallpaper imitates various stones - granite, sandstone, marble. There are wallpapers "under the brick", "rocks", "semi-precious finishing stone". An important advantage of stone wallpaper is that they can be used in the decoration of niches, fireplaces, arches.

The color of stone wallpaper is so diverse that you can easily choose the right shade among a wide palette. Most stone wallpapers are made in the natural colors of the stone they imitate. Stone wallpapers have a special color fastness to ultraviolet, so you can safely use them even where direct sunlight falls.

However, if you want to paint the walls yourself in some original color, then this is also possible - there is a white stone wallpaper (gypsum-based) on sale. Most often, these are materials that imitate various types of brickwork. They can be painted and repainted, the paint keeps well on them. This feature will allow you to change and update the interior when necessary.

Some people refuse to use stone wallpaper, as they consider it an expensive pleasure. This is wrong! The combination of price and quality is an important plus when deciding on the use of stone wallpaper in the interior, because the cost of stone wallpaper is not higher than the price of the simplest ceramic tile.

In addition, the small weight of stone wallpaper will allow you to paste them yourself, without the cost of specialist services.

Design Ideas

There are many design ideas using materials that mimic brick or masonry. Stone wallpaper is a unique material that gives space for creativity and allows you to emphasize any interior style. thanks to its natural beauty and the possibility of combination:

  • You do not have the opportunity to equip a real fireplace or a niche in the room? In this case, you can lay out cut wallpaper in the form of bricks or tiles, creating a thematic drawing: this way you can bring your ideas to life and create a completely unique design.

  • A protective apron with imitation of stone or brick looks great, so necessary in the kitchen, this idea is an undoubted alternative to traditional tiles. You can also use brick or spray wallpaper for all the walls in the kitchen, especially if your kitchen design is designed in a loft style.
  • Where in the apartment is the simplest and most concise interior? Perhaps this is a corridor or hall leading to the main housing. Most often, there are no windows in the corridors, so this room sometimes seems dark and narrow. For the design of such spaces, light stone plain wallpaper coated with sandstone or quartz chips is suitable, and tiles with imitation stone can be glued around the doors. Thanks to such bold decisions, even a laconic interior will turn into a modern and stylish one.

  • Recently fashionable eco-style, focusing on natural materials and simple harmonious lines, will be emphasized by wallpaper with the addition of slate - natural beauty and soft color transitions will be appropriate in bedrooms and living rooms.
  • Natural marble or granite finish looks good in the kitchen and bathroom. In large spaces, the marble pattern is used with great care so as not to create a feeling of a "cold" space.

Stone wallpapers are suitable for both modern interiors and interiors with antique furniture and antiques.

Using very embossed and multi-colored finishing materials, combined with antique furniture and numerous knick-knacks, we risk turning the room into the cave of the mountain king. To prevent this from happening, you must remember that the more complex and refined your furniture, the simpler and more concise the walls should be.

In the 21st century, masonry began to be used quite often in wall decoration, as it is beautiful, original and durable. Stones began to be in great demand in Soviet times, and since that time their production has improved significantly. Masonry is significantly different from wallpaper under stones, since the imitation of natural material is 100 percent consistent in appearance and even weight with real natural resources, the only difference is that they are created artificially.

Artificial stone can be laid out on the wall in various forms, for example, in the form of geometric shapes and other images. With high-quality installation, it can stay on the surface for years and at the same time not deform or deteriorate.

Modern nano-technologies have made it possible to create an excellent material that can decorate any room and make it more lively and unusual. Why choose the material imitating stone? Natural products cannot be glued to a plasterboard base. Imitation weighs much less, and you can stick it with your own hands without much difficulty.

According to the information from the manufacturer, each buyer of artificial stone can carry out high-quality laying of material on drywall, installed in accordance with building codes and regulations.

Is it possible to glue a decorative stone on the wallpaper

Wall decoration with decorative stone is prohibited if there is wallpaper on it. Initially, you will need to get rid of the wallpaper with a construction knife to the last layer.

If the paper does not lag behind well, you will need to use a special tool to remove the old coating or use the old method of wetting the walls.

If potholes, holes and irregularities are formed during the sanding of the wall, then plastering, grouting and impregnation with a primer are carried out. Each layer must be thoroughly dried, and only after that you can start lining.

Wallpaper in the form of a stone: what to look for

If you plan to buy wallpaper in the form of a stone, then you should first make sure that the combination with the room, as well as the background, is ideal. In other words, to eliminate disharmony and the lack of maintaining comfort and an attractive appearance.

The peculiarity of wallpaper under the stone is that they have:

  • More dense texture;
  • bulges;
  • seams;
  • Irregularities.

Wallpaper imitating stone: noble prints

Many are accustomed to the fact that the wallpaper should be with a pattern, for example, so that such a print as a flower, geometric shapes, lines and other images is depicted there. Over time, absolutely everything is improved, including ideas about beauty. Stylish and contemporary decor in the form of bare brick or stonework is the perfect way to decorate any room, regardless of its purpose.

A feature of materials imitating brick and masonry is that you can use various products for decoration.

Namely:

  • plastic panels;
  • Wallpaper;
  • artificial masonry;
  • Decorative plaster.

Designers manage to carry out the combination so qualitatively that they get an unimaginably original interior.

Now there is a huge amount of materials that can imitate natural finishes and this greatly simplifies the process of repair and finishing work, but do not forget about the precautions and the basis on which they will fit.

Flexible stone wallpaper

At the time when paper-based wallpapers began to appear, this was considered a whole revolution in design. Previously, a variety of prints were popular, even of the simplest type, but over the years, such images and decorations of paper trim began to recede into the past.

Now interior designers believe that no one can be surprised with paper wallpaper, and therefore they began to produce new materials. Among these, flexible stone or, in other words, wallpaper made of flexible stone, turned out to be popular. This innovation was immediately appreciated by lovers of creativity and originality.

A lot of experimentation preceded this new type of finish, and it was a success.

Stone wallpapers from the first time conquered almost the whole world, and they were made from a layer of artificial stone, made in the form of small tiles. The thickness of the wallpaper sheet is not more than 15 mm.

It is worth noting that this finishing material is considered one of the durable and wear-resistant relative to the paper alternative.

As for the cost of stone wallpaper and artificial masonry, the former are much cheaper and you do not need to spend fabulous sums to buy them. There are no corner elements in stone wallpaper, and therefore they can be installed like ordinary tiled products. Due to the fact that such wallpapers are made of gypsum composition, they are quite strong and durable. Accordingly, having spent on them once, you can not think about re-repair and finishing work for many years.
