How to deal with chainsaw chain sharpening yourself? The chainsaw saws badly causes and remedies The chainsaw saws to the right how to fix it.

Despite the simplicity of the design of the chainsaw, if there are interruptions in its operation, and sometimes even with a complete failure of the unit, it is quite difficult to find the cause of the problem. Of course, an experienced master will immediately be able to determine what led to a particular failure. But the average user, in order to find chainsaw malfunctions and do their own repairs, will need to study the symptoms that are inherent in a particular breakdown.

The engine is the main unit of the chainsaw, and most of the breakdowns that occur in it are related to the gasoline drive. Proper diagnostics can determine the causes and troubleshooting even for an untrained user.

The main problems with starting the engine can be the following:

  • the engine does not start;
  • works unstable;
  • start-up occurs, after which the unit immediately stalls;
  • bogs down under load.

Ignition system malfunctions

First of all, the reason that the chainsaw does not start must be sought in the ignition system of the unit. Need to start with spark plug check, as there is a possibility that the spark has disappeared.

By the state of the unscrewed candle, you can determine how the fuel system works. The candle is unscrewed with a special key.

The following figure shows 3 spark plug statuses.

fuel splattered candle speaks of its excess in the cylinder. If the candle is flooded, then most likely the carburetor is not adjusted correctly, or the rules for starting the engine were violated. The candle must be well wiped and dried. You should also dry the combustion chamber:

  • shut off the fuel supply;
  • with the spark plug removed, pull the starter several times to remove all gasoline from the cylinder:
  • install the candle in place and adjust the carburetor according to the instructions.

A large amount of soot on the candle caused by an incorrect ratio between oil and gasoline during the preparation of the fuel mixture, as well as malfunctions in the fuel supply system. If the mixture is prepared correctly, using quality oil, then the carburetor should be adjusted. A candle with soot must be cleaned by washing in gasoline. After that, it must be wiped dry, remove the remains of burning with a needle and clean the electrodes with fine sandpaper.

You should also check the candle for the correct gap between the electrodes. Normally, the gap of the candle should be in the range from 0.5 to 0.65 mm.

If dry candle, it is required to check the presence of a spark on its electrodes in order to exclude a malfunction of the ignition system.

  1. Put a cap with a high-voltage cable on the candle.
  2. Holding the cap, attach the threads of the spark plug to the cylinder.
  3. Pull the starter handle several times and see if a spark jumps between the electrodes. Normally, the spark should be bright. A weak spark indicates a possible problem with the ignition coil or the spark plug itself.

If there is a spark, then the problem must be sought in the fuel system. No spark - the reason may lie in the candle itself (needs to be replaced) or the ignition system. The absence of a spark can cause a damaged cable, which should be checked by “ringing” with a tester. With a good wire, you need to move on - check the ignition module. A malfunction of the ignition coil or an incorrectly set gap between it and the magnet can also cause the fact that the spark has disappeared.

Ignition on a chainsaw is simple: a permanent magnet is attached to the engine shaft. A coil is fixed near it under a certain gap. When the magnet rotates, an electric current is generated in the coil, which is supplied to the electrodes of the candle. In the next photo, the arrow shows where it is installed correct gap between coil and magnet.

The gap between these parts should be 0.2-0.4 mm. The walls of an ordinary plastic bottle have this thickness, and a template (probe) can be made from it by cutting off a small strip.

The gap is set as follows:

  • unscrew the screws holding the coil;
  • lay a template between the magnet and the coil;
  • lightly press the coil against the magnet;
  • tighten the coil fixing screws and remove the template.

Fuel system malfunctions

If the chainsaw does not start well, and everything is in order with the ignition system, then it is necessary to check the entire fuel system of the unit. First of all, it is required adjust the fuel mixture into the engine cylinder through the carburetor, setting it correctly.

Compression is checked with a compression gauge that is screwed into the cylinder instead of the spark plug. Next, you need to pull the starter and observe the readings of the device. Normally, a new chainsaw shows compression in the range of 8 to 12 atmospheres. If the indicator is below 8 atmospheres, the engine will not work.

Compression may be lost due to scratches on the inside of the cylinder and the side of the piston. In this case, you will have to change the entire piston group.

Chainsaw chain problems

In addition to problems with the engine, the chainsaw may have problems in operation due to a malfunction of the cutting (sawing) assembly, which consists of an oil pump, bar and saw chain.

Tire not getting oil

Usually, if oil is not supplied to the chainsaw chain, it is necessary to check the channels through which oil is supplied to the tire and clean them of dirt. If the previous steps did not find the cause of the problem, then you will have to check the oil pump. For this you need:

  • remove part of the chainsaw casing;
  • remove the clutch;
  • unscrewing 3 screws, remove the cover hiding the pump;
  • get to the worm gear, which rotates the pump shaft.

If the thread on it is worn out, then the shaft does not rotate, the pump does not work, the chain is not lubricated. A worn gear needs to be replaced. You can also pull out the oil pump itself and manually try to pump oil through it. If it does not pump, the pump should be replaced.

Chainsaw oil filter

Remember to remove the oil filter from the reservoir and clean it if necessary.

Also, lack of lubrication can be cause of leakage. You should check how tight the pipes coming from the oil pump are connected. If the tightness is broken, the tubes are replaced with new ones.

The chain breaks

If the chain broke during the operation of the chainsaw, then this could happen when it hit a hard object, for example, a nail. If the chain is constantly breaking, then the reasons may be as follows.

  1. Low quality metal from which the saw chain is made. It is necessary to buy saws for power cutters from well-known brands.
  2. Circuit overheating due to poor lubrication. As a result, the saw overheats, the properties of the metal change, and it breaks under load. A check of the entire chainsaw lubrication system is required (discussed above).

You can also learn about the causes of frequent circuit breaks from this video.

Chain does not turn

This trouble often haunts inexperienced chainsaw owners. They forget after the engine starts release the brake. As a result, the chain does not spin, the brake system overheats, and the clutch mechanism fails. The problem is solved by removing the saw from the brake. If the clutch hasn't burned out, you will notice the chain spinning. Otherwise, the clutch mechanism will need to be replaced.

Chain dulls quickly

Basically, the reason that the chain becomes dull quickly is poor saw quality. Trying to save money on buying branded chains, chainsaw owners buy saws from unknown manufacturers, or, out of inexperience, acquire fakes for well-known brands. It is best to buy a cutting element for a gas cutter in company stores. Stihl saw chains (Calm) are very popular among the owners of this equipment.

The chain won't stop

If, when working with a chainsaw, you notice that the saw chain does not stop at the right moment, then this breakdown may have 2 options.

  1. Dirty brake band. When the saw is operating, dirt, sawdust, dust, etc. can get under the band. As a result, the brake mechanism is blocked, and the chain does not stop when the gas is released. The problem is fixed by cleaning this node.
  2. Worn brake band. It is necessary to replace this element of the brake system.

Chain sticking

This happens when the drive or driven sprocket wears out. The chain usually begins to wedge under load. But without load, the saw can rotate. The photo below shows a worn chainsaw drive sprocket.

The next photo shows that the reason why the chain is wedged must be sought at the location of the driven sprocket.

But what to do if the chainsaw is completely jammed, and all attempts to pull the starter to no avail? Such a malfunction is sometimes found on Chinese-made chainsaws. It is caused by bolts loosened from vibration, with which the engine is screwed to the plastic casing of the unit. These bolts are located directly under the flywheel (magneto). In the photo below, the arrows show the location of the problematic bolts.

Getting out, they begin to rub against the flywheel and can completely jam the chainsaw. The following photo shows the flywheel with the existing bolt wear.

To fix the problem, you will need to remove the flywheel from the engine shaft and tighten the bolts.

Chainsaw sawing crookedly

This problem can occur if the chain is dull or not sharpened correctly. This, to a greater extent, applies to new chainsaws. But if worn out tire, then even after changing the chain you will notice that the saw is pulled to the side. Tire wear can be easily determined by placing it on a flat table and applying a square to it, as shown in the following photo.

In this case, you can see that there is a gap of about 2 mm between the tire and the corner. It is because of this one-sided tire wear that the chainsaw cuts crookedly. The problem is solved only by replacing the tire with a new one.

Important: in order to prolong the life of the chainsaw bar, it needs to be removed and turned over from time to time. Due to this, the bar will wear more evenly and will not cause the chain to skew.

Why does the chainsaw get hot?

The new chainsaw heats up, because all the parts of the piston group have not yet got used. Therefore, the unit must undergo a run-in, during which the engine should not be allowed to overheat. If the unit has already been run in, then overheating of the engine can cause late ignition, of course, provided that the combustible mixture was prepared without violating the proportions. To fix the problem, you will need to adjust the ignition system of the device.

Why is oil flowing

Many owners of chainsaws are faced with such a problem as oil leakage from under the unit. Most often, oil leaks due to damage to the oil hose connected to the oil pump. The photo below shows exactly the case when the end of the hose is torn and does not fit tightly on the pump nozzle.

But to get to this place, you will need to remove the clutch mechanism from the shaft. In some models of chainsaws, oil may leak at the junction of the oil pump with the oil tank hose (indicated by an arrow in the photo).

To repair a lubricant leak, you will need to pull this hose out of the landing site. To do this, you can use pliers by pulling on its outer part. At the end of the hose you will see rubber stopper which is what causes the oil to leak. This plug must be wiped well to remove oil residues, after which its seat must be sealed with something. You can use automotive sealant or fum tape, as shown in the following photo.

Electrical equipment, light, lighting

In the near future, the popularity and availability of chainsaws has increased greatly, as their cost has become more applicable to ordinary summer residents. It is only necessary to keep in mind that the lower the cost, the more often chainsaw malfunctions occur. Breakdown can, of course, be prevented if preventive maintenance is carried out on time. You can extend the life of the tool for a long time if you make a competent repair.

The purpose of the chainsaw

A chainsaw is one of those tools that is very difficult to clearly position. This can only be explained by the fact that the use of chainsaws is now so universal that it would be incorrect to classify them only as a garden, construction or other tool.

At first, the chainsaw was a strong, but at the same time expensive and languid professional equipment, which was first created for logging. True, now a chainsaw is no longer just a tool only for professional lumberjacks. Answer: Stihl 180 chainsaw. Repair and treatment of childhood diseases. Good afternoon There is a problem with the starter, I carefully looked through the topic, but did not find an answer that would help me deal with it. It is absolutely unrealistic to do without it when repairing and building wooden buildings, harvesting firewood and cutting trees.

For those who prefer to work in the garden themselves and take care of their own home, it is also needed. A chainsaw is now an undeniable high-performance candidate for a hand saw and an ax, especially if you cut down trees or saw beams. It turns out that the chainsaw is familiar to almost every craftsman.

Varieties of chainsaws by type

The use of chainsaws has increased significantly, and this leads to the fact that there is an unlimited number of different models of this tool. Conventionally, chainsaws can be divided by type or by area of implementation. By type, household, professional and semi-professional chainsaws are distinguished.

Pro model

Typically, professional chainsaws are used by those who work for a very long time, and operate the tool “for slaughter”: these are builders and lumberjacks. Specifically, professional saws are distinguished by a huge resource, their own productivity, as well as top-level vibration protection and an excellently balanced body with fairly comfortable handles - after all, this saw needs to be worked once a day.

For buyers, the main thing in this tool is not only properties, but also service life. Another fundamental requirement is, of course, unpretentiousness in maintenance, since these chainsaws are used in those places that are hundreds of kilometers away from the nearest service.

Therefore, the design should be such that it is possible to deal with small problems without the help of others. Such equipment cannot be cheap, but it is worth the money. For example, if malfunctions of the Stihl chainsaw nevertheless happened, then you can fix them even without the help of others.

household models

Household chainsaws are used "in the yard." You can at least take sawing logs for firewood. When sawing, the chainsaw fills up (therefore, from this side it does not saw and, but not much). Naturally, such a technique is even cheaper and structurally quite simpler than prof. These chainsaws are usually used occasionally, from the 1st option to another, so that some severe improvements that increase the resource of the unit are simply not necessary in this case.

Manufacturers are trying to simplify any design as much as possible in order to lower the price of the tool and make it easily accessible to a wide range of consumers. True, among household chainsaws from time to time there are models of the so-called "maximum configuration" - this is for wealthy buyers who can afford it.

Semi-professional models

Semi-professional chainsaws are a compromise of past types. All of their characteristics are average: it is not fundamentally the cost, motor resource or power. Such tools are sometimes called farm tools, as they are designed to work not so much intense as constant.

Types of chainsaws by area of use

With full confidence, we can assert the fact that today the market for chainsaws is dominated by medium and light universal models of a semi-professional or household class. This is one hundred percent understandable, because the demand among non-professionals, for example, summer residents, has repeatedly increased.

First of all, affordable cost, service and ease of operation are fundamental for them. The market provides equipment for any wallet and taste, and from time to time the least massive saws are for some reason significantly more expensive, and malfunctions of Husqvarna chainsaws also occur from time to time. Chainsaws according to the area of \u200b\u200bimplementation are divided into the following types.

Gross Models

Gross - these are tools that are designed for bucking and felling trees. If the chainsaw does not start, but the spark plug works when the engine is idling. These are the most languid and massive chainsaws. Usually, they are equipped with chains with high performance and tires of great length.

One of the distinguishing features of modern saws is the introduction of engines with not a small traction force, as well as the lowest weight-to-power ratio. In addition, there are saws that are equipped with a swivel rail and long handles. This greatly simplifies the implementation of felling cuts in difficult conditions, and stihl chainsaw malfunctions can be quickly corrected. Naturally, all felling saws are completely classified as professional equipment.

Universal Models

Universal chainsaws are the most recognizable type of chainsaws. They can be household, professional, and even semi-professional (this is determined by the resource). Lumberjacks, for example, use them specifically for cutting branches, and gardening and communal services workers with foresters dismantle the rubble and cut out dry wood.

Thanks to them, summer residents and villagers can take care of the garden and prepare firewood. Builders also use this type of saw very intensively. They are also preferred by rescuers, road builders and others. Why is the new Husqvarna chainsaw not sawing? With their help, they even carve ice statues from wood.

Small models

Small-sized (one-handed). Their second name is chainsaws, which are intended for caring for crowns on trees, which fully characterizes their main purpose. With careful removal of already warped trees and trimming, it is necessary to work not, as usual on the ground, but hanging on a rope or on a ladder.

Why does a chainsaw saw crookedly

The video carefully talks about the reasons why it can be crooked saw chainsaw, also about methods of elimination.

In this position, the chainsaw has to be held with only one hand, and the second one must be held by yourself. That is why, unlike the usual assembly, for single-handed chainsaws, the handle for the right hand is not at the back, as usual, but on top of the saw in such a way that the center of mass is located under the handle.

Chainsaws "one-handed" are champions in terms of weight and compactness. In addition to gardeners, hunters, fishermen and tourists are also interested in them. These saws are called professional, while they differ in a very high price, which is specific to professional technology.

Parts Service

What maintenance items are usually the most important? The first is, of course, chain sharpening. This obvious action dramatically affects the state of the entire instrument. The chain can get tangled, then there will be no work done: the tool will only “burn”, but not cut at all.

The only problem is that the chainsaw chain can become dull very easily. Therefore, with a professional repair of a chainsaw malfunction, friendship cannot be fixed without very high-quality sharpening. Such an action must be performed only by a specialist. Otherwise, not all teeth can be sharpened evenly, and then the saw will definitely lose its effectiveness. Tool restoration usually costs more than preventive maintenance done right in the first place.

The second is the chain tension in the chainsaw. And there is nothing at all strange in the fact that this chain can stretch: chainsaws are used so often that even a very dense chain is quickly weakened. A loose chain can easily break. It must be understood that in this case, human safety may be at risk.

The third is lubricant. Provided that there is little oil, the chainsaw will fail very quickly. It must be remembered that the operation of the entire lubrication system must be checked after each start of the tool. It is very easy to determine the correct operation, you need to see if there are drops of oil on the surface of the saw. If there is, then everything is in order and malfunctions of the oleo poppy chainsaw will not appear.

Chainsaw malfunctions

Chainsaws, like other tools, sometimes fail. Therefore, you can also do the repair of a chainsaw with your own hands. How to repair a chainsaw with an internal combustion engine? What are the possible malfunctions of the chainsaw? It won't start, or it will start and then stall. It may be that it does not work to its full potential. The easiest breakage is when the chain breaks. You can fix it very quickly, just replace the chain. There are malfunctions of chainsaw carburetors that you can repair yourself.

Fuel mixture check

You need to start the repair by checking the fuel level. Husqvarna 236 14 x torq is a chainsaw that replaced the earlier, but no less popular among users, Husqvarna 137. There is no need to save here. It must be understood that the cost of the entire repair of the cylinder-piston group will cost approximately 2/3 of the cost of a broken tool. This is probably a weighty argument to buy a fuel additive from some well-known brand with a good reputation. The proportions must be observed those indicated on the packaging for the operation of the gas tool.

The fuel mixture should be made in such a way that it can be worked out in two weeks. Further, domestic gasoline will begin to lose octane properties, and then the torment will begin with the launch of the chainsaw. A mixture that has stagnated is best disposed of. It should only be fresh so that later you do not need to repair malfunctions of the husqvarna chainsaw.

Checking details

If everything is in order with the fuel mixture, you need to look at the trigger. If everything is fine with him, then it is worth checking the candle. To do this, unscrew the candle and look at it. It should have a gap of 0.5 millimeters, which is necessary for the chainsaw to work properly.

Be sure to pay attention to which candle is dry or not. If there are no signs of fuel, then the cause of the breakdown is in the carburetor. He could hit something. In this case, it is imperative to first remove it, and then clean it.

If a new spark plug is installed, the carburetor is cleaned, but the chainsaw still does not start, then it is better to look at the cylinder-piston group. Simply put, this is what makes the chainsaw work. The chainsaw runs that the chainsaw is not capable of idling either. The task is to pull out the cylinder inside which the piston is located. But even such a technique with a chainsaw only works on a chainsaw that does not saw. The Stihl chainsaw works but it works, but when you give it gas, the chain does not spin. If it has characteristic chips or scuffs, then it definitely needs to be changed. Another cylinder can be given under the repair size or for boring.

It is also worth checking the condition of the piston rings. They should fit very tightly on the piston. To do this, insert the piston into the cylinder and shake it at the top point. If it dangles, then perhaps it just wore out, and will not give out good compression. By analyzing the appearance of the piston, you can say a lot about why the engine failed.

Lack of lubrication

Seizure can occur due to the fact that the engine has overheated, running on a lean mixture, and even with the wrong ratio of oil and gasoline in the fuel mixture, and even with the wrong type of oil that is used, or even its complete absence.

There are cases when the heating is so great that the material of the piston itself becomes plastic. It peels off near the piston skirt, and then sticks to the entire surface of the cylinder. Moreover, due to the very rapid expansion of the piston, the intake side also gets scuffed.

Usually the piston ring is not damaged and runs freely in the annular groove. Having found medium or deep scuffs on the piston of the chainsaw, it is necessary to carry out a set of actions:

  • Use a properly prepared fuel mixture;
  • Use fresh high octane fuel;
  • Replace damaged parts;
  • Replace seals and current gaskets;
  • Clean the air intake and cooling fins;
  • Clean the spark arrestor screen.

Engine overspeed

There is another typical cause of a partner chainsaw and bearing failure, damage to the locking, piston rings of the piston pin - this is a very huge engine speed.

The destruction of the entire piston ring often occurs when the permissible engine speed is exceeded. When the temperature rises while driving, the ring will become stuck in the piston groove, which will prevent the piston ring from fully retracting into the groove. As a result of this, the sharp edge of the ring protrudes, which begins to cling to all the irregularities and is clamped in the cylinder, while leading it to a normal breakdown.

Very high engine speeds will cause the ends to tap on the piston ring pin as it moves in the groove. When the knock becomes intense, it may well knock out the pin from the piston, causing significant damage to both the piston and the cylinder.

Nagar and dirt

Often damage due to excessive accumulation of soot in some symptoms resembles such damage when there is not enough lubrication. Carbon accumulates in the cylinder in the combustion chamber and in the piston on top.

Its skirt has a slightly darker shade due to passing hotter gases that are formed during combustion and make their way under the piston ring itself. In this case, it is necessary to change the gasoline, and then adjust the operation of the chainsaw carburetor.

Absolutely any substance, in addition to fuel and clean air, that enters the engine through the intake duct can easily cause piston damage, increased wear and malfunctions of the Ural chainsaw. First you need to make sure that the settings are made correctly and there are no defects. In addition, in case of significant damage, it is necessary to check the fastening of parts of the carburetor and the intake system.

Engine starting problems

How to start a cold engine immediately after purchase in a store or after storage, starting from two days? When buying at a specialized petrol equipment store, a consultant can tell in detail all the details about the operation and start-up of a petrol tool, and even demonstrate this in practice.

In order to start a cold engine, you should set the lever (in another way it is called the switch) to the position called damper closed. Next, you need to pump the mixture into the carburetor, if a fuel priming pump is available. Then pull out the starting handle until the resistance of the engine becomes noticeable, and pull vigorously in amplitude, moving your hand to the side.

After two or three such movements, the engine should first start and then stall. This may not happen, then it is necessary to move the lever to the half-gas position or simply to the working position and continue the institution in this mode with the same movements. After all this, it usually starts.

If it didn’t work out again, and the saw didn’t start, you need to calm down, then take a breath for a couple of minutes and try to start it again in the same mode. Some power tools have a simple ignition key switch, you need to make sure that it is turned on.

It should be remembered that the current preventive maintenance and a fairly competent repair of chainsaws will extend the life of the effective operation of the tool for a long time, and then the causes of a chainsaw malfunction will not appear.

Many owners of chainsaws know that when working with a tree whose diameter exceeds 30 centimeters, sawing the material is accompanied by a curvature of the tire, which seems to lead to the side. The problem becomes apparent as the diameter of the trunk increases, when operators use the “double cut” technique (make a cut from above, then turn the trunk over and make a second cut to finish the material to the end). If the chainsaw cuts crookedly, the cause must be identified immediately.

Why does the chainsaw go sideways?

It is worth considering the consequences that one has to face if the chainsaw does not cut well. If, for example, you are engaged in the preparation of wood fuel, then the curved finished chocks, due to the uneven surface, will complicate the process of splitting them into logs. If you are laying a log house, then curved bars cut with a saw that go sideways cannot be used, since the ends will be sloppy during laying.

But these are not the worst consequences, given the fact that tire misalignment leads to:

  • imbalance, and hence discomfort during the operation of the saw;
  • decrease in tool performance;
  • increase in fuel consumption.

The tire also deteriorates, which cannot but be frustrating, especially for those who have a premium expensive saw set, which will have to fork out to replace.

So why does the chainsaw saw crookedly, is there one reason or several?

There are several of them:

  • the teeth of the saw element are sharpened unevenly;
  • the wrong bar or chain is used (they do not work well together);
  • saw set is worn out.

Teeth are unevenly sharpened

Let's look at the first reason. Those operators of the power unit who have carefully studied the instructions know that the teeth grind at the same distance. It doesn't matter which side they are on. Everyone who remembers this rule when sharpening saves himself from problems in the long run, from the problem of uneven sawing of wood material.

As soon as you notice that the saw is pulling to the side, check the chain teeth. There is a high probability that it is illiterate sharpening that is the cause of the problem.

Inexperienced chainsaw operators or file users rarely control the length of the teeth. Even the notorious technique of counting the movements made when sharpening a single tooth with a file does not help. Why? Because the chain wears unevenly, which means that on certain teeth it will take more or less file movements to sharpen it to the highest quality (all teeth were even).

How to eliminate the occurrence of such a problem? Learn how to sharpen the chain correctly, do it on time. It is necessary to get into the habit of checking the teeth for wear, and if damage is found, it is recommended to resort to the use of a special sharpening machine. It's actually possible to buy one on your own. It is these machines that are used in workshops, where, for a fee, the teeth of the tools will be made identical, one to one.

Why is this method effective? Because all sharpening will be done on the smallest tooth, the one that was subject to wear. This is a guarantee that in the end each tooth will be the same.

If you want to learn how to properly operate a chainsaw chain, contact the professionals. Or learn.

There is, of course, one unpleasant nuance. It is necessary to take into account the fact that you are grinding on this device even those teeth that have not been damaged, and this leads to a decrease in the resource of the saw set. To minimize the need to resharpen low-wear teeth, be careful not to get metal parts such as nails under the chain when working with wood (this happens with old boards).

Using the wrong saw set

Many operators forget that not only the chain has characteristics, but also the guide bar, which is extremely important. An important characteristic of it, which is worth remembering, is the width of the groove for mounting the chain. On average, a width range from 1.1 millimeters to 1.6 millimeters is distinguished.

What happens if you take a chain that has a fit width of 1.1 millimeters. In this case, you will install the chain on the guide rail, the groove width of which is 1.3 millimeters. When installing, be sure to adjust the chain tension, after which you are unlikely to notice something was wrong. But as soon as the chain loosens, the difference in the width of the gaps will make itself felt. These 0.2 millimeters will not allow the chain to move along the guide bar as evenly as possible, as it rotates, it will tilt to the side, which will cause the cut to be bent.

When purchasing a replacement chain, be guided not by the model of the tool and the manufacturer of the power unit, but by its exact characteristics, taking into account the characteristics of the guide bar. Remember, identical chainsaw models can be equipped with tires with different fit widths, which means that different chains will be needed.

Not sure how to determine the fit width? This is easy to do using a caliper.

What to do if the chainsaw goes to the side for this reason, but the tire has not had time to wear out? Replace only the chain. If you have ignored the problem for a long time, the guide bar has suffered because of this, you will have to change both. Only the installation of a new set will solve the problem of a crooked cut.

The saw set is heavily worn

Did you notice a cut along the arc of the curve? It is likely that the saw set has had time to wear out a lot. How can you be sure that this is the reason? A visual inspection is sufficient. Dismantle the tire and examine its plane at the point of contact with the cutting element. Examine this area from the end to be able to carefully examine the mounting groove. In relation to the groove, evaluate the condition of both sides of the tire. If the saw is used correctly, but the wear on both sides will be even. But more often than not, one side grinds faster, which leads to a crooked cut. Only the replacement of the worn edge will help to eliminate the defect.

Important! Uniform wear will be if you listen to the recommendations of manufacturers and periodically turn the tire over. True, not all owners of chainsaws can use such a trick, since sometimes the tire has markings, according to which it can be installed in only one position.

When you have identified the cause of the cut curvature problem, have identified increased wear, diagnose the lubrication system so that after the repair you will not encounter an identical problem. Experienced service centers that repair power units know that if the lubrication mechanism works correctly, the likelihood of wear (uneven) is minimized.

If it is not possible to solve the problem with the chain using machines, pay attention to the recommendations -.

Careful maintenance of the tool, regular checks of the main components of the device, allows you to find the fault quickly. And since the nodes in a chainsaw are interconnected, the quick elimination of one problem reduces the chances of others occurring.

Why does a chainsaw cut crooked?

Working with a chainsaw, in some cases you can see how, when cutting a tree trunk with a diameter of more than 30 cm, the tire gradually begins to drift to the side. This is especially noticeable when you need to cut the trunks of a huge diameter, using the double cut technique, i.e., first they saw from above, and later they turn over and finish sawing to the end.

Chocks, crookedly sawn off with a chainsaw, have an uneven surface, this causes some discomfort when they are split into logs. And the introduction of such a chainsaw when laying a log house, for example, for trimming bars, is not at all acceptable, since the ends will turn out to be uneven.

Why does the chainsaw lead to the side

Discomfort at work, reduced productivity, increased fuel consumption, crooked res, these are all the bad consequences of this phenomenon, but what is the reason?

There are basically only three circumstances:

  1. Uneven sharpening of teeth;
  2. The introduction of a circuit that does not correspond to the characteristics of the tire or vice versa;
  3. Excessive wear of the chainsaw saw set.

uneven sharpening

This is justified by the fact that the wear of the teeth is uneven, some are more severely damaged and more movements are required with the file in order to bring them back to normal, which means that the size of such teeth will decrease significantly compared to the rest.

How to avoid incorrect sharpening

In order to prevent a curved cut due to uneven sharpening, it is possible at times or in case of severe damage to use a special sharpening machine to straighten the chain. Buy a machine and sharpen it yourself or give it to a workshop for sharpening.

The fact is that the machine during sharpening is adjusted according to the most worn tooth, which has the smallest size among all. After sharpening is carried out, all teeth will have a uniform size, which will be equal to the tooth on which the adjustment was performed.

Why crooked saw chainsaw

The video carefully explains the reasons why crooked saw chainsaw, also about methods of elimination.

Does the chain lead to the left or to the right, why?

I'm sitting in a mask, because the dust from sharpening is everywhere!

The disadvantage of this method is that the life of the chain is significantly reduced, since it is necessary to grind even not warped teeth very much. Try to use the chainsaw more carefully, look after nails and any other metal products that may come across when cutting old boards and other rubbish.

Using the wrong chain

It's no secret that the chainsaw tire, like the chain, has several main features, one of them is the width of the groove for installing the chain. The width of the groove can have several main dimensions:

Let's imagine that we take a chain with a fit width of 1.1 and install it on a bar with a groove of 1.3 mm. At first, having pulled it perfectly, we may not see any difference, but as the tension weakens a little, a gap of 0.2 mm will not give it the ability to moderately move along the tire, it will lean to one side and we will again get crooked sawn material.

When buying a replacement chain for your chainsaw, list the actual size of the chain, not the make and model of the chainsaw. On monotonous models of chainsaws, different tires can be installed and, accordingly, the chains will also differ.

Check the width of the chain fit, you can use a caliper.

To fix the problem, if the chainsaw tire has not yet suffered much damage and there is no uneven wear on it, only the chain will need to be changed. If there is already wear on it, you need to install a completely new set.

Increased wear

If chainsaw sawing crooked in an arc, the reason may be the excessive wear of the saw set. You can check by visual inspection of their contact surfaces. To do this, the tire must be removed from the chainsaw and look at its plane of contact with the chain from the end, placing it at eye level in such a way that the landing groove for the chain is one hundred percent visible.

With this inspection, you can visually assess the wear of the left and right side of the tire in relation to the groove. Usually, edge wear should be moderate, in which case if one side is worn down harder, to fix the problem, you need to change the defective one to the new one.

For uniform tire wear, some manufacturers advise turning it from time to time. But it is worth keeping in mind that not for all headset models, this recommendation is correct, because many manufacturers indicate on the surface of the tire the direction of movement of the chain along it, and accordingly, such a part can be installed only in one position.

The figure below shows a number of views, the top one has the direction of installation of the chain, as we are informed by the icon on the tip of the tire and the direction indicator.

Experienced masters of service centers for the repair of chainsaws, if excessive wear is detected, recommend a complete diagnosis of the lubrication system saw set, because with a properly functioning lubrication system and the installation of a chain corresponding to the chainsaw tire, this phenomenon should not be observed, as it should, the oil supply system may have malfunctions or incorrect adjustment.

If you observe a curved cut when working with a chainsaw, the first thing you should pay attention to is the correspondence of the chainsaw chain to its tire. If everything is normal, check the sharpening of the teeth and wear of the tire, if excessive wear is detected, check the lubrication system for proper operation, since the problem may lie in it. And the main thing to keep in mind is that everything is interconnected in a chainsaw and the use of low-quality oils for lubricating chains can become a prerequisite for early wear and loss of performance by a chainsaw.

Do-it-yourself chainsaw chain sharpening The chain tooth cuts wood like a planer, and the thickness of the chips is regulated by the height of the limiter. Saturated work of the saw leads to a sharp blunting of the chain. During the 1st day, several sharpenings may be required. The problem is worsened by the fact that the tooth rapidly becomes dull when it meets the ground. Pretty one...
