Topiary made from coffee beans: instructions

What do you need to make your own coffee topiary? As a rule, making such a craft will not be difficult, you just need to prepare the necessary materials and be patient, because you will need to carefully glue each grain. To make the tree beautiful, it is important to choose only high-quality coffee beans of any Arabica variety.

It is important that the grains are whole and at least approximately the same size. It is good to choose small grains, as they fit better together and do not leave gaps. They should be smooth and neat. Broken, exfoliated grains are not suitable for creating a tree.

In order to make a beautiful decoration, you need to follow several rules:

  • In order to make a tree trunk, you will definitely need to prepare material for its base. For this case, a variety of sticks and wire are suitable, which will need to be wrapped with some kind of ribbon or thread;
  • Flower pots are suitable for the base. It is best to choose plain containers, as they will be easier to decorate;
  • The container where the tree will be “planted” should not be large. It is best to use flower pots or glasses the size of the tree itself. The product will look ugly in a large dish.

As a rule, you can use any available materials to make a coffee tree. In addition to coffee beans, various ribbons, beads, artificial flowers, shells and other elements can be used here to make the topiary more interesting and beautiful. It is important to glue the grains very carefully so as not to stain them and spoil their appearance.

Materials for creating a coffee tree

For a regular coffee tree you will need the following materials and equipment:

  • The base is a ball. It can be a foam ball, Christmas tree toy, ball and others;
  • Stick for the trunk. You can take thick wire, branches from trees and wrap them with threads, yarn, ribbons;
  • Gun with glue sticks;
  • Coffee beans are of high quality and approximately the same size;
  • Glue;
  • Acrylic paints and brushes for their application;
  • Paper napkins;
  • Plastic pot;
  • Decorations: ribbons, beads, large beads and other decor.

Using various materials and decor, you can create exclusive crafts that will fit perfectly into the interior and decorate the space. How to make a coffee topiary with your own hands? Step-by-step instructions include the following steps:

  1. The ball base is completely covered with paper napkins. For this, high-quality PVA glue is used. Leave for some time until the glue dries completely.
  2. Then a cross-shaped cut is made on the workpiece.
  3. The prepared tree trunk is glued to the spherical base using a glue gun.
  4. The ball is colored. The color of the paint should be at least roughly reminiscent of coffee.
  5. The barrel is treated with glue and wrapped with ribbons or threads.
  6. The grains are glued one after another, without gaps, in 2 layers. 1 layer must be made so that it does not cover the part where the trunk is “planted”.
  7. The resulting tree is placed in a pot and hot glue is poured onto the bottom.
  8. The pot is filled with rice or other small materials in the form of pebbles, and the top is filled with paint pre-mixed with PVA glue.
  9. To decorate crafts, use coffee, beads or any other materials.

Coffee love

Products made from coffee beans, which are made in the shape of a romantic heart, are a gift for your beloved half or relatives, which can be presented for any holiday or just to please someone. There is only one difference in manufacturing, which is the design of the base for the craft. The following materials are used for it:

  • Brushes for applying paints;
  • Plaster;
  • Thick cardboard blanks;

Beautiful romantic heart made of coffee beans

  • Coffee beans;
  • Threads or yarn;
  • Acrylic paints;
  • White paper napkins;
  • High quality glue that holds parts well.

To form the base, 3 hearts are cut out of thick cardboard, the main thing is that 1 is larger and the other two are smaller. The two resulting small hearts are glued to a large piece. The base is covered with napkins, then paint similar in color to the coffee bean is applied. When the paint has dried thoroughly, threads are wound around the workpiece in a chaotic manner, after which plaster is applied and the grains are fixed in two layers - this is done to make the heart seem more voluminous.

Coffee sunflowers

To perform this type of topiary, you will mainly need to take foam base balls, which can be purchased in hypermarkets and handicraft stores. Coffee topiary, how to make it right? The operating procedure is as follows:

  • Coffee beans are glued to the foam balls so that they do not fit tightly against each other.
  • The petals are made using satin ribbons, which are treated with a colorless manicure coating so that they do not fall apart into individual threads and are folded into the shape of petals, which are then glued to cardboard blanks.
  • In the end, when everything is ready, you just need to combine the petals and coffee cores to get a beautiful sunflower.

Very beautiful sunflower, like a real living plant

Topiary is perfect as a gift for those who love coffee and simply cannot resist even the sight of it. And from ancient legends you can hear that this is not just a beautiful tree, but also an excellent accessory that brings good luck to the house.

Twine topiary

Coffee topiary, photos of which can be seen on social networks from needlewomen, is made from various materials. So, a craft of this kind is made from twine. The twine goes well with the color of the coffee beans and serves as an excellent addition to the topiary. This craft is made in accordance with the following master class:

  • You will need to take a cardboard paper tray. You will only need protruding parts from which the flower petals will be made. The protruding parts are cut off and wrapped tightly with twine.
  • In order to fix the twine, you will need to take a glue gun, since only it will be able to properly glue the necessary parts. The result will be round “nuts”.
  • Next you will need to form the flowers. To do this, lengths are cut from twine. For a flower you will need to take 5 large pieces and 4 small ones. Petals are formed and attached to each other with a hot glue gun. After this, the flowers are attached to the base.
  • Coffee beans are placed in the middle of the flower petals and fixed with hot glue.
  • Prepared flowers are attached to previously prepared “nuts”.

In fact, there are quite a lot of topiaries with twine and they are all different in appearance. Each needlewoman can, based on this master class, supplement it with her own ideas and then she will get a new unique topiary.

Craft “Floating Cup”

Making such a craft will not be easy for a beginner. However, with the necessary patience and at least a little experience in creating happiness coffee trees, you can make a Floating Cup. By following some rules, you can make a similar interior decoration that will fit into the interior of both the living room and the kitchen.

To make jewelry you will need to take the following materials:

  • Coffee beans;
  • Cup and saucer. A large pair will not work, it is better to take a smaller option;
  • Construction foam;
  • Copper wire or thick wire;
  • Glue gun with glue;
  • The colors are brown, coffee shade.

The floating cup is a great decoration for your dining room and kitchen

The process of creating a floating cup consists of the following algorithm:

  • You will need to take a copper wire and cut 20 cm from it;
  • Then you need to measure 7 cm on the wire and roll this part into a circle;
  • From the other end of the wire you need to set aside 4 cm and bend it again;
  • The saucer and cup must be completely degreased, otherwise it will be impossible to stick the coffee beans to them;
  • Glue the wire to the saucer where it was bent. Let the glue dry completely.
  • After a while, glue the other side of the wire to the cup. Do not release the cup immediately, as it is not yet completely stuck. It is better to place a support under it and let the glue dry again. In order for the base to dry, it will need to be left for 8-10 hours.
  • Now you need to tilt the cup by bending the wire to the desired degree.
  • Apply construction foam around the wire. You don't need a lot of it, as it increases during application.
  • Leave the workpiece again until completely dry, about a day.

The frozen foam needs to be cut off, or rather its excess edges.

  • Paint the cured foam with paint.
  • Attach the coffee beans to the painted part, pressing them tightly together.
  • The saucer can be decorated with cinnamon sticks, anise flowers and other decor.

Do-it-yourself coffee topiary for beginners contains detailed step-by-step photos so that even a beginner can design a topiary.

Coffee topiary is a decorative craft that will harmoniously fit into almost any interior. Coffee beans will exude their amazing aroma for a long time and fill the room with warmth and comfort. Once you have made your topiary, you will want to create even more complex options and give them to friends. See you soon on the pages of the site!

At first, topiary simply referred to a garden in which ornamental trees were trimmed short with adjacent garden sculptures. In the current understanding, topiary means an original small tree. If you want to quickly get a small tree with the perfect shape, you can make it yourself.

At least four elements are needed for this craft. Such a small list is just a base, without which a sort of flower globe on a stem will not work.

Required items:

  • Pot/stand;
  • Trunk;
  • The basis;
  • Crown.

The main craft is usually a ball. Man has an inherent desire to comprehend perfection, and strict geometry sometimes brings him closer to this. But in the photo you can see other forms of topiary, for example, a heart.

Today, a foam blank is used as a base. In order not to make the ball himself, the master buys several at once in craft stores, and this, of course, simplifies the work.

For the trunk, thick wire is usually taken, it needs to be wrapped with twine (twine is used most often), or with decorative braid or ribbon.

Making your own topiary: the basics step by step

The most interesting stage of work, where great opportunities open up, is the manufacture of the crown. Paper is often used, from corrugated paper to multi-layer napkins. Creating such a crown requires care.

Fabric crafts are also interesting; in the photo you can see all the nuances of this work. The now popular felt is widely used in the creation of topiary; cotton and satin ribbons are also used.

The fabric crown will be complemented by beads, seed beads, and buttons. Whatever the crown is made from, the most interesting works can be made from pistachios. European wood (as these products are also called) turn out to be very natural. True, you will need a lot of pistachios, unless you are planning to make a mini-tree.

In addition to pistachios, coffee beans are actively used. This technique is in such demand because it can kill two birds with one stone. The bonsai tree will not only be beautiful, it is important that it also emits a special aroma.

DIY thread topiary

A separate story is topiary made of different thicknesses of threads. Usually the threads serve as the basis for the future crown. To make such a tree, you need to wrap a balloon with threads, and it is important that the threads sit on the glue. The balloon is then deflated (just poke a pin through it) and you are left with a round, porous figure of thread. Such a thread globe. Just wait until the glue dries!

Other threads can be used to decorate the trunk of a tree. You should not use the same threads from which the globe is made. The structure of such thread structures is used not only in the creation of topiary. This is often how a lamp is made - quickly and easily.

Topiary made from coffee beans: fragrant decor

Coffee beans themselves are an excellent decorative material. In their color and texture, they are not inferior to the decor made of glass beads, beads, and even the incredible aroma is associated with the benefits of coffee.

There is also such a fashionable type of coffee topiary made from coffee as a coffee gentleman. This tree has handles, a butterfly or a whole tailcoat, and a cylinder on the head-crown.

Coffee topiary is characterized by:

  • Selection of grains - large and beautiful ones go to the upper layer of the crown, and small and chopped ones to the lower layer;
  • Instead of a pot or vase, you can use a beautiful coffee cup;
  • Chocolate candies can complement this topiary.

The grains can be spray painted or varnished.

The main stage of making the base for the crown is already known to you. The crown may not necessarily be in the shape of a ball. If a “heart” topiary is planned, the base is made using a cardboard template covered with crumpled paper or cotton wool.

Napkin topiary: delicate flowers

Modern paper napkins are more of a decorative product than a household one. The structure of the napkin and the pattern inspire craftsmen to widely use these same napkins. Including in the manufacture of topiary.

How can you use napkins in this case:

  • Make flowers, buds, roses from fragments of a napkin, and then create compositions from them;
  • Cover the smooth base ball for the crown with the top layer of a napkin (decoupage principle), cover with a layer of varnish;
  • Creating numerous miniature lumps from a napkin and pasting these lumps over the base ball to form a textured crown.

Napkins are also a good material for decorating a tree trunk or a pot. And here you will need to use decoupage techniques. New Year's topiaries made from napkins and textured Christmas trees are especially elegant.

Topiary made of pine cones: New Year's decoration or memories of autumn

This topiary will be an excellent winter decoration, and pine cones are somehow related to autumn decor. Most often, the cones themselves are subjected to decorative processing. So, for topiary they are often painted with golden spray paint (or silver). And with the help of a simple bleach, ordinary buds can be turned into snow-white without any coloring.

Pine cone topiary is most often a tree with a round crown covered with cones. Sometimes the crown can be heart-shaped. New Year's topiary can be made in the form of a snowflake from cones. In this case, it is advisable to cover the snowflake with artificial snow. This can be ordinary coarse sea salt fixed with PVA glue.

As an autumn craft, this topiary also includes chestnuts, acorns, nuts and leaves.

Cone decor: tree of happiness (photo master class)

Let's take a closer look at the process of making a tree of happiness from pine cones in an autumn theme. A foam ball will be used as the base, which can be replaced with a homemade ball made of any material.

Product made from satin ribbons: DIY tree of happiness

Satin ribbons are an inexpensive and accessible material that can be used at different stages of topiary making. Most often, ribbons are used as additional decor. They are tied around pots, trunks, and bows made of satin ribbons complement the crown.

But this type of topiary is also popular, as a souvenir tree with flowers made of satin ribbons.

The principle of creating such a tree is simple:

  • A bud is formed from satin ribbons of different colors, the components of which are sewn together with hidden seams;
  • The required number of flower buds is made, which are fixed with hot glue on the base ball;
  • The trunk of the tree is tied with a satin ribbon or a combination of both;
  • The pot can also be tied with a thin ribbon.

The video master class will show the process of making a tree from ribbons in more detail.

Autumn topiary: memories of the golden age

An autumn tree or a souvenir topiary decorates the house like nothing else, if you want to bring accents of the lyrics of autumn into it. Most often, natural materials are used, which can be found literally under your feet.

Cones, chestnuts, acorns, dried flowers, berries, rowan and, of course, leaves are actively used.

This type of topiary is popular as a tree with a crown of roses made from leaves. To prevent the leaves from wilting, they can be soaked in a glycerin solution. True, this process is not so simple, if only because for two to three weeks glycerin will be absorbed into the leaf through a slightly cut twig. And then the leaves will dry for another three weeks.

Sea topiary: souvenir made from shells

Topiary can be made as follows:

  • Cover the crown with beautiful shells, decorating such a ball in one place with a decorative starfish;
  • Wrap the trunk with a satin blue or turquoise ribbon;
  • The pot can be a souvenir mug bought just on vacation, and if there is some kind of symbolic inscription on it, even better;
  • You can throw smooth pebbles or sea sand into the pot.

Instead of a round crown, there may be a heart-shaped crown. And this, in turn, could be a photo frame where a canvas of shells frames a photograph from a seaside holiday.

Topiary made of corrugated paper

Corrugated paper is cheap, and the number of handicraft items where it can be used is huge. Making topiaries also could not do without the use of corrugated paper (or crepe paper).

Having made the required number of flowers from corrugated paper, they are glued to the base ball with a hot-melt gun, forming a flower crown.

Corrugated paper has the most wonderful property - it is flexible and stretches well, making the petals incredibly lifelike.

Topiary “Money Tree”: how to attract financial well-being

The topiary itself is often called the money tree, although it was originally considered the tree of happiness. But you can also turn such a lucky souvenir into a money symbol - for this you use either coins or banknotes (souvenir, finite).

Coins can become a beautiful crown decoration. You just need to take ten-ruble coins that appear to be gold. They do not need to be additionally decorated, varnished or undergo other procedures. Coins are glued on according to the principle of scales, first one coin, then two more on top of it, so that the first one is in the middle. And around these three coins others are stuck.

The money tree of their bills also looks great, but the bills need to be presented gracefully. Buds, rolls, “birds”, etc. are formed from them. This money tree is an excellent gift option for a young family that has yet to build their family budget.

New Year's topiary: decorate the house for the holiday

New Year's souvenir trees are special topiaries that can be made from a variety of materials. Most often, topiaries are made in the form of a Christmas tree, that is, the usual round crown is replaced by the shape of a Christmas tree.

Cones are used as materials for New Year's topiary:

  • Cones– both in natural form and decorated;
  • Tulle or organza, from which you can make so-called pounds;
  • Felt- in itself, in its texture, which is an excellent decor;
  • Sequins, from which “Christmas tree scales” can be created;
  • Textile;
  • Christmas tinsel and sweets;
  • Chocolate candies and beautiful wrappers.

New Year's topiary is a special decor. The use of rhinestones, beads, bugles, buttons, braid and satin ribbons is welcome. As a pot, you can use cups that are decorated with cotton wool, New Year-themed napkins, tinsel, etc.

Other options: what topiary can be made from

Almost anything can make a great decorative base for topiary. You can combine materials, create eclectic trees, etc.

Examples of topiary:

  • Topiary made of buttons. Buttons of different sizes and colors can become a crown for a tree. They are easy to glue, easy to work with, and assembling the buttons is not at all difficult.
  • Paper rose topiary. Paper roses from old sheet music (many people have collections lying around on the mezzanine) look very beautiful - this is vintage, which is so relevant now.
  • Pistachio topiary. Pistachio shells, both decorated and natural, can decorate the crown of a tree.
  • Pasta topiary. Pasta is an excellent material for decoration. They are easy to paint, varnish, and glue together. All that remains is to choose the pasta of the desired shape.

Sometimes not the most ordinary materials complement traditional topiary.

Unusual topiary design

European trees serve as excellent home decorations. For the kitchen, the living room, and other rooms, such trees will serve as natural decor. And e If the material from which the topiary is made is difficult to surprise anyone today (although it is possible), then it is definitely possible to impress with the form.

Step-by-step master class with photos - coffee topiary

Pouring a clay pot, attaching the trunk

Stage 1. Barrel preparation. For the coffee topiary, a trunk from a wild corilus branch was used: before painting, it was necessary to carefully sand the surface with pumice (you can use sandpaper). Store-bought Corilus sticks are supplied already smooth.

We attach the prepared trunk with plasticine to the bottom of the cup, planning in advance where the crown will be. We sharpen the opposite end to simplify the subsequent fixation of the ball.

If there is a drainage hole in a flower pot, carefully seal it with tape and plasticine so that the solution does not leak out.

Stage 2. Filling the pot. Mix building plaster or alabaster 1 to 1 with warm water (but not hot). Fill the pot almost to the top, leave for a day so that the plaster hardens completely. After drying, cover the surface with 2 layers of PVA glue to improve the adhesion of decorative materials to the plaster.

Forming a crown from coffee beans

Stage 3. Painting the foam ball. The design of the coffee tree involves coating the coffee beans with bronze, so rough painting of the ball is more an option than a necessity: the paint layer will prevent hot silicone from melting the foam. Paints of any color are suitable, we recommend using acrylic - your hands won't get dirty, like with gouache.

Stage 4. Gluing coffee beans. It is much more convenient to glue the coffee before fixing the ball on the barrel. We choose whole and even halves, without flaws. We glue the grains individually, with the outer side up, coating a small area of the ball with silicone or Dragon glue. Bronzing does not require a perfect coffee surface, so this faster method is perfect.

We fill the entire surface of the topiary with coffee, leaving only a small circle under the hole into which we attach the trunk with glue. It is necessary to prepare the hole in advance by cutting it with a sharp object so that the ball does not burst when fixed.

Instead of coffee, you can use pistachio shells, beans, or any other similar shaped material. Any original ideas? Write in the comments or on social networks!

Bronzing coffee topiary

Stage 5. Painting the crown. Using acrylic - antique bronze (with a brush or from a spray can), carefully paint the coffee beans and the gaps between them in 1 layer. Drying time - up to 30 minutes. After bronzing, we take a sponge and gold acrylic: with light movements in a chaotic manner we powder the surface of the coffee topiary.

Stage 6. Painting the barrel. After the crown, we begin painting the trunk and ladder: it is convenient to work in this order. We bronze the trunk in 2 layers, the ladder in one.

Decorating the crown

Stage 7. Basic flower arrangement. On one side of the topiary ball we form a composition of 3 large fabric flowers with a backing of organza and a narrow satin ribbon. Next we glue 3 foamiran roses on twisted satin ribbons. On the opposite side we glue a decorative butterfly.

Stage 8. A scattering of pearls. We glue pearls generously over the entire surface of the coffee tree ball in a chaotic manner - in the cracks between the grains.

Stage 9. Leaves. At the base of the ball we glue 2 leaves and 3 foamiran roses and decorate the composition with pearls. In addition, we glue 3 leaves under large fabric flowers.

Flowerpot design

We glue sisal in a circle onto the plaster surface to completely cover the plaster. A twisted wide dark brown ribbon, a leaf, 2 foamiran roses and a fabric flower - a composition at the base of a coffee tree. We fix the ladder on the opposite side and distribute the remaining pearls evenly over the sisal.

No one can say exactly how long coffee has been known to the human race. This drink has become a part of our lives. And creative people have even made coffee a source of self-expression. And such a thing as coffee topiary is known to almost every person.

Applications of coffee beans

So how can we use coffee beans beyond their intended purpose? Coffee is most often used in cosmetology. Scrubs or soap are made from it. Coffee beans can be used as a flavoring agent and as an ant repellent. And with a strong brewed drink they rinse their hair and paint pictures. Using coffee beans of different shades, you can create mosaic paintings, as well as other masterpieces of art. One of these is coffee bean topiary.

What is topiary

The word topiary itself, translated from Latin, means “curly haircut.” This art is often used by garden owners to decorate their property with figured shrubs.

Nowadays, the same term also refers to the creation of artificial miniature ornamental trees. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how to make a coffee topiary with your own hands and at minimal cost.

What you need to create a miniature tree

As in any business, there is a certain universal set of tools and materials for creating a miniature tree. To make a coffee topiary with your own hands, you will need a pot, a base (a ball or other shape), a blank for the trunk, coffee beans, and decorative elements. The tools you will probably need are scissors, tweezers, a glue gun and a supply of hot glue.

Selecting a pot

Any topiary needs a pot or other container for planting. It is this part that subsequently determines the entire style of the tree. And therefore you should approach the choice of container with all responsibility. Start first of all from the interior of the room in which the topiary will be located in the future. You can choose a flower pot to suit your taste by visiting a houseplant store, or decorate any container suitable for your tree yourself.

Also, do not forget about what kind of topiary you have. Coffee tree, for example, looks good in a teapot or cup. But in general, you can use any container decorated with fabric, foil, or even just paper. Remember that the more magnificent the “crown” of the tree, the more restrained the pot should be.

What to make a trunk from

Any interestingly curved branch, a wooden skewer, a sushi stick, or even a wire wrapped in something cute can be suitable for the trunk.

Coffee topiary looks interesting if you wrap a natural fiber rope around its trunk. When choosing a trunk for a future tree, pay attention to the expected size of the crown. After all, your tree as a whole should look proportional.

Planting in a pot

At this stage of work everything is simple. Since the weight of the grains glued to the crown is not small, it is best to fill the tree trunk in a pot with alabaster or gypsum. To do this, dilute the gypsum in a separate container to the consistency of thick sour cream and pour it into the container that you use as a pot. Leave this entire structure overnight. After the mass has completely hardened, decorate it on top in such a way that this design echoes the future crown of the tree. If you have a coffee topiary, you can simply add a few coffee beans at the bottom or fill the entire space with them.

"Crown"

The “crown” of the tree can have a round shape, traditional for topiary, or look something more unusual. The variety of “crowns” in this article will be illustrated by the master classes below. Topiary, the coffee beans of which have different shades, looks more interesting. The variety of colors of coffee beans is usually caused by the degree of roasting. They can be lighter, almost black, white and even green. Topiary made from coffee beans can be of absolutely any shape, as well as any volume.

For the top, you can use purchased foam molds, or you can make them yourself, for example, using the papier-mâché technique. Or cut out a flat piece of cardboard of the required size and give it a little volume on the sides. To do this, cover the cardboard with cotton pads. To prevent peeking cotton wool from spoiling your topiary in the future, it is better to paint a coffee tree created in this way with brown paint or wrap it with natural rope. And then use hot glue to attach the coffee beans. Sometimes you even need to do two layers.

Heart with coffee aroma

Love and coffee can be perfectly combined in one product. An example of such a masterpiece is the coffee topiary heart. This is a wonderful gift for all coffee lovers, for example, for Valentine's Day.

To make such a product, you need to cut out a heart-shaped piece of the required size from cardboard and decorate it in the manner described above. Choose a suitable pot. Don't be afraid to use all shades of red in this composition. They will go great with brown coffee. Decorate this tree with lace, beads, ribbons or feathers. Add glitter and miniature hearts. Thus, a wonderful fragrant gift created with your own hands is ready.

coffee sunflower

Sunflower topiaries are quite original. The coffee aroma of these sunny flowers will delight its owner for quite a long time. To make a tree crown in the shape of a sunflower, coffee beans alone will not be enough for you. With the help of coffee, only the middles are made in these colors. But the sunflower also has bright yellow petals. To make these petals, you can use fabric, satin ribbons or paper.

They come out very beautifully from satin ribbon, especially if you use different shades and widths. You can cut out the petals using a stencil and singe them over a candle or using a lighter. Or you can use thin tape. In this case, cut it into pieces of the required length. Fold each piece to form a loop, secure the ends of the tape by melting them over the candle. Attach two or three standing petals to a round piece of cardboard using hot glue. Each of these layers must overlap slightly with respect to the previous one. On the back side of the workpiece, attach the same loops of green ribbons. And on the side of the yellow petals there is a middle made of coffee beans.

Center for coffee sunflower

To make a center for a sunflower topiary using coffee beans, take a foam ball or half of it and cover it with two layers of coffee beans. This is necessary to prevent the surface of the ball from showing through the grains. Before you start gluing, sort through the grains and select all those that have the same size and shape. And although at first glance it may seem that the grains are no different from each other, upon closer examination you will find elements that have certain shortcomings. Attach the pasted balls or hemispheres to a cardboard base with petals. On the reverse side, make a hole into which the wire stem will be inserted. Decorate the entire composition with miniature insects.

To summarize, it can be noted that coffee topiary - for all its ease of implementation - amazes with the variety of possible shapes and designs. It can become a wonderful souvenir for all occasions and symbolize any holiday.

In addition, its creation does not require too much financial investment, and the size of the coffee beans allows them to form even the most unusual “crown” shapes. Which, of course, allows you to use your imagination to the fullest and use seemingly quite unusual decor.

Fragrant coffee topiary will not leave anyone indifferent: such decor will decorate a living room, kitchen, office or public place. This is a great homemade gift that even a beginner can handle. With some skill and preliminary preparation, the process takes no more than 2-3 hours. We'll tell you all about topiary made from coffee beans: what are its features, how to make it yourself, what interesting options there are.

Types of coffee topiary

In general, topiary is the art of curly pruning trees and shrubs, resulting in a topiary - a tree with a round crown, a bush in the shape of an animal or a heart, etc. The first topiaries from coffee beans were made in the shape of a round tree on a stem-leg. Then the fantasy took a step further, other variations of geometric shapes appeared, but the name stuck.

  • Volumetric heart;

  • Star;

  • Floating cup;

  • Flower;

  • Products on a stand;

  • Hanging;

  • Round balls for decoration.

There are many master classes on the Internet on making topiary from coffee beans with your own hands, and you can be inspired by various implementations, repeat a beautiful product, or come up with something of your own.

We talk about how you can make an unusual topiary from coffee beans and decorate it in various ways.

  • Before gluing the grains, do not forget to treat the surface so that the background does not show through. This can be done with brown gouache, but it’s better with finely ground coffee, it will give off an additional aroma and it will look noble. You can also use it to treat the stand stick itself.
  • As a base, you can choose a cup, a mini coffee pot or milk jug, a decorative bucket or a flower pot (but you need to seal the hole in the bottom). You can place the cup on a saucer and glue it so that the product does not turn over.
  • The stick-trunk is usually wrapped with double-sided tape, and a decorative tape is wrapped around it. The thinner the ribbon, the more elegant everything looks. Coarse twine is also used.
  • As decoration for topiary made from coffee beans, you can use spices, dried orange slices, star anise (star anise), and white beans for a mosaic pattern.
  • The base is usually filled with plaster or alabaster - they harden quickly and hold firmly. If you have a massive top, you can add heavy stones to the plaster so that the entire structure is stable and does not tip over.
  • Try to choose beans of the same variety and roast. That is, it is better to take not a mixture of Arabica and Robusta, but one thing, and optimally - in a large package, so that the difference in shades is minimal. Arabica is used more often, as it has beautiful beans with a pleasant aroma. But Robusta is more round, which is sometimes more practical.
  • Experts recommend gluing grains onto topiary in 2 layers. This way the bottom one shines through under the top one, the composition seems deeper and becomes more interesting. The first layer is usually glued with the middle strip down, the second, outer layer, with the strip up.
  • The most beautiful grains are selected for the top part. The ones at the bottom are less noticeable and can accommodate beans with slight color defects. If you glue in two layers, sort the grains in advance, choosing the best ones for the outer surface, which will be visible.
  • You can glue not only with the plane of the grain, but also with one edge so that they stick out as if perpendicular. This is more complex and painstaking work, but the result is more impressive.
  • Coffee bean topiary can be themed. For example, double, for a couple, or wedding, with appropriate decor, or Easter, or Christmas. It all depends only on your imagination.

Many people are concerned about the question: is it worth covering coffee bean topiary with varnish? Finished with a glossy shine and easier to care for. But the varnish kills all the aroma of the beans. So it's up to you to decide.

Let's consider a simple decor option that even a schoolchild can handle - the classic topiary made from coffee beans “Tree of Happiness”. On average, the work takes up to three hours if you prepare everything you need in advance.

You will need:

  • The basis for the figure. For example, a foam ball. Sold in craft stores, sometimes can be found in flower or construction stores.
  • Leg-trunk. As an option - an ordinary strong twig, and even if it is not perfectly smooth, it is even more interesting. You may need to strip it of bark.
  • The base is, for example, a cup.
  • Plaster or alabaster.
  • Fabric tape and double-sided tape for wrapping the leg.
  • Coffee beans.
  • Brown gouache. As a last resort - black. Or ground coffee. What you will use to cover the base.
  • Glue. You can use PVA, but assembly is better. It is better not to use a hot gun. Superglue can come in handy, so grab some.

Let's start making topiary from coffee beans:

  1. Make a hole in the base so that the leg fits about a third of the ball's diameter.
  2. Paint the base and set aside to dry.
  3. Sort through the grains, decide how many layers you will glue them into.
  4. Starting at the top, apply a little glue to the area and attach the grains.

You should not apply glue to the entire ball at once, and then sprinkle it with grains or roll them in them. This speeds up the process, but the result looks sloppy.

You can place a bowl of water next to it, lightly wet your finger so that the grain sticks to it, and then transfer it to the base.

  1. When you get to the bottom edge, leave a small area around the hole for the stick.
  2. Wrap the stick first with tape, then with tape.
  3. Apply glue to the stick and a little into the hole, insert the leg, let it dry a little.
  4. Add the rest of the grains.
  5. Pour as much water into the base as you need. Mix in plaster or alabaster, insert the leg of the structure, and hold until it hardens evenly.
  6. When everything is dry, decorate the alabaster (you can stick on grains).
  7. Using superlay, glue spices and decor. Tie decorative ribbons.

It is better to let the product dry for a day and then hand it over. If any of the grains fall off, attach them with superglue.

This is a much more complex level of coffee bean topiary, and it is better to take on this type of decor when you already have more experience. The whole difficulty is to fix the cup so that its center of gravity does not extend beyond the saucer. The base of the “flowing” grains is usually made of wire, which is glued with instant glue. Sometimes it is wrapped in fabric, sometimes polyurethane foam is used. There are many options, it’s worth carefully studying all the nuances. And it’s better to try for the first time on cheaper dishes, so as not to spoil the one intended for the composition, and make sure that everything sticks well.

Don't start making large flying cups with spilling grains. Try it with little ones, it will be easier and more accurate.

Conclusions:

  1. You can make a topiary from coffee beans with your own hands in 2-3 hours.
  2. Usually a round ball or a voluminous heart is chosen for the shape. Any shape you find at a craft store will do.
  3. The flying cup is a rather complex topiary, but it can also be made at home.
  4. For decoration you can use ribbons, bows, spices, grains, figurines and much more.
  5. If you do not varnish the product, it will emit a subtle, pleasant aroma. But varnished ones are easier to wipe off dust.
