DIY screw piles

The foundation on screw piles is considered a universal and reliable foundation for an individual house or cottage. For low-rise construction, products of small sizes are used, which makes it possible to manufacture them independently. The result of creating your own piles will be a significant reduction in the cost of construction.

First of all, we study the technical basis. A screw pile is a hollow metal pipe with a support on one side and blades on the other. The product device is shown in the drawing. We make calculations, taking into account the main points: the properties of the soil and the depth of freezing, the pressure of the structure on the ground, the height of the basement, the diameter of the trunk and the number of piles. We select the sizes from the table.

We prepare materials and tools:

• Welding machine;
• Bulgarian;
• Drill;
• Pipes directly suture grades ST10;
• Steel with a thickness of at least 5 mm grade ST3;
• screws.

Circles for the blades are cut out of steel sheets. Then, having fixed the parts in a vice, they are pulled out by blows of a sledgehammer to the desired size.

Blanks are cut out for the manufacture of tips. Their shape should resemble a cone, otherwise the installation of piles will be much more complicated.

At the end of the pipe, a tip and a prepared screw are welded.

At the other end of the pipe, bolts are fixed, on which the support platform will subsequently be attached. Holes are also drilled for a crowbar used as a lever. The resulting product is cleaned, treated with rust removers. Covered with a primer and two coats of paint. Part of the screw pile, located in the ground, is additionally protected by an anti-corrosion compound.

In this order, the required number of screw piles is made. The quantity depends on the built-up area and the pitch between the pillars. The optimal distance between the screw supports is 2.5-3 m.
