Buy sidewalls for a shop. DIY shop: materials, simple and original designs

Many furnishings for a home or garden are not necessary, but life becomes more beautiful and comfortable with them. These things include shops. If you skillfully choose a wooden, stone, plastic, metal or bench made of a combination of materials, then it will become a real decoration in your yard or house, create a place where you can sit comfortably and relax. A group of friends can accommodate large items, and the main advantage of a small shop is its mobility.

Before making a small bench with your own hands, decide: it is intended for a house or garden, what size the product should be, so as not to clutter up the space and fit in the right place. A small bench with a simple design will be eye-catching when made in a bright color or decorated with an attractive mattress or pillow attached to the seat. The product, made with love and taste, will certainly be loved by family members and your guests.

Bench for the nursery

A bench is a versatile piece that will come in handy in any corner of the garden and room of the house. Children's room is no exception. A bench in the nursery is not only an opportunity to sit down, but also a stand, a storage space. Small weight and small size allow the child to use it as an element of the game.

A hand-made children's piece of furniture will turn out to be of high quality, functional and inexpensive. Effort and work will be appreciated by your kid.

Tools and materials

 • 1 board 1 × 12 inches (25x305 mm) 5 feet long (1.52 m);
 • 1 plank 1 x 2 inches (25 x 51 mm) 5 feet (1.52 m);
 • 2-inch (51 mm) wood screws or nails
 • environmentally friendly wood glue;
 • filler for wood;
 • primer;
 • paint;
 • brush;
 • tape measure, ruler, pencil;
 • drill with drills;
 • sandpaper;
 • device for driving nails;
 • a circular saw.

Do not forget to use protective equipment when performing work: glasses and special headphones.

Engage in cutting out the necessary parts or contact the specialists, providing a list of blanks:

 • 2 board elements with a section of 1 × 12 ″, length 12.5 ″ (318 mm);
 • 1 piece with a section of 1 × 12 ″, length 14.5 ″ (368 mm);
 • 1 piece of board 1 × 12 ″, length should be 12 ″ (305 mm);
 • 4 pieces 1 × 2 ″, each 12 ″ (305 mm).

Description of work

 1. Cut out the side supports as shown in the figure below. Sand sharp edges. To make holes in the upper parts of the parts, use a drill with an inch drill to make two holes, then use a jigsaw to cut the space between them.

Attention! The shop is intended for a child, so all parts must be as safe as possible: no sharp edges, burrs, etc. Be sure to sandpaper the surface and the cut.

 1. Use a tape measure to measure from the bottom edge of the 3 "(7.6 cm) on both inner sides of the side bases. Attach a shelf to these lines. You can use 2-inch nails and glue. Wipe off any excess adhesive.
 2. Now add the top of the structure - the bench seat. When fastening, make sure that the part is installed exactly in the center.
 3. Finally, add 1 × 2 planks. These parts fit under the seat and along the edges of the shelf to form the bumpers. In fact, they add support to the bench and serve as an additional stiffener for the structure. Use glue, nails, or screws to secure the parts to the locations shown in the image.
 4. Fill in any irregularities and holes on the product with a special wood filler. Let it dry. Apply additional wood filler if necessary.
 5. Sand the wood ends with sandpaper. Use a sander to level the surfaces.
 6. Remove sanding dust from work surfaces. Wipe the bench with a clean, damp sponge or cloth.
 7. Cover the product with a layer of primer. Leave until the product dries.
 8. Paint the children's wooden bench with light or bright paint.

Small rustic bench

What could be easier than a small rustic wooden bench. It is stable, lightweight, so it is convenient not only to sit on it, but also to use it as a stand for flowerpots with flowers. And by painting it red, you will add brightness to your interior or exterior of the house.

What you need to work

For the bench you need to purchase:

 • 1 bar in the section 2x2 inches (5.1x5.1 cm) long 8 feet (2.44 m);
 • 2 beams 1x3 (1.5 x 7.6 cm) 8 feet long (2.44 m);
 • 1 plank 1 × 2 (1.5x5.1 cm) 8 feet long (2.44 m);
 • 1 board 1x4 (1.5x 10.2 cm) 8 feet long (2.44 m);
 • 1 board 1x12 (1.5x30.5 cm) 30 ″ (76.2 cm);
 • 2 "(5.1 cm) and 2.5" (6.4 cm) screws or screws for pocket holes;
 • joiner's glue;
 • wood filler;
 • sandpaper 120;
 • finishing materials (primer, paint of your chosen color, or varnish);
 • brushes.

When doing the work, you will need the following tools and accessories:

 • roulette;
 • square;
 • device for pocket holes;
 • simple pencil;
 • drill, drill;
 • a circular saw;
 • grinder, building level;
 • eye and ear protection glasses and earmuffs.

Prepare parts for the bench from the prepared wood material in accordance with the list. Also, for cutting parts, you can contact a carpentry shop or order cutting at the place of purchase of boards.

 • 4 pieces for 2x2 lumber legs 17.25 "(43.8 cm) long. Make parallel 5-degree bevels at both ends of each piece. Since the parts should be inclined from the center during installation, mark the corner of each workpiece closest to the center of the product. This will help avoid assembly errors.
 • 2 blanks 1x3 7 "(17.9 cm). Make 5-degree non-parallel bevels at both ends of the parts.
 • 2 elements 1х3 each 9.25 "(235 mm). Both ends of the parts must be 5-degree non-parallel bevels.
 • 2 blanks from a bar with a section of 1x3, length 24 "(61 cm). Make the ends of the parts with non-parallel bevels at an angle of 5 degrees.
 • 2 elements 1x2 by 48 "(121.9 cm). You can simply cut the 1x2 bar in half into two equal parts.
 • 1 piece for 1x12 seat, 30 "(76.2 cm) long.

Prepare a place for assembling parts. Choose a flat, hard surface for this. Clean it from dirt and unnecessary items.

Description of work

 1. Begin the work of assembling the bench from forming the end bases. Use the image below. Prepare pocket holes in advance. We will fasten the screws and glue, so apply glue to the joints before installing the screws. Check the correct position of the marked parts, make connections.

Using woodworking or any other adhesive to strengthen the structure, wipe off any excess product as soon as it appears. So your product will turn out neat, and there will be no problems when applying paint.

 1. Proceed with the installation of the side rails under the seat so that the support section under the seat is ready. Use screws (2 for each joint) and glue.
 2. Flip the bench. On the inside, on the top and bottom horizontal planks, use a tape measure to find the midpoints. Check these places.
 3. Take one of the 48 ″ pieces of 1 × 2 cut in half, attach one end to the middle of the lower horizontal plank of the side base, the other end to the middle of the upper horizontal plank of the opposite base. To fit a part of the cross mount, mark the part accordingly. Cut off excess with a circular saw. Check that the bevel on the part remains at 5 degrees.
 4. Prepare pocket holes for installation on the cross bar. Make 2 at each end. Attach the part with glue and screws.
 5. Do the same for the second part of the cruciform mount.
 6. To align the bench seat part, measure and mark the center points of the base and upper workpiece. Prepare screw holes. Attach the piece with glue and screws to the base.

The bench is assembled, it remains to complete the finishing.

 1. Apply wood filler to holes and irregularities in the wood of the bench. Set aside work until the compound is completely dry.
 2. Use an emery paper or sander to level all accessible bench surfaces. Wipe off dust from the product.
 3. Apply a coat of primer to the bench. It will increase the resistance of the wood to external influences. Such processing is especially necessary for wooden products that will be used outdoors.
 4. Once dry, use as finishing varnish or several coats of paint, the color of which suits you best. In our project, preference is given to a rich red tone.

detailed instructions

 1. First, assemble the two side pieces. Secure parts with pocket screws and glue. Pay attention to the way the lower parts are located - the offset occurs by the size of the curly protrusions.
 2. Attach 2 "x 2" legs to the sides of each piece with 1.25 "pocket screws.
 3. Now add the front decorative piece to the top edge of the front part with glue and screws. Remember that you need to make two mirror-like designs.
 4. Attach the top bar. Use screws and glue.
 5. To make the outside more beautiful, add a beveled plank around the edge of the panel. Carefully trim the parts at 45 degree corners. Use glue and nails for fastening.
 6. Now we start to combine the two end parts, this will allow us to start making the bench itself. Use screw pocket connections on the back.
 7. Add facade details with glue and screws. The top bar should be level with the bench seat.
 8. Install slats to slide the drawer inside on both sides of the structure.
 9. Now assemble the drawer so that it is sized to slide freely when opening / closing. Subtract 4-7 mm from the dimensions of the cavity - this will be the size of the finished box.
 10. Place the front panel on the drawer. Make sure there is a small gap around the panel when you install the box into the bench cavity.
 11. Assemble the seat using pocket screw connections. Then attach it to the bench with 1.25 ″ screws. Do not forget to use glue to strengthen the structure.
 12. To the back of the vintage bench, nail and glue the plywood back. Drive each next nail no further than 10-12 cm from the previous one.
 13. Fill all holes with wood filler and let dry. Apply additional coats of wood filler if necessary.
 14. Sand the product with gritty emery paper.
 15. Remove any sanding residue on the work surfaces. Wipe off the project with a clean damp cloth.
 16. Use a wood primer or conditioner.
 1. Paint the vintage bench with the paint of your choice, add additional decor if desired.
 2. When finished, drill holes in the front of the drawer. Install the prepared handles.

Garden benches are the most popular small architectural forms. They can be made of any size and design, but in addition to their direct purpose, benches also perform a decorative function. You can make a garden bench for yourself using our drawings and photographs.

How to make a bench from "waste" materials

The easiest way to make a bench is made of wood. It is a traditional material for garden furniture, affordable and easy to process. But in this case, you can save money by choosing as the main material the one that literally lies under your feet.

The first option is trees, poles and stumps from their own site or a nearby forest plantation, in which sanitary felling is carried out.

After carefully cutting off a couple of medium-sized stumps, you can put them on the base of the bench. Make the lower crossbar from the poles for structural rigidity. And for sitting, dissolve part of the trunk on a circular. If there is no equipment for longitudinal sawing, then you can take an unedged board with a thickness of 75 mm.

In this example, the bench is already more comfortable - in addition to the seat, it also has a backrest. The model is a little more complicated, since you will have to find a higher part of the trunk and process it in two steps - first, make a profile cut with a "ledge", and then dissolve the workpiece in two halves.

And to assemble the next bench, you will need:

 • two short logs of the same diameter for the base;
 • two medium-thick poles for back support;
 • one long log, sawn in two halves (for seat and back).

In short logs, you need to choose a groove so that a long log fits into it. Then the seat is fixed in the grooves, and each rail is fixed at two points - to the base and the seat. For fastening, it is better to choose powerful self-tapping bolts for wood.

Another budget material for a country bench is pallets (wooden pallets). But for making garden furniture fit not any pallet. Ideally, you need a so-called Euro pallet from a good edged board, which can be recognized by the EUR marking.

In principle, the standard width of the euro pallet is somewhat large for a seat - 80 cm. You can shorten it to 67 cm by cutting it along the contour of the central bar. But you don't have to. Here are some examples of simple designs with different base and seat options:

1. Bench of four pallets, uncut in width. Three serve as the base, and the fourth serves as the back. At the pallet for the backrest, you will have to remove some of the support bars, and ensure the rigidity of the bench using wooden slats.

2. In this case, four pallets are also used, but already cut. To fix the back, three ropes are used, braided obliquely, and for decoration - wallpaper nails.

3. This bench is made of just two pallets. One whole, and the second cut and, as it were, bent at an angle - it serves both as a seat and a back. The design is good for its mobility - there are small wheels as legs.

Perhaps the only inconvenience of using euro pallets as source material - this is standard sizes 80x120 cm. To some extent, they limit the possibilities for creativity. The use of ordinary lumber (boards, bars and beams) allows you to make a bench for a summer residence for every taste.

Board and bar

It should be said right away that any drawing of a bench can be adjusted for specific conditions. The only limitation is that the thickness of the board and the cross-section of the bar are sufficient to fulfill the bearing properties.

Below is a drawing of the bench, which is made of only three "paired" elements:

 • seat and back;
 • short support ( hind leg) from a board in the form of a trapezoid;
 • long support (front leg).

1- front leg; 2 - back leg; 3 - seat; 4 - back; 5 is a front view; 6 - side view

The result is a stable structure with a triangle at the base and two transverse stiffeners.

This is how this bench looks "live".

In this drawing, the bench is in a more complex design. To make it, you need a 40x140 mm board (supports, back and seat), a 40x70 mm bar (short bundles of supports) and a 20 mm board (a long bundle between the sides).

And this is the same structure, but using a board and a bar 75 mm thick. Small differences in the base and fastening of the ligaments are not fundamental.

In principle, there is only one condition - the boards in the seat are fixed with a small gap, sufficient to compensate for the expansion of the tree at high humidity.

Large forms

Wooden benches in a "large format" look original.

For example, here is such a "thick" unedged board across the entire width of the log. Coated with a transparent varnish, it conveys the natural beauty of wood with all color transitions.

From a rounded log, you can build not only a summer cottage or a bathhouse, but also such a garden bench.

And from a bar you can assemble an original chair that can serve not only under a canopy, but also outdoors - removable pillows can be easily brought into the house in bad weather.

Stone and wood

A stone, like a tree, also organically fits into the landscape of a suburban area. Of course, a flat slab is practically not found in nature, but sawn stone can be used.

The next option is simpler in execution - the bench is made of small blocks of wild stone. And since such a surface is not only cold, but also uneven, then you cannot do without pillows.

Pillows add comfort, but they have to be carried in and out all the time. That is why wood is used for seating in garden benches, regardless of the base material. This is how such an original bench, at the base of which a gabion is used (a mesh cage filled with stone, rubble or pebbles).

Concrete is no less popular for making the base of a bench. But it is difficult to make a shape for pouring a complex contour at a time, but a small formwork is simple. And even a "cold seam" when poured in two steps will not affect the strength of the structure (such as in this photo).

Another option for artificial stone is hollow concrete building blocks. It is enough to fasten them together with good masonry glue, and lay a bar in the cavity, and the bench is ready.

Metal and wood

The simplest design benches on metal frame use a square profile.

Can be welded from shaped pipe two sidewalls in the form of the letter "H", and a wooden seat made of solid wood will also serve as a "stiffener".

In the following example, solid wood is also used as a stiffener, but the supports are square with a cross member for securing the seat.

And this is the simplest self-supporting structure of a square profile, in which the strength and rigidity of the welded base is sufficient to make a seat from a wooden block.

The following photo shows a factory-made bench.

But if there is a pipe bender in the home workshop (and it is easy to do it with your own hands), then bend two types of arches and a "wave" from round pipe just. Then the metal blanks must be welded, put on the legs plastic plugs (sold for any profile and pipe size) and fix the bars on the "wave".

Benches and benches in the country and in the garden are, first of all, a place of relaxation. But just putting a bench is not interesting. After all, you can create a beautiful corner. In order not just to relax, but to enjoy nature and the fruits of your labor. There are many interesting ideas. Moreover, often the simplest designs are played out, such that these benches with their own hands can be made by any person whose arms grow from their shoulders.

Photos of original benches (ideas for a summer residence and a garden)

Everybody knows what ordinary benches look like - they've seen it more than once. But the usual - the simplest - something you don't want. Especially if you have already begun the process of decorating the site or are just planning. Why not start with the bench? And there, and other decorations will catch up. One has only to start.

In the garden or near the house, you want to have more greenery: beautiful and different flowers. Flower beds and flower beds are good, but why not combine them with a bench.

What could be easier? Two wooden boxes in which flowers are planted and between them a couple of planed and polished boards. This bench can be placed near the wall, and a couple of long boards can be stuffed on the wall - there will be a back.

Not everyone likes wood beds: wood requires care, and without it, it quickly loses its appearance. It is especially difficult to care for a tree that is in contact with soil. Instead of wooden boxes, there can be, for example, stone or concrete pedestals.

It is quite simple to make such a bench in the country with your own hands. You can find ready-made concrete beds or something similar. You can buy a processed board, or you can do it yourself. Instead of a board, there can be half a log - depending on the style of the site. It is easier to fix the seat with a metal corner. It is attached to concrete with dowels, to wood - with screws from below or bolts through and through.

If someone has large plants in sturdy flowerpots, the following idea can be implemented. In this version, the bench covers the plants. To avoid surprises, the flowerpots must be very durable….

There is a similar version of a bench made of boards and without plants: maybe you need to put it on the veranda or in the gazebo. The supports are folded from boards of the same size, and the seat is from a bar.

A bench made of boards - a non-standard option

And more variations on the same theme: hollow building blocks are used as a support. Processed bars are inserted into the holes. This is the seat of the bench. Only round the edges of the timber, or it will be uncomfortable to sit.

For this garden bench, it is advisable to find large blocks with thick walls. If not, you need to securely fasten the blocks to one another. The whole task is to fix the blocks first (for example with pins), and then bars (bolts or dowels) to them.

Log benches

If your site is decorated in a rustic or ethno style, the standard approach will not work for you. It is best to use logs in this case - with or without bark - this is your choice.

Seat for a bench made of logs - sawed along a trunk of large or medium diameter. The back is either a smaller trunk in diameter, or just a cut closer to the edge. Legs can also be made from narrow pieces of logs (see the photo below).

The legs and seats are connected to each other by metal pins: a slightly smaller diameter hole is drilled under the pin in both parts. The pin is hammered into one of them, the second part is pushed in and is also hammered, but they are no longer hitting the pin, but against the wood. So that there are no traces left, they put a piece of unnecessary board and knock on it with a hammer (or a sledgehammer). Such a connection should be completely reliable, but to be sure, you can install two or three pins, or you can cut a little log by making a flat area of the same size on both parts to be joined. By increasing the support area, increase the seat anchorage: the log still weighs a lot.

Backless bench option

Another interesting option in the "ethno" style is shown in the photo above. It is realized in stone, but this bench can also be made from a log. The seat is a very thick board, the legs are most of the large diameter deck. A groove is cut in the deck for laying the seat. If you have a tool (with an ax, a grinder or a chainsaw, you can make a cutout) it is easy to do.

Often a work desk is needed in the country. You can make not only a bench from a log, but also a table. A variant of such an ensemble is shown in the photo. Only the table top is made of planks, all other parts are logs of different diameters or from half.

A greater degree of processing is inherent in the next bench in the same style. The back, legs, armrests are made of thick and not very branches, the seat is made of sanded and processed (peeled and polished) unedged boards.

Another bench is almost also made. Only the boards and branches are located in a different direction and a different look is obtained. A DIY bench of this type does not require much skill. In this case, the more carelessly the work turns out, the more decorative the result.

A resting area and bench can be made around the tree. The constructions are simple, it is so easy to make the flooring.

The rest group can be supplemented with a swing and a gazebo. And above the bench, you can put a pergola - this is the "progenitor" of the usual arch - one of the types of light arbor. And for relaxation to be completely complete, you can make a pond, fountain or waterfall.

Of metal and wood

Few people will put completely metal benches in their country house. They, of course, can be very beautiful, but in summer they heat up to incredible temperatures, and if it gets a little colder, you cannot sit on them, as they are too cold. Metal and wood benches are devoid of these drawbacks. Legs and supporting structure are made of metal, and the seat and back (if any) are made of wood. Moreover, there are also interesting shops in modern design.

Rectangles are welded from the profile, jumpers are welded to the side walls, on which the seat boards rest. Simple, stylish, reliable, functional.

In a more advanced form - with armrests, a backrest, soft cushions on the seat, such a design may look like in the photo. The wide seat turns the bench into a sofa, while pillows - upholstered furniture foam rubber - add comfort. The tables are made in the same style - a frame made of professional pipes and a tabletop made of boards.

One important point: if you are making a seat or tabletop from several adjacent elements, they do not need to be butted together. There should be a gap of 3-4 mm between adjacent boards / planks. Wood swells and dries up. For these processes to keep the surface relatively flat, a gap is required.

If smoother lines are needed - for families with children - you can bend the pipes and make garden benches and a table with rounded edges. This garden furniture is completely safe. An ordinary round or professional pipe is bent, leaving on the sides in the shape of the letter "P" with a wide back. The length of this back is the length of the bench. For the table, the dimensions are made a little larger: the legs and and the back are longer.

Make two identical blanks for the table and bench. Next, the boards are cut to the same length. For a seat about 40 cm, for a table top at least 55 cm. Attached to pipes with furniture bolts with a flat head. To prevent the hats from sticking out, a hole of a slightly larger diameter is drilled under them.

Benches from boards

The most numerous group is benches and benches made of boards. There are designs that look more like sofas, especially if you put soft pillows on them - and you can lie down.

Garden furniture in modern style it is simple to assemble: rectangles with partitions from thinner boards, interconnected.

Even the usual design of a summer cottage can become exclusive if you approach it with imagination: instead of legs and armrests, wooden wheels are used. The result is a designer thing.

And the simplest possible - a board with legs in the form of the letter "X". Such shops were built centuries ago, you can still see them today.

From the boards you can make a bench in a modern style: in the form of the letter "P". With this design, the main task is to ensure a rigid fixation of the legs and the seat: the expanding forces are not compensated by anything. In this case, it is important to take a thick board or timber so that it does not bend. You can put the board "on the edge": this way the rigidity will be greater. To increase reliability, you can install corners from below.

In the photo there is a version with a cut at 45 °. With a miter box or circular saw, it is not difficult to achieve an accurate cut. Precisely joining the workpieces and fastening them together, we get an angle of 90 °. If the seat does not bend, it will serve for a long time ...

From bamboo, and the whole

Or a stone.

It will be unpleasant to sit in winter, but beautiful ...

How to make a bench: photo reports

We will not make benches out of stone - not everyone has equipment, but we can use different pieces of wood. Let's talk about making simple but unusual designs. To make a do-it-yourself bench a source of pride.

Backless bench

The design is simple, but it looks interesting due to the specific material. A bar with rounded edges is used for the legs. If you have small logs, you can trim them on the sides. You will get almost the same effect. Such material is not such a rarity, the legs are unusually collected from it: the bars are stacked one on top of the other flat. This gives zest and adds attractiveness.

This bench without a back has a length of about 120 cm, a width of about 45 cm, a height of 38 cm. You can round off the edges of the timber using a cutter, or you can find a similar profiled one. It costs more, but it will be easier to work with it: it is already well processed and it is easy to connect.

Depending on the found section of the timber, calculate the length that you need. Determine how many bars you have to stack one on top of the other to get the height you need. In this case, it took 5 bars per leg. Total 45 cm * 5 pieces - 2.25 m. 4.5 m of timber was needed for two legs. The seat used a board 40 mm thick and 90 mm wide. For the seat, you need 5 boards 1.5 meters long. It turned out 1.2 m * 5 pieces = 6 m.

First, we cut and process the boards for the seat. Their edges must be rounded. If you don't have a sander or milling cutter, you will have to work with sandpaper, but you can find such a board or agree at a sawmill to have it processed and polished: there will be much less work. So, we cut the boards to the same length, grind and varnish (with or without tinting - your choice).

Fold the leg blocks one by one, aligning their edges. Using a square and a pencil, draw lines where the fasteners will be placed. The distance between the lines is 7-10 cm.

You can take metal pins, or you can make pins - carved from wood. For them, holes are drilled slightly less than the diameter, the depth of the hole is half the length of the pin. Then they are hammered into one piece, and a second piece is inserted into the same hole from above. The connection is reliable, but for confidence you can add glue, although then the structure will turn out to be one-piece.

With a pin connection, the main task is to make holes strictly one above the other, so that the parts mounted on the pin give an even edge. We did part of the work - we drew the lines where we will drill, now it is necessary to measure the same distance from the edge. For this we will create a template. We take a piece of plank with a width of about 1.5 cm. At this distance from the edge of the bars, we will drill holes. Applying it exactly along the edge, mark the intersection with the drawn perpendicular lines.

We will install the pins in a checkerboard pattern, so we will drill holes through one intersection. We also make holes on one bar from different sides in a checkerboard pattern. In a similar way - on the pins - the legs are connected to the seat: two pins for each bar.

Technologically, this type of connection is correct, but it is complex and requires a certain skill. You can do it easier. Fold all the bars one on top of the other, secure with clamps, drill through in two or three sets - in the center and along the edges, connect with a long hairpin, with washers placed under the cap and nut. The legs of the seat strip assembled in this way can be nailed from above or try to make a pin connection.

The bench is made by hand. Finishing work left

If the seat has been nailed down, take some wood polish of the right color, add some very fine sawdust and stir. Coat the joints with this compound. When dry, smooth with a sandpaper. Sand all parts to a smooth state and cover with varnish or wood paints for outdoor use (preferably not covering, but which leave visible the texture of the wood).

DIY bench from broken chairs

In any household, you can find two old chairs. They must be the same and still strong enough. We disassemble the chairs, leaving the part with the back and legs. We connect the two backs using bars of a suitable section.

For greater rigidity below, at a distance of about 20 cm from the floor, where earlier the chairs also had jumpers, we make another frame with transverse beams. It can be used as a footrest or for storing things.

After grinding, paint the resulting structure. This time the paint should be normal: different types of wood can only be painted over with covering paints. Apply with a brush or spray.

The matter is small: cut the seat from thick plywood (thickness 8-10 mm) to size and cover it with foam rubber and fabric.

Chair / bench for garden from pallets

Everything is useful on the farm. You can even make garden furniture from cargo pallets. Moreover, there is no need to disassemble them: we use one for the seat, from the second we will make a back. All you need is well-finished armrests and leg blocks.

In one of the pallets we strengthen the attachment points by inserting pieces of bars. After inserting, fasten them with self-tapping screws from one side and the other.

From a bar with a cross section of at least 100 * 100 mm, we cut four identical segments 80 cm long. We fasten them in those places that have just been reinforced. We leave 20-25 cm on the legs. Fasten with four long self-adhesive screws - 150 mm and not shorter.

It is important to be vertical and keep the same distance on the legs. Then the seat will be level. If there are errors in height, you can try to file it, but then you will have to saw it from above so that the armrests are even. So try to screw it straight. Deviations from the vertical can only be fought by screwing the leg back.

We attach the second pallet to the rear uprights, and on the sides - planks for the armrests.

It remains to cut a piece out of the furniture foam and cover it with a cloth. You can also make pillows for the back. If you are not going to process everything thoroughly, but to make a loft-style chair, walk with sandpaper or a sander, treating all surfaces to smoothness. You can paint it with paint, which gives the wood a dark color.

Drawings of wooden benches

A comfortable and beautiful garden bench will always find its place in a summer cottage or near a luxury cottage. Sitting on a bench, you can admire the beautiful nature that surrounds you, or you can sit down to rest after a long work at the summer cottage. The article will talk about what types of benches are and how to independently build this useful product.

Today, there are many types of garden benches that can be purchased in stores. This could be:

You can still list the types of benches that are offered to us in stores today for a long time. And here the best option for suburban area there will be a bench made do it yourself. In this case, you can be sure that it will be strong, reliable and will serve for a long time.

The main elements of the bench

You can make a bench from different materials, but are more popular wooden or wrought iron benches. They are also more practical. Basically, all benches consist of the following elements:

 • the support on which the bench stands;
 • seat;
 • back;
 • armrests;
 • fastening.

Varieties of supports for benches

Bench supports can be made from different materials. For example, quite popular are steel or forged supports. Often people think that such structures from constant contact with the environment will rust or wear out easily. But this is not so, because today there are metals that do not corrode and practically do not oxidize.

There are also benches with concrete supports. Of course, it may seem rough and short-lived, but in order to add flavor to the appearance of such a bench, you need to turn on your imagination. For example, if the bench supports are made of concrete, then the back and seat can be made from rods. The downside of such a bench may be her big size and fragility.

If possible, you can purchase supports for the bench of natural stone ... Such a bench will look luxurious on a personal plot or near a cottage. The disadvantages of this type of support include a fairly high cost and high weight. In this case, it will be necessary to immediately determine the place where the bench will be installed, since it will be very difficult to move it later.

No less popular will be wooden supports. They are quite strong and durable. In addition, the tree can be used to make DIY garden benches. This material is cheap and affordable. A bench made entirely of wood will decorate the site. But, this material has its drawbacks: the tree can swell and rot. Therefore, the wooden bench needs proper care.

Materials for making the back and seat of the bench

Popular materials for the manufacture of the seat and back of the bench today are considered plastic and wood. You can, of course, purchase a completely stone bench, but it will be quite cold. There is also an option to make the back and seat of the bench from carved sheets, but this is quite difficult and can cost a pretty penny.

Important elements in the benches are fasteners... They can be bolts, nails, metal corners, metal screws.

Wooden bench option number 1

If you don't have a lot of experience with wood, then the best material for making a bench with your own hands there will be pallets. They can be purchased anywhere that sells wooden beams, planks, etc.

To make one bench, you need two wooden pallets, saw, paint, screws, screwdriver, metal plates for fastening. One pallet will be the seat and the other will be the back. First, you need to place one pallet horizontally and move the second pallet to it, which will located vertically... Thus, you get the back and seat of the bench. They must be connected together. For this, you can use metal plates or corners. Such elements are fastened with self-tapping screws and a screwdriver.

Next, you need to attach the legs to the finished structure. They can be cut from small beams. The bench should have 4 legs. Moreover, the rear legs can be made long so that they can fasten the back and the seat, and the front legs should be short. In order for the bench to have a complete look, you can make handrails, and sew pillows on the seats.

Street bench option number 2

The bench will be located between two tree trunks. The distance between them should be 160-180 centimeters. The height of such a bench will be 55-60 cm. For such an outdoor bench, you will need to purchase 3 boards made of durable tree species. The two boards will be longer and the middle board shorter.

First you need to make a blank from the middle board. To do this, we cut off its both edges in a semicircle. In the future, it will need to be installed between two trees, and such cutouts will help to insert it tightly. To beautifully cut the ends of the board in a semicircle, you can use jigsaw.

By installing a horizontally cut plank, you can mark where the benches will be installed. The rest of the boards will be attached to them. It is worth considering the fact that you need to fix the bench in such a way that the trees are not damaged. Each tree will need to install two support boards... Next, you need to make a mark in the center of the board. There will be fasteners. Two support boards will be located on both sides of the tree, and you can connect them to each other using a long threaded rod, onto which the nuts are then tightened.

When such supports are ready, it will be possible to put the middle board prepared earlier on them. Next, using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver, we connect the middle board with the mounts. It turns out a bench. But it will be quite narrow. Therefore, the prepared two boards can be attached to the other two sides of the trees. For this too you need self-tapping screws

On many suburban areas a bench is placed for a comfortable pastime. Sitting on it, you can talk to someone or just bask in the sun. A table and chairs are often placed instead of a bench so that the whole family can have a meal outdoors. These are just a few options for how garden furniture can be used.

.

Recently, multifunctional transformer-type furniture has become popular, which can be used for various needs. For example, a garden bench, after simple manipulations, turns into a table with seats. Simple, profitable and can, moreover, do it yourself.

Nuances to consider

For a cheap DIY assembly, it is better to use wood parts. To complete the assembly, you will need to create fairly detailed drawings that will help you navigate the process. They can be performed both on paper by hand and in construction programs, if you have the skills to handle such software.

In addition to wooden blanks, you should stock up on self-tapping screws and prepare tools: a screwdriver, a saw, sandpaper, brush for processing. There is a fairly simple movable structure with two functional positions: a bench and a table. It moves from one position to another with the help of a special connection.

You can find several different options for assembling a structure with your own hands, but we will consider two. The first can use metal parts, while the second is completely made of wood. So where should you start?

Materials for work

The most common types of wood used in such structures are pine and larch. They are perfect for making a frame. You can also use oak, but it is very difficult to process.

It is necessary to choose boards without rot and defects. You will need blanks up to 2 m long and up to 50 cm wide. For fastening, you will need a lot of small screws, nuts and bolts.

First stage of assembly

Parts need to be made, aligned, shaped, and sanded. A transformer bench can be made according to individual sizes, but quite often they use the value of 1700 mm as the basis for the length of the frame.

The transformer design will consist of three connected parts - a table, a wide and narrow bench. The first bench will be wider, and the second narrower. This is necessary in order for the frame to fold:

 • For the manufacture of the wide part, you will need three parts 1700x120x20 or a one-piece shield 1700x400 mm. Two strips 34x11x11 mm will be used for the legs
 • The resulting blanks are carefully ground
 • The legs are fixed to the bar, forming the letter T
 • The bench should be 450 mm high
 • Boards or shields are screwed onto the bar on which the legs are fixed.
 • A spacer is placed between the legs, which will provide rigidity. It is connected to a similar element on the opposite side using a wooden rail, approximately 1690 mm long

The first part is almost ready. Until it comes to assembling the rest of the elements, you need to check how the bench will support the weight of one or two people. If it has withstood the load, you can continue to work on the second and third structural elements.

Second stage - table top and second bench

The second part of the structure in width will be slightly narrower than the first. Three elements will be used as legs - two, measuring 320x10x10 and one 220x10x10 mm. All blanks are assembled in the shape of the letter A:

 • Two strips of length 320 are fixed to the upper bar of 220 mm at an angle and spacers are installed between them. The distance between the first plank and the second at the bottom should not be less than 300 mm
 • The leg spacers are interconnected. On the resulting letter "A" three bars are fixed, measuring 1691x110x20 or a solid shield
 • The total width of the part produced must be less than that of the first part. To check if the assembly is correct, it is worth combining the benches. If they connect well, then everything is done correctly.
 • The table is made of five planks with dimensions of 1700x270x20 mm or a solid board
 • The workpieces are screwed to the strip 1100x40x8 with a step of 80 mm

The upper part of the bench is ready, now it remains to complete the movable mechanism and fix it between the elements. In order for the transforming bench to change position, several additional elements will be needed.

Stage three - mechanism

As a result of the work, we have three parts - a wide and narrow bench, as well as a table. They need to be connected together with a movable element. When all the details are assembled, we get a transformer bench.

 • Both metal and wooden strips can be used as a connecting piece.
 • It is necessary to connect the upper bar of the A-shaped leg with the tabletop, and then the middle of the T-shaped
 • Instead of self-tapping screws, it is better to use a movable bolted connection secured with a nut

 • The corner of the first bench should be connected to the corner of the tabletop with a short bar
 • The second bench is connected with a long piece to the table top bar
 • At the end of the assembly, you need to check how the connection works

Additional option

There is another type of structure that can be assembled by hand. A transforming bench will have not six legs, but eight. Instead of two A-pieces, you need four.

They differ from each other only in the size of the upper part, which for two blanks will be less than 100 mm. The designs of the shops will be absolutely identical. They are attached using a movable connection. To the end of the workpiece, which has a long top bar, screw wooden detail... It should be installed at a 100 ° angle under the worktop, connecting it to the bench. Its length is approximately half the length of the worktop plank. The connection is reinforced with a spacer.

The second bench is connected with an elongated bar without spacers. This type of construction can be made entirely of wood with your own hands.

The final stage

The last stage of the do-it-yourself assembly was completed and it remains only to apply a protective coating. If the transforming bench is under a canopy, there is enough stain for more protection. When a wooden structure is placed in an open space under the sky, a special waterproof paint should be used. The first step is to paint the table, then the seats and legs.

After painting, you will need to update the layer every 1.5 years, otherwise the tree will quickly rot. The structure is capable of being in operation for about 10 years.

Conclusion on the topic

A hand-made transformer garden bench can become not only a functional household item, but also a part of the garden interior. Parts made of wood can not only be opened with varnish or paint, but also decorated with carvings and other decorative details. Only this should be done carefully so as not to damage the rigidity of the structure.

As a result, a hand-made bench can also be used as a table when needed.
