Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is a budget smartphone with a frameless design and “monobrow”. Its distinctive feature is the presence of the Android One platform from Google. The announcement of this gadget took place in July 2018.
Appearance and ergonomics
Xiaomi Mi A2 Light got a metal case with rounded corners. The overwhelming majority of the front panel is occupied by the screen. In its upper area there is a "monobrow" with a speaker for conversations and some sensors. There is a small "chin" under the display without navigation buttons, which have become virtual. The matrix is \u200b\u200bcovered with a protective 2.5D glass.
There is a vertical block with a flash and a dual camera at the back, it is closer to the upper left corner. A round fingerprint scanner is located in the center. The back side is also supplied with inserts for antennas, which are in their places. At the bottom there are holes for stereo speakers, as well as a microUSB connector. But the upper edge received a headphone hole and two microphones.

Display
The Mi A2 Lite has a 5.84-inch screen with a resolution of 2280 by 1080 pixels. It uses an IPS matrix with a progressive aspect ratio of 19: 9, which makes the device a little elongated. The high contrast ratio is complemented by extended viewing angles. The color scheme allows you to enjoy vivid images. On such a display, it is convenient to watch videos and films, or run games, and also browse sites. There are no particular problems with brightness, but glare is sometimes noticeable in sunny weather.
Iron and performance
Inside Mi A2 Lite there is an eight-core Snapdragon 625 processor with a clock frequency of 2000 MHz. The device is equipped with a 3D accelerator Adreno 506. This gadget comes in two versions: with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in file storage, or with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM. Supports microSD cards up to 256GB. The smartphone has a built-in battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh. A full charge of such a battery lasts up to several days of active use.
The operating system Android 8.1 is present here in its original form without any modifications. This device was created according to the Android One program, which allowed it to get a whole package of necessary applications from Google. Also, the phone can count on timely and regular updates over the air. In the AnTuTu test, the mobile device scores about 80,000 points. The performance is high enough for everyday tasks to make it comfortable to use the gadget. The only exception are demanding games with advanced graphics that can run with significant brakes.
Communication and sound
Thanks to two stereo speakers, the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite has a moderately spacious and high-quality sound. In headphones, the sound is quite pleasant, but without additional detail in terms of working out frequencies. The interlocutors can be heard well, but in rare cases the connection can be lost for a short time. The user's voice is transmitted very accurately. The device is capable of supporting two Nano-SIM and one memory card at the same time. There is an infrared port, as well as Bluetooth 4.2 and LTE.
Camera
Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite has a dual camera with a main 12-megapixel sensor and an additional 5-megapixel module. There is laser focusing as well as a powerful LED flash. This camera received 2.2 aperture, so you shouldn't expect miracles from it in the evening. But in good natural light, fairly high-quality pictures with good detail are obtained. It is possible to create a photo with blur. Thanks to the work of artificial intelligence, there is much less noise in the photos than it could be. There is also a 5-megapixel front camera with 2.0 aperture and Beautify 4.0 function.

With the Mi A2 Lite, Xiaomi has managed to create an excellent budget smartphone with decent specs and advanced features. Stands out not only a juicy screen with minimal frames and "monobrow", but also a powerful battery. Don't discount the AI-enabled dual camera that has the ability to blur the background.

As part of a special presentation, Xiaomi has announced two new smartphones. The first is the Mi 8 Lite, which will be released in China as the Mi 8 Youth Edition. In size, the new product is slightly larger than the original. It is equipped with a 6.26-inch display with a resolution of 2,280 × 1,080 pixels, protected by 2.5D glass. The cutout at the top of the screen is preserved.
The sub-flagship eight-core Snapdragon 660 processor with Adreno 512 graphics accelerator is responsible for the performance of the device. The amount of RAM, depending on the version, can be 4 or 6 GB, and this is LPDDR4x memory, and the built-in volume reaches 128 GB. There is support for microSD cards up to 256 GB.
The rear camera of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is double, it has a 12 megapixel main sensor with 1.4 micron pixels and an f / 1.9 aperture, as well as an additional 5 megapixel sensor. A 24-megapixel Sony IMX576 sensor is responsible for selfies and video calls. In both cases, there is support for artificial intelligence, which provides a selection of settings depending on the scene.
The smartphone received a 3,350 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging via a USB Type-C port. There is support for dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS and GLONASS. Whether there is an NFC chip is still unknown.
During the presentation, Xiaomi every now and then compared the new product with the new, focusing on the narrower side frames and the thinner Mi 8 Lite. At the same time, the manufacturer, of course, kept silent about the presence of a "chin" in his smartphone.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite will come in three color options, two of which have a trendy gradient color. They are named Dream Blue and Twilight Gold. There will also be classic black. The modification with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM is priced at 1,399 yuan, with 6 and 64 GB it will cost 1,699 yuan, and the top version with 6 and 128 GB - 1,999 yuan. Sales are scheduled to start on September 25th.
The second novelty was Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, which turned out to be very similar to the one presented earlier. It differs from the latter with an improved sub-screen fingerprint scanner, which is 29% faster and 8.8% more accurate.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro will be released in several versions: with a translucent back panel, in a black casing and also in a gradient color Twilight Gold. Otherwise, the Mi 8 Pro is an exact replica of the original Xiaomi Mi 8. It has the same 6.21-inch AMOLED display with Full HD + resolution and a Snapdragon 845 processor.
The amount of RAM can be up to 8 GB, and the built-in memory is up to 128 GB. The main camera is dual (12 + 12 MP), with optical stabilization and lossless zoom. On the front is a 20 megapixel sensor with support for face recognition. Battery capacity - 3 400 mAh, supported by Quick Charge 4+.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro with 6 and 128 GB of memory will cost 3,199 yuan, and with 8 and 128 GB - 3,599 yuan. Sales in China will begin on September 21st.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite (known in the Chinese market as Mi 8 Youth Edition) has become the youngest representative of the mid-flagship Mi 8 line. The novelty is almost inferior to other models of its series in almost everything, and this is reflected in the price. Nevertheless, it has some distinctive features, one of which will surely appeal to many - the presence of blue-purple and pink-gold gradient colors. Lovers of the classics left a modification in a solid black color.
The slightly modified design in Mi 8 Lite is noticeable even from the front side: the gadget received a relatively small cutout in the display. For comparison, the sub-flagship smartphone Mi 8 SE also has one matrix of the front camera, but the "bangs" takes up more than half the width of the screen.
At the back, the novelty is also easy to recognize (even without taking into account the gradient colors) - Mi 8 Lite has become the only smartphone in its lineup that has received a main camera with horizontally arranged matrices. To the delight of many, the smartphone did not turn out to be another clone of the iPhone X, at least in this detail.
Comparing Mi 8 Lite with its more expensive counterpart in the face of Mi 8 SE, the novelty received simplified characteristics: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor instead of the sub-flagship Snapdragon 710, an IPS-type screen (although all other smartphones in the series use AMOLED-type displays), and IrDA and completely removed. However, not everything is so bad: the fresh gadget is equipped with an improved front-facing camera, the RAM and user memory have been preserved with the same volumes, and the battery has increased slightly: 3 350 mAh versus 3 120 mAh. Considering a less demanding display, an economical processor and a larger battery, the battery life should be longer than that of the Mi 8 SE.

Xiaomi is positioning the Mi 8 Lite as a competitor for the iPhone XR. Comparing the two smartphones side-by-side, the Chinese mid-range does look better due to the smaller screen cutout, thinner bezels around the display, and a thinner body. However, Xiaomi was unable to remove the "chin" (an unused black strip under the screen) - Apple's gadget is clearly the leader in this indicator.
