Bitumen shingle roof structure. Flooring of lining carpets. Features of tiles from different manufacturers

The first thing that people pay attention to when looking at the house is the roof, therefore they are very picky about the choice of the finish. The photo soft tile has a beautiful appearance, a variety of colors, patterns, low cost, due to which the installation of a roof from soft tiles is very popular.

The aesthetics and advantages of soft tiles on the roof of the house

In addition to aesthetic benefits, soft roof there are technical advantages:

  1. service life - 50 years;
  2. excellent sound absorption;
  3. reliable thermal protection;
  4. tightness;
  5. small weight (on average 7 - 8 kg / m2);
  6. wastelessness (ridge and valley elements can be made of the same material);
  7. comparative ease of laying shingles.

Soft tiles look good

An important plus is also that the device of soft tiles is quite easy to carry out on a roof of any configuration (with big amount valleys, mansard, chimneys, multi-level, with original asymmetry).

In this review, we will describe how to make from soft tiles with our own hands, having received a beautiful durable coating.

So, let's begin.

Getting started, it is advisable to understand what the material with which you have to deal consists of.

Soft roof composition

Layered composition of soft tiles

The structure of the soft tile is multilayer.

The basis is a film (lining), which protects the sheets from sticking together during storage and transportation.

A self-adhesive compound is applied to the part adjacent to the base.

In the middle there are elastic layers of polymer-bitumen mass. The main layer provides tensile strength; polyester, fiberglass, or a material of similar properties is used for its manufacture.

The outer part of the tile is made of stone chips with expanded clay granules.

This structure allows the production of tiles of various shapes.

  • It is desirable that the material is from the same batch.
  • The tiles of different batches must be mixed during installation so that there are no differences in color.
  • For large areas of slopes, foil tiles, or shingles with a large pattern, look very beautiful.

Now by choosing suitable material, move on.

Installation of a roof made of soft tiles

The main units of the roofing structure are:

  • solid crate
  • underlay for shingles
  • protective elements of overhangs, ends, valleys, skates
  • ventilation of the roof space
  • soft tiles.

The structure determines the installation order.

Work stages:

  1. preparation of tools, accessories, consumables;
  2. lathing device;
  3. flooring of lining carpets;
  4. fastening of protective eaves and end profiles;
  5. marking of the roof area;
  6. ventilation device;
  7. installation of soft tiles (laying of shingles);
  8. closing skates, valleys.

The roof will turn out to be beautiful and durable if, when installing soft tiles with your own hands, the technological requirements are strictly observed. Therefore, we will describe in detail all the stages.

Required tools

To work you will need:

- construction knife for cutting and trimming shingles;

- scissors for metal;

- tape measure, hammer, level;

- hacksaw, circular saw;

- screwdriver;

- assembly gun for sealing joints and seams;

- a spatula for applying bituminous mastic;

- pitched staircase;

- pencil or building crayons for marking.

Components, consumables

- lathing (OSB board or planed edged board);

- bituminous mastic (or glue);

- lining carpet;

- cornice strips (drip);

- wind (end) strips;

- valley carpet or metal valley (if this element is present in the roof configuration);

- abutment bar (if necessary);

- sealant, assembly gun;

- outlet ventilation elements (aerators, valves, fungi and the like);

- roofing nails, self-tapping screws, lathing nails;

- pitched tiles, cornice, ridge elements.

Sheathing device

Sheathing for soft tiles

The roof lathing made of soft tiles is continuous.

For its device, a moisture-resistant oriented strand board or a dry edged board calibrated in thickness is usually used.

If you use a regular edged board, you will have to do additional work on grinding and leveling the surface.

When laying OSB boards, a gap is made of joints, the gap between the boards is left about 2 mm.

The use of dry planed sawn timber has the disadvantage that the wood "breathes" during operation, so the gap between the rows should be 2 - 5mm.

The thickness of the lathing depends on the pitch of the rafters.

For a standard pitch of 0.6 m, the thickness of the board should be 9 - 12 mm, dry planed edged board is used with a thickness of 20 - 22 mm.

If the pitch of the rafters is 0.9 meters - the thickness of the slab should be 18 mm, dry planed edged boards - 25 mm.

Flooring underlay carpets

Carpet backing

A carpet backing is mounted along the plane of the lathing, which prevents slipping, deformation of soft tiles during operation, especially when snow melts and melts.

With a small slope (up to 18 degrees) of the roof, it is possible to arrange a carpet only along the cornices, ends, ridge and valleys.

For a steeper slope, the carpet is laid over the entire roof area.

The underlay carpet is produced in rolls, usually 12, 15 meters long.

  • The bottom of the valley, if any, is closed first.
  • Next, the substrate is laid parallel to the overhangs.
  • The carpet is glued to the flooring with special bitumen mastic or glue. The joints are glued especially carefully.

Recently, self-adhesive lining material has been used more often. If you buy it, there will be no problem with styling.

On the overhangs, it is good to release the carpet by 2 cm, tucking it under the eaves strip.

Important: Be sure to make sure that when installing the substrate, there are no bubbles or folds on the material.

Fastening cornice and end profiles

Eaves plank

The eaves plank (drip) is a corner element with a stiffener. It covers the overhangs of the slopes.

The profile is fixed on the carpet along the overhang with an overlap of 50 mm, the edges are cut at an angle. The plank is nailed with a distance of 10 cm. Two nails are additionally nailed at the joint.

The procedure for installing the wind (end) strip is the same - the joints are trimmed, nails are nailed along the length with a distance of 10 cm, at the joints - reinforced fasteners.

On this stage it is possible to perform filing of eaves and eaves of the roof (although it can be done after installing soft tiles). The filing is done with a planed frontal board, 20-25mm thick, or with plastic soffits.

When making overhangs with a frontal board, a gap of 2-3 mm is left between the rows.

If PVC soffits are used for the cladding, they have the necessary clearances for ventilation.

Roof area marking

Without professional skills, it is easier to install soft tiles with your own hands if you make chalk markings on the lining carpet.

Having measured the slope, draw control horizontal lines at a distance of 40 cm, the marking is done vertically with a meter step.

Tile marking

Ventilation device

Ridge ventilation device

Any roof must be reliable in the under-roof space to exclude the formation of ice on the overhangs, icicles, fungus on wooden structures, condensate. In general, all the negative phenomena that significantly reduce the life of the roof.

The most optimal ventilation is ridge ventilation. For its installation in the area of \u200b\u200bthe ridge, we will put aerators or ventilation valves, and we will sew the filing of cornices and overhangs with gaps. Providing under-roof ventilation is an important and voluminous topic, so we will not dwell on it in detail in this review.

Well, preparatory work finished, you can start directly installing the soft bituminous shingles on a prepared basis.

Note:although the solid surface of the lathing simplifies the work process, a pitched ladder is required for installation. You can buy it or make it yourself.

Roof ladder

It is made from a bar of 50 * 50 mm and a board of 25 * 100 mm. It is better to use dry material so that it is easy enough to move it along the roof.

The finished ladder is, of course, more convenient, since it is made of aluminum tubes and is lightweight. However, in a purchased ladder, the angle of the ridge is not taken into account, and with large slopes, the length may not be enough.

Installation of soft tiles

Instruction, with brief description the sequence of work, developed by the manufacturer, is included in each package with the material.

Important: prior to installation, the packaging should be stored at freezing temperatures (preferably from +10).

When soft tiles are laid, the installation technology provides for a temperature regime of +5 degrees. If it is necessary to carry out work at low temperatures, use a construction hairdryer.

First of all, the eaves of the roof are laid out. The lower part is laid on a drip at a distance of 2 centimeters from the roof slope, covering the profile, and carefully glued. The upper side of the cornice elements is nailed with roofing nails with a wide head (10mm) and a sealant.

The nails are not set in, but are rammed flush with the coating.

If you did not purchase the cornice elements separately, you can start laying soft tiles with ordinary shingles, cutting off the petals, with a straight edge to the cornice.

Remember to remove the protective film from the inside of the sheets.

After completing the first row, close the valley (if available).

For finishing the valley, a decorative carpet 70 centimeters wide or a metal valley profile is used.

The end carpet is glued with bitumen mastic or glue and nailed along the perimeter with a step of 20-25 cm. The metal profile is simply nailed.

Important: the nails on the valley carpet go strictly along the perimeter, in the center along the axis of the valley they should not be!

The main shingles can be laid in two ways: vertical and horizontal.

  • When laying the tiles vertically, the installation starts from the end of the roof.

The drawing looks most beautiful with horizontal installation, when, after the eaves row, the laying is carried out from the bottom up, starting from the middle to the ends.

At the ends, excessively protruding above the wind bar, the tiles are cut and glued with bituminous mastic to a depth of 10-15 cm.

Endova at soft tiles

In the valley, the shingles are also cut, leaving an open part (about 10 cm) of a decorative carpet or metal profile. The edges of the soft tiles are carefully glued. It is convenient to cut the shingles with a knife, placing pieces of OSB or plywood.

When laying, the elements of the soft roof are glued, pulling tightly. The upper part, in the place where the drawing ends, is pierced with 5-6 nails with a cap.

The next row of shingles covers the nails of the previous row.

Do not forget to constantly look at the markings, checking the lines to be sure that the roof runs smoothly without distortions.

Important: you cannot hit nails in the center of the shingles or close to the edge.

Having covered all the surfaces of the slopes with a soft roof, the tiles of the last row are cut along the edge of the ridge.

The ridge is closed from above with special ridge details.

If you have not bought ridge tiles, then the elements can be cut from ordinary shingles. Usually 3 ridge elements are obtained from one shingle.

The cut strips are placed on top of the ridge, with an overlap of 50 mm, securing the edges of the strips from different sides. Ridge shingles are first glued, then nailed on 4 nails.

All outlet elements of the roof (ventilation valves, chimney, skylights), places where the roof adjoins to vertical surfaces require careful sealing.

Note:
  • Arrangement of the junction points is carried out using special strips or with gluing the upper part of an ordinary tile on a vertical plane.
  • To exclude the accumulation of snow behind the chimney pipe, gutters are mounted.

The last stage of installation will be the installation of snow-retaining elements. Sometimes these elements are discarded for aesthetic reasons, which is quite acceptable.

Proper installation will ensure a long service life. We hope, after reading this review, the installation of a soft roof with your own hands will not cause you any difficulties, and its appearance and quality will delight households and friends.

Market building materials currently offers a wide range of roofing materials for the construction of roofs of private, apartment buildings and industrial buildings. To cover the roof of your own house, we recommend that you pay attention to such an arrangement as a soft roof. It is based on soft tiles - a modern roofing material that has many advantages, one of which is the possibility of self-assembly.

Roof technology under soft tiles

Before proceeding with the independent roofing of the roof with a soft roof, we will consider its correct device. Using shingles implies the following filling roofing cake:

  • Rafter system;
  • Vapor barrier material;
  • Insulation (for example, mineral wool);
  • Waterproofing material;
  • Solid lathing (OSB boards or edged board);
  • Lining carpet;
  • Soft tiles.

In this case, the correct and most rational procedure for actions will be as follows:

  • The first step is the installation rafter system;
  • A layer of waterproofing material is laid on it and ventilation is formed;
  • A crate is stuffed on top of the waterproofing ... Since bituminous shingles are very flexible material, it is necessary to perform a continuous sheathing;
  • Installation of underlayment and roofing;
  • Further, the work is moved to the space under the roof. Insulation is laid between the rafters and a vapor barrier material is fixed on top of it;
  • Lastly, the interior cladding of the room under the roof is performed. If you plan to arrange a cold roof (for example, a gazebo roof and an unheated attic), then point 5 is skipped.

Let's consider some of these points in more detail.

Sheathing device

A soft tile roof requires only solid sheathing. If you plan to complete this task using edged boards, then it is worth considering the following requirements for the quality of the lathing:

  • There should be no irregularities and ledges;
  • It is recommended to choose boards with a large section (from 30 to 50 mm) to ensure greater structural reliability;
  • The moisture content of the wood used should not be more than 20%;
  • Before filling the crate, all boards must be treated with an antiseptic.

When installing a solid sheathing made of edged boards or plywood sheets, it is important to form the joints of the parts in staggered directions and not to stuff the elements tightly to each other, but to leave gaps of 2-5 mm so that the sheathing can "breathe" and cope with temperature fluctuations.

Ventilation device

Requires a mandatory ventilation device, since this roofing material equally does not allow moisture to pass from the outside and from the inside. In the absence of ventilation, the space under the roof will quickly become damp, the wooden elements will begin to rot or become covered with fungus.

Ventilation under this roof is formed by three main elements:

  • The air formed in the eaves;
  • Gaps between thermal insulation and waterproofing materials;
  • Ventilation holes in the ridge of the roof, so-called aerators.

Waterproofing carpet flooring

Every kind of soft roofing material provides for the use of a specific waterproofing carpet, an indication of which is contained in the instructions for the material. It is possible to replace waterproofing only with a similar one in terms of characteristics, otherwise the bituminous cake will not stick together, it will allow moisture to pass under the roof.

Installation of a continuous carpet made of waterproofing material is mandatory on roofs with a slope of 11 ° -18 °. The insulation supplied in rolls is rolled out from the overhangs and gradually moved towards the roof ridge. The joint of two strips must be overlapped 10-15 cm with bitumen mastic smearing. The fastening of the roll material to the base of the lathing is done by means of roofing nails at intervals of 20-25 cm.

On pitched roofs with a slope of more than 18 °, it is possible to install partial insulation in places of special roof junctions: valleys, overhangs, ridge, various junctions.

On top of the waterproofing, solid or partial, a moisture barrier is laid in the valleys, overhangs and around all roof junctions.

It is advisable to select a bitumen-polymer carpet for the valley to match the roof, especially if the installation of metal grooves is not planned.

A little trick

You can markup according to this scheme:

  • Draw two parallel straight lines across the slopes at a distance of 50 cm from each other. It is more convenient to place the lines at the edge from which the laying of the shingles will begin;
  • To these lines, additionally draw marks crossing them perpendicularly, which will serve as a guide for laying the roofing material. The step between these lines should be 25 cm.

Installation of flexible shingles

Laying the shingles begins from the bottom of the ramp with an orientation towards its edge. Elements of the roofing material are freed from the protective strip covering the glue, glued and additionally attached to the base with nails.

The second and subsequent rows are laid up to the roof ridge. It is important to remember that the petals of the next row should cover the fastening of the previous one. In this case, each next row is displaced by 0.5 m so that the petals of each next row are between the petals of the previous one.

Laying tiles on valleys and ridge

The gates and skates require special attention when equipping them with soft tiles. Decoration of the roof ridge and aerator, as one of the ventilation parts, possibly with ready-made metal strips or made from shingles. In the second case, part of the shingle is bent over the ridge and fixed with nails or self-tapping screws.

Installing soft roofing in valley areas requires special attention as these areas are the most common culprits for roof leaks. Endova must be provided with waterproofing and underlay. When decorating the valley, the roofing material is cut, and not folded like a ridge. Fragments of the tiles are glued with an overlap on adjacent slopes and carefully coated with mastic.

Arranging a roof under a soft roof is one of the reliable, attractive and economical construction options. With the knowledge and understanding of the features of the technology for laying soft tiles, it is possible to do this work with your own hands in a short time.

Bituminous shingles in last years has become one of the most popular roof coverings due to its original appearance, which imitates the classic ceramic tiles. The simple technology of fixing the shingles using a self-adhesive layer makes it easier to lay the material yourself, but before starting installation works the roof structure requires thorough preparation. In this article, we will tell you how a roofing cake is installed under soft tiles.

A soft roof is called bitumen shingles, which are made from fiberglass or polyester impregnated with modified petroleum bitumen or synthetic rubber. The outer surface of the shingle is sprinkled with basalt or mineral chips to add color, texture and mechanical strength to the material. Soft tiles are produced in the form of tiles with a figured edge, the length of which is 100 cm, the width is 30-45 cm, and the thickness is 0.3-0.45 mm. This roof covering has the following features:

  1. A light weight. Square meter soft roof weighs no more than 13 kg, which allows you not to weigh down the rafter frame with additional elements.
  2. Flexibility. The material has high elasticity and flexibility, therefore it is easy to fit on complex roofs.
  3. Durability. The service life of a roof with such a coating is up to 70 years, and it does not require special maintenance.
  4. Resistance to environmental factors. The soft roof is appreciated for its high moisture resistance, tolerance to ultraviolet radiation and temperature changes.

Note! It is not recommended to install a soft roof on structures with a high risk of fire, as it belongs to flammable materials. To reduce the likelihood of fires, the device of the rafter frame is performed with mandatory treatment with fire-blocking agents.

Nuances of work

The soft roof is fixed to the base with a self-adhesive layer of low-melting bitumen on the underside of the material, protected with a polyethylene protective film. The installation of a roof made of bituminous tiles can only be carried out under certain weather conditions:

  • The ambient temperature should not be lower than 5-10 degrees, since otherwise the bitumen layer will have to be heated forcibly using a construction hair dryer or a gas burner, risking damage to the tiles.
  • The ambient temperature should not exceed 25 degrees, so that when arranging the roof, the bituminous layer does not melt and does not flow down the slope.
  • performed in dry, not rainy weather on a dried base to prevent rotting of the rafter frame and topcoat during operation.

Important! Store shingles for roofing in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, to prevent the bitumen adhesive from melting. It is not recommended to remove the protective film from the shingle to prevent adhesion of the material before installing the coating.

Base requirements

The device of a soft roof begins with the preparation of the base, on the strength and reliability of which the service life and moisture resistance of the structure depend. The process of making a roofing cake under bituminous roof must be performed strictly in accordance with the technology. The base provides the shingles with the following conditions:

  1. Mechanical strength. The soft roof is laid exclusively on a solid crate, since it is not capable of keeping its shape on its own. Therefore, the base for mounting the coating is made from sheets of moisture-resistant plywood or particle board.
  2. Smoothness. The lower surface of a flexible roof is easy to damage, so the installation is carried out on a lining carpet, however, the base does not interfere with cutting, freeing from knots and chipping.
  3. Smooth surface. Installation of a shingle roof does not tolerate curvature. Any skewing of the battens will lead to gaps between the shingles.
  4. Ventilation. The ventilation gap between the bituminous tile roofing and the truss frame must be at least 50 mm to avoid the greenhouse effect and condensation.

Please note that the compliance of the foundation with the correct technology guarantees a long service life of the roof, no leaks and mechanical damage to the frame.

Preparation technology

The roofing cake, with the help of which the soft roof is installed, consists of a layer of vapor barrier, insulation, waterproofing, counter-lattice, sparse lathing, underlayment and topcoat. The quality of the construction depends on the correct calculation, sequence and compatibility of materials. Roof preparation for soft tiles is as follows:

  • First of all, you need to check the condition of the rafter frame. All rotten elements must be replaced. Re-treat with fire retardant and antiseptic.
  • Fasten vapor-permeable membrane waterproofing over the rafters with overlapping strips. The waterproofing material is fixed with a sagging stapler to avoid rupture in the event of a leak.
  • On top of the waterproofing, slats of counter-lattice 3-4 cm thick are nailed to provide a ventilation gap. Then, perpendicular to the rafters, a sparse sheathing from an edged board is fixed in increments of 30-50 cm.
  • Sheets of plywood or OSB are nailed onto the additional crate, making a gap of 1-3 mm between them.
  • A lining carpet is laid on a solid base, on which a soft roof is subsequently laid.

Experienced craftsmen note that the device of a high-quality, reliable base makes the bituminous roof more durable and resistant to mechanical damage. Therefore, in the process of work, it is necessary to strictly follow the technology and recommendations of the manufacturers.

The use of flexible shingles allows you to give any structure a stylish and modern look... You can carry out the work on your own: there will be no difficulties in laying insulating layers, roofing material. The complexity and duration of the work depends only on the shape of the roof, its dimensions and construction.

Scheme of the device of a roof from a soft roof

How does the installation of shingles begin?

To lay bitumen shingles with your own hands, you will need to create a solid foundation - a rafter structure. It is made from a bar with dimensions of 150x50 mm. The distance between adjacent rafters is about 60 cm. The arrangement of the elements determines the future roof structure. But regardless of the size or angle of the slope, the installation of a soft roof will be carried out without any problems. After the construction of the rafter system or before assembling the structure, it is recommended to process the lumber with an antiseptic.

The next step is roof vapor barrier. The layer is installed from the side of the attic (mansard) room. Fastening of roll material starts from the ridge, parallel to the cornice.

The layer is attached to the rafter structure with a construction stapler. Each new layer is superimposed on the previous one with an overlap of about 10-15 cm. The joints are fixed with foil adhesive tape.

Insulation of a soft roof

Laying mineral wool insulation is carried out from the outside. The first layer of insulation sheets will be located between the rafters (perpendicular to the cornice). Before laying them, you will need to perform a rough sheathing from the side attic space... The optimal thickness of the insulation layer for the central region of Russia is about 15-20 cm (2 sheets of insulation).

Such a two-level installation of insulation practically completely excludes cold bridges.

A layer of vapor diffusion membrane is fixed on top of the insulation. Such a "multi-layer" installation of a soft roof with your own hands will exclude dust from entering the mineral wool, prevent the accumulation of precipitation on the insulation.

The material is laid parallel to the cornice with an overlap of layers of 10-15 cm. In addition, about 15-20 cm of the membrane should extend beyond the insulation contour at the bottom. The material is fastened with a construction stapler, the joints are connected with self-adhesive tape.

Preparation of a ventilation chamber and installation of flexible tiles

The ventilation layer between the base of the roof and the insulation should be at least 5 cm. This is enough to normalize the temperature and remove wet steam. The second layer of counterbeam is mounted parallel to the rafters.

For work, lumber with parameters 5x5 cm is used, the distance between adjacent supports is 30 cm. Fastening is done with gaps of 5-10 cm, as shown in the attached photo. Further work on the arrangement and installation of a roof made of soft tiles is carried out according to the following step-by-step instructions:

1. On top of the counter-beam, a moisture-resistant

It is possible to lay soft tiles on any kind of roof, but it is especially suitable for use on roofs of complex configurations with joints and transitions. It is not difficult to install soft tiles with your own hands, but for high-quality work you need to know some features. We tried to talk about this in detail in this article.

What are soft tiles?

This elastic material is made using a special technology from fiberglass or polyester impregnated with bitumen. Externally, soft tiles are small plates of the most diverse shapes (rectangular or five-, hexagonal), made in the form of rhombuses or ovals, honeycombs, etc.

The use of special additives from styrene-butadiene styrene and polypropylene can significantly increase the strength, increase frost resistance and reduce the thermal conductivity of the tile. Colored stone chips applied to its front side serve not only as a decorative decoration, but also as additional protection against mechanical damage and burnout.

Bitumen shingle roofing

Installation procedure for soft tiles

1. This type of roof is mounted only on solid flooring (crate)... Its thickness depends on the pitch of the rafters: the greater the distance between the rafter legs, the thicker the material from which the flooring is made. As it, you can use moisture-resistant plywood, grooved boards, chipboards, etc.

2. For the roof covering to look aesthetically pleasing, it must be installed perfectly: at the slightest unevenness, the tiles will look sloppy.

Installation of wooden flooring for shingles

Important! Since when temperatures change wood sheets or the boards may vary in size, 3-5 mm deformation gaps must be left between the boards or floor slabs.

3. To extend the service life of the roof, it is necessary to provide for the presence of vapor and wind insulation and ventilation gaps.

4. Vapor barrier film is attached from the inside of the batten and is fixed with nails or a stapler, and then pressed with a wooden strip with a step of 60 cm. The overlap places of the film are glued with double-sided tape.

Laying a vapor barrier layer

5. Residential attics should be pre-insulated. Slabs insulation laid staggered (staggered) on top of the vapor barrier layer between the wooden blocks.

6. For additional waterproofing of the most problematic areas of the roof on the cornice, valley, ridge slope in the places of its break underlay carpet... If the roof slope is insufficient (up to 12-18 °), it should be rolled out over the entire roof surface. It is advisable to additionally process all joints with bituminous mastic.

Installation of underlay carpet

7. The underlay is mounted overlapping 10-15 cm and fixed with roofing nails with a pitch of 15-20 cm. It is undesirable to bend this material. To create overlaps on roof slopes, it can be cut 10-15 cm.

Installation of eaves

9. Installation of soft roof begins from the cornices... For this, it is better to use a special cornice shingles, on which a self-adhesive layer is applied to strengthen the waterproofing. If it is absent, the tiles installed on the eaves should be thoroughly coated with mastic. Additionally, it is secured with wide-headed roofing nails.

First row laying order

Council. Tiles from the same batch should be used for installation. Otherwise, significant color variations may occur. To get an even pattern, it is better to alternately use shingles (tiles) from different packages.

10. When installing decorative tiles of complex shape, "petals" should be laid out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended drawing scheme.

11. Material cutting it is more convenient to carry out with a special knife with a hook-shaped blade. To do this, you can also use an ordinary hacksaw for wood. In order not to damage the soft tiles, it is better to cut on a special board.

12. In order for the roof to look neat, it is better to place on the slopes beacons made of durable threads, which will serve as guidelines when laying.

Installation of subsequent rows

13. Subsequent rows of shingles are also attached to the subfloor with roofing nails. Their caps are completely hidden behind the petals of the next row. The first row is laid, starting from the center of the slopegradually moving to the sides. Tiles are trimmed along its edges if necessary.

14. During installation in the warm season, the bitumen, which is part of the shingles, will melt within several days, and the shingles will self-vulcanize. If the weather leaves much to be desired, to fuse the tiles together, they should be treated with a construction hairdryer.

Important! It is not recommended to install flexible roofs at low temperatures (not lower than + 5 ° С) - in the cold, the tiles become too fragile and may break in places of bends.

15. Aerators are installed to provide ventilation on skates or anywhere else on the roof. The places of their abutment should be protected with a lining carpet and coated with a layer of mastic.

Roof fans

16. To protect the most vulnerable areas of the roof, additional components are used: ridge and valley (flexible strip or curved shingles laid at the junction of the roof planes). They fit simply: a piece of shingle is bent and then fixed with roofing nails in 10 cm increments. With the help of ridge shingles, it is possible to strengthen the bypasses of air ducts, communications output and antenna attachment points.

17. Since leaks are most common in valleys, it is advisable to lay two layers of shingles in such places.

Council. When working at low temperatures, ridge shingles and valleys to increase flexibility, it is better to warm up a little on a warm metal pipe.

Valley laying
