Which cooker hood to choose. How to choose a reliable cooker hood: professional advice

To keep the air in an apartment or house fresh, without foreign odors, an effective ventilation system is needed. In addition, in the kitchen, it is necessary to quickly remove the smells of cooking food, fumes and soot that are formed in the process. The most productive way is a special device - a kitchen hood. This device is located above the stove and sucks in polluted air with the help of built-in fans. Let's talk about how to choose a hood for the kitchen.

What is a kitchen hood and what is it for

The hood for the kitchen is a forced ventilation device that removes the smell of cooking food from the room, cleans the air from steam, smoke, soot, gas combustion products, etc. It does not allow fumes to spread throughout the apartment, soot does not settle on walls, furniture, textiles. As a result, repairs and cleaning are required less often, and the feeling of freshness and cleanliness lasts longer, and not only in the kitchen, but throughout the apartment or house.

In a kitchen with a gas stove, a hood is needed because it removes the products of gas combustion more efficiently than natural ventilation. But this does not mean that it is not needed above the electric stove. There are fumes in any case - you cook with gas or with electricity. The difference in the required power - for gas stoves it should be higher than for electric ones.

Types of hoods for the kitchen

It will be easier to choose a hood for the kitchen if you know what types of exhaust equipment are, their advantages, disadvantages, and features. First of all, let's define the operating mode. They are of two types:

There are models of kitchen hoods that combine both types (combined), the operating modes are switched with a button. These devices are more expensive, more versatile, but have disadvantages of both types: a powerful ventilation system with sufficient performance and replacement of filters are needed.

Classification by type of location

To choose a hood for the kitchen, you must also decide on the type of its location. With this, everything is simple - we choose depending on where the stove is:

You also need to choose the type of kitchen hood according to the installation method. The difference is the way you interact with furniture. On this basis, they are:

Having dealt with the types, you know how to choose a hood for the kitchen according to this principle, but there is still technical specifications and additional functions and must be dealt with separately.

Technical specifications

After selecting the type of hood for the kitchen, you need to decide on technical characteristics... These are performance, power consumption, number of motors and operating modes, noise level, control type, dimensions.

Lighting is a useful option

I must also say that most hoods have lamps for illumination. working area... This is almost the norm, the only difference is in the number of lamps and their power, but this is also worth paying attention to. This is a very useful option as there is no need to arrange the backlight in any other way. What else can you pay attention to? The type of lamps. More often there are ordinary incandescent lamps, sometimes halogen ones, but there are models with LED ones (BOSCH DIB091K50, NEFF I79MT64N1, IEMENS LC98, etc.). They give brighter light, and consume 9-10 times less electricity.

Performance selection

The performance of a cooker hood is the ability to purify a certain volume of air per unit of time. It is usually measured in cubic meters per hour (cube / hour or m3 / h). To choose a kitchen hood for this parameter, you need to know its volume. This requires the width, length and height of the room. We multiply these data (in meters), we get the volume. For example, a kitchen is 3 * 3 meters with a ceiling height of 2.7 m. Multiplying all three numbers, we get 3 * 3 * 2.7 = 24.3 cubic meters.

According to the norms of SES in the kitchen, the air must change at least 12 times per hour, therefore we multiply the figure found by 12. For our example, it turns out: 24.3 * 12 = 291.6 cubic meters / hour. This will be the minimum performance for this example. There is even a certain margin here, since part of the volume is occupied by furniture.

In addition to calculations, it is worth considering the layout and size of the kitchens. In small kitchens, the intensity of odors is greater. For faster removal, it is worth having a power reserve of about 25-30%. Since in the example the kitchen was obviously small - 3 * 3 meters, we multiply the found figure by 1.3. It turns out 291.6 cubic meters / hour * 1.3 = 379.8 cubic meters / hour. That is, you need to look for a kitchen hood with a capacity of at least 380 cubic meters / hour.

The same or a greater margin of productivity is needed if either a canteen. Although the volumes are large, odors must be removed even faster, otherwise they will spread throughout the apartment, which is completely undesirable. The stock can be 40% or more (accordingly, it must be multiplied by 1.4 or 1.5).

Number of motors, operating speeds, noise level

Air is drawn into the hood when the exhaust fan is running. Usually it is one, but it can be two (for some models GORENJE, BOSCH, HANSA, KAISER). By turning them on / off, we change the performance of the equipment. In addition, the fans can have several speeds. By changing the speed, we more accurately adjust the operating mode to the given situation. This removes odors and saves electricity.

For example, a kettle is boiling on the stove. To remove steam / odor, it is enough to turn on one fan at minimum speed. When all the burners are busy, to cope with the situation, we turn on everything to the maximum. So everything is clear here - the more modes of operation, the more accurately you can control the situation.

When choosing a cooker hood, pay attention to the level of noise generated by the fans. The maximum permissible noise level in an apartment in the daytime is 55 dB, at night - 40 dB. Comfortable 25-35 dB. It is clear that the hood should be as quiet as possible. The problem is that these models cost more.

Anti-return valve

A very useful thing for hoods with ventilation ducts, but they are usually installed in expensive models. This valve prevents backflow of contaminated air in the event of backflow. If there is a strong wind outside, which blows into the pipe, it blocks the gap. BOSCH DIB091K50, NEFF I79MT64N1 and some other models have such a valve.

The good news is that if this valve is not present, it can be installed on the duct. They are sold in the same stores as corrugation or other types of air ducts.

Control type and additional functions

The kitchen hood can be mechanically or electronically controlled. The simplest, cheapest and most reliable is push-button, with or without sliders. There are buttons / toggle switches and sliders on the front panel. We change their position, turn the motors on and off, change the speed of the fans. The same buttons turn on and off the backlight lamps. This control is understandable, familiar, it is easy to repair it in case of failure. The disadvantage is that in order to change something, you have to go to the installation and press the buttons, it is impossible to organize automatic work.

Mechanical control - familiar and understandable

Electronic control is of varying degrees of complexity. There are models with buttons - tactile or touch (SHINDO Aero Duo, HANSA), with the help of which the operating modes are set. There are models with remote control, sometimes it is also possible to change modes from the panel on the hood. In any case, there is a small LCD screen that displays the current state of the equipment.

Electronic control makes it possible to set the timer to turn off or turn on the motors at a certain time. There is also equipment that automatically changes the speed of work depending on the degree of air pollution (sensors). There are models that can be controlled via Wi-Fi from anywhere in the world. It is clear that this equipment is more complex and expensive. With all this, it is more demanding on the power supply - such control is done on microprocessors, and they often fail during surges in our power grids.

Electronic - gives more options

In general, it is not too difficult to choose a cooker hood for the kitchen according to this principle. If the budget is tight, mechanical control will be more appropriate. The type of implementation - buttons, knobs or sliders - you choose based on your own preferences. They are about the same in terms of reliability and price, and outwardly - whoever likes what.

If you pay more attention to comfort and are willing to pay more for it, choose an electronically controlled kitchen hood. Choose the number of additional functions and types of buttons (if any) according to your tastes, as for manufacturers, it is better to choose well-known brands.

Dimensions

To choose a kitchen hood by size, you need to know the dimensions of the stove. In order for odors and steam to be removed efficiently, it is desirable that the hood was not less than the width of the plate, or better - even wider. Some models have a pull-out panel for increased efficiency. It opens forward, covering a large area.

Now you know how to choose a kitchen hood in all respects, all the subtleties and nuances.

The hood is the most important part of any kitchen space, preventing the spread of odors throughout the apartment. Before buying this integral element of the kitchen, many housewives ask a really important question - which hood is better for the kitchen? Let's try to figure it out together.

The selection of the hood should be carried out based on several parameters: the type of its design, control, the noise it produces during operation.

Hood classification

To date, two types of design are known - circulation and flow. In the event that your apartment already has a natural ventilation system for the kitchen, then you should buy a flow-through design, but if not, then a circulation one.

By the type of air purification, structures are divided into circulation and flow

Now let's try to consider these systems in more detail and decide which hood for the kitchen is better?

  • Circulating... These models run air through the filtration system, and, already purified, return it to the kitchen. There is one important nuance in these - special carbon filters are used to eliminate various odors, which should be replaced with new ones after a certain period of time.

Circulation models run air through the filtration system and return it to the kitchen, already purified

  • Flowing... Such models work much more efficiently than circulation ones. Do not forget that such is for ventilation. Flow-through models also have carbon filters (they get dirty less often, but you still have to change them).
Despite the fact that, in general, these structures are better and more durable, they have one significant drawback - for their installation, you need to invite a professional.

With a flow-through unit, the smell is discharged into the ventilation

Having considered these systems, it is still quite difficult to conclude - which hoods are better for the kitchen? Let's go ahead and take a closer look at the most popular unit models.

The three most requested options

To choose the most suitable option for you, you should familiarize yourself with the available range of designs. The most popular are the following:

  • Option 1. Suspended... These are the simplest and most unpretentious models, created according to the "cheap but cheerful" type. Most configurations have only one motor and use ordinary disposable fabric filters.

Suspended hoods - the most affordable and common models

Of the several operating modes of such a unit, the main one is the air recirculation mode, therefore, disposable carbon filters should be purchased for this device (they trap odor and neutralize various small particles). These options are most appropriate in small kitchens.

Hanging models are the best solution for a small kitchen

  • Option 2. Embedded... Many housewives believe that these are the best kitchen hoods. Almost every model is equipped with a special pull-out panel, which is designed to increase the air intake.
Experts recommend purchasing built-in models equipped with two motors, which in itself makes them more productive and better in performance.

Built-in models are equipped with a pull-out panel responsible for air intake

To trap fat, they use aluminum filters. The price of such models is not much higher than the usual pendant counterparts.

Aluminum filters are used as the material for the trap.

  • Option 3. Dome... Outwardly, they very much resemble a dome, from where they got their working name. They differ from other options, first of all, in their design (the use of various materials in the construction) and colors, which allows them to be used in almost any interior. Such models are attached to the wall or ceiling just above the slab.

Dome models are ideal for classic interiors

Answering the question - which hood is better for the kitchen, you should not trust only your eyes. Model design is not the main factor by which all functions and characteristics of the unit can be determined. Immediately before making a purchase, check the dimensions of your kitchen, the dimensions of the stove itself, and only after that decide whether to take you a built-in model, or a suspended one.

In order for the design to fit perfectly into the dimensions of the kitchen, it is necessary to carefully measure before purchasing it.

Additional characteristics and parameters

If you have not yet decided which hoods are best for the kitchen, then we will consider additional characteristics and parameters that will allow you to understand the features of the above types of construction.

Noise level

When choosing a new hood, you should pay special attention to the noise level. The included device, which works like an old vacuum cleaner, will create some discomfort in the kitchen, and if you also like to watch TV while cooking, then such models are definitely not for you!

The noise level that the unit emits during operation is one of the most important aspects that you should pay attention to when buying

For such people, the best kitchen hood is a model equipped with a sound-absorbing unit. Despite the fact that such designs are somewhat more expensive than devices without this unit, they will serve a long serviceable service, bringing the owner (or owner) only the joy of a perfect purchase.

The noise level is influenced not so much by the hood model as by its type.
The most noisy are circulation ones, less noisy - flow ones. Also, it should be remembered that the noise level directly depends on the power of the unit - the more powerful the model is, the more noise it will create.

The more powerful the hood model, the more noise it makes.

Change filters

If you have not yet decided which better hood for the kitchen, we will pay attention to the following indicator. In the event that you plan to operate the purchased household appliances for several years, then you should take care of the presence of filter elements.

When buying a unit, it is better to immediately buy several pairs of filters for it

After a certain time, the filter in your unit will begin to lose its quality and after a few years it may simply fail. That is why when buying a new unit, manufacturers recommend purchasing 1-2 new carbon filters in a set.

Innovation - Convenient Functionality

Which hood is better for the kitchen is up to you! In this section, we want to introduce you to some of the modifications that may interest you:

  • Microprocessors or mechanics... If you pay attention to the hoods of a high price group, then you will certainly be interested in the fact that expensive models are equipped with a microprocessor. They have several additional functions, among which the most famous are interval switching and residual stroke.

The interval function allows you to turn on the appliance at low speeds, thereby constantly maintaining the flow of fresh air in the kitchen

Interval inclusion is a mode that allows you to automatically turn on the device at the lowest speed, which makes it possible to constantly maintain the flow of fresh air in the kitchen. Residual stroke - after cooking, this function turns on the fan for a short time in order to ventilate the room from extraneous odors.

  • Electronics and touch controls... There is a huge number of modes, the ability to automatically turn on and off, more fine adjustment of the work settings. Also, automatic control can adjust the lighting: for example, if a person approaches the stove, it becomes brighter, moves away - weaker.

Convenient lighting control improves the comfort of the cooking process

  • Appearance... The best cooker hood has in its arsenal not only a microprocessor and automation, but also a beautiful case.
So, many companies use the following materials when creating units: stainless and enameled steel, plastic, tempered glass, etc. (glass and aluminum are a chic combination for expensive models).

The constructions are made on the basis of stainless and enameled steel, plastic and tempered glass. This makes them easy to fit into any interior

If you are interested in the best manufacturers of kitchen hoods, then pay attention to the following brands: Zanussi, Krona, Lex, Elica, Falmec.

Choosing an inexpensive hood

What kitchen hood is better to choose if there are no extra hundreds of thousands in your pockets? Here experts recommend paying attention to such parameters as:

  • Control... A high-quality and at the same time inexpensive unit should be simple and affordable (I mean, even an ignorant person can control the hood).

The hood control should be as simple and convenient as possible

  • Accessories... You can always buy the necessary accessories (filters, spare parts, etc.) for a good hood from a well-known manufacturer. As a rule, in the store where you bought the hood, the seller must offer additional components himself.
  • Manufacturer... If the brand of the hood is known and always heard, then such a company can be trusted. Firstly, even if the hood turns out to be of poor quality (which is unlikely), well-known manufacturers give a fairly long guarantee and provide qualified service for their products (repair, installation, etc.).

It is better to give preference to units from well-known manufacturers - this is more reliable

  • Ease of cleaning... According to statistics, only 90% of fat and small particles can be retained by a high-quality filter, when everything else settles on the blades (impeller) and on the motor. When buying a new hood, you should pay attention to the ease of cleaning (you will have to do this someday). A high-quality hood should be easy to assemble and disassemble without outside help.
  • Cleaning the case... If you have purchased a hood made of aluminum or stainless steel, then you should take into account one important nuance - the protective surface on such models is quite thin, so you should use special cleaning agents when cleaning.

In order not to damage the surface, do not use aggressive detergents to clean it.

Finally

We have provided a description of the most popular models of hoods that can most often be found on modern kitchens and talked about their additional functions. If you are still interested in the question of which kitchen hoods are better, then we advise you to familiarize yourself with the photos and videos on our website. Also, we have step-by-step instruction do it yourself.

You look at the old ventilation ducts of houses, the answer spins on your tongue - recirculation. The best hoods for the kitchen of a high-rise building, deprived of reverse draft. We will tell you how to find out why the phenomenon occurs (in the area of apartments). Let us mention the consequences of not adhering to typical fire handling requirements. What is the best kitchen hood? We believe that each case has a unique specificity. The choice is not formed by the brand, the functionality of the device. A big name guarantees reliability.

The appearance of kitchen hoods

Today there are a large number of designs for kitchen hoods. Flat umbrellas, pyramidal, telescopic cabinets, recirculating flat models... There are retractable ones. They are called telescopic. Today we will try to consider the models that have seen the light, the reader will decide which hood to choose for the kitchen among the named ones.

Recirculation hoods

They hinted that recirculating hoods operating on a circular principle are flat, not a dogma. More often you will see models called combined. They work for emission, recirculation. It is important to understand: a motor with a blade takes up space, they are powerless to fit into a small flat body. The counters are full of quite interesting options.

Take a look at AKPO 3060. Flat hood 15 cm high. In the back there is a backlight. The device operates on exhaust, recirculation. According to some reports, there are two types of filters:

  1. Grease (aluminum alloy grill).
  2. Coal (adsorbent).

The first stop fats, the second stop smells. Please note: the kit includes the first ones, the recirculation models are equipped with both types. Grease filters are often metal, washed by hand, with kitchen equipment. Reusable.

Read the operating instructions for details. In contrast to grease filters, charcoal filters are based on the action of activated carbon and absorb odors. Consumable parts need to be replaced periodically. The typical period is six months.

With a power of 160 W, the AKPO 3060 kitchen hood has a capacity of 380 cubic meters per hour. Enough with a typical kitchen (12-15 square meters) in recirculation mode, it will not be enough for apartment ventilation. Unsuccessfully expressed, there is no other word. Exhaust and ventilation systems are not equivalent. When the air is thrown out into the street, a vacuum is created, fresh air comes in through the windows. Similar to forced ventilation. Systems are powerless to replace one another:

  • The purpose of the hood is in the fight for clean kitchen air against odors, grease, burning. In addition to the physiological needs of a person, the interior makes a role. The unit works to keep the ceiling clean and eliminate the smell.
  • Ventilation renews the air to increase the oxygen content, decrease the percentage of humidity.

If the hood breaks down, nothing serious will happen, ventilation will not function, a number of unpleasant consequences follow:

  • Fungus growth on the walls.
  • The deviation of temperature, humidity from optimal, increases the incidence, creates conditions for the growth of mold, the multiplication of bacteria.
  • The formation of carbon monoxide when burning arbitrary substances.

It's unpleasant, do not forget to buy a special grill with a check valve, where there is a number of holes to ensure free air flow when installing the hood into the kitchen vent. When the fan is running, the small holes are blocked, excluding back draft. The hood stops working - the ventilation holes are opened again. The joint functioning of both systems is ensured.

It is worth mentioning the presence of telescopic hoods in nature. They differ in that they unfold. The outer panel slides out of the inner panel to obtain a full working area. More often the models work for recirculation. Take a closer look, thinking about which hood to choose.

Cooker hoods without recirculation mode

Kitchen hoods, devoid of a recirculation mode, are less intricate. Filters may be missing. A thin steel umbrella with a fan mounted on top. Simple constructions come as a set with air ducts, a grill for the ventilation hole in the kitchen. There is no check valve inside; when the hood is in operation, back draft is possible through small ventilation holes.

They have a sophisticated appearance, the outlines of expensive models will delight the eye.

Cooker hoods Coopersberg

Look at the form! The ARPO cooker hood described above cost 3000 rubles, KUPPERSBERG DRS 600 asks for 10000. Incredible performance in neutral colors, stylized as a convection fireplace casing, evokes associations with a medieval castle. The designers spent a lot of time decorating the design. Having bought a good cooker hood for the kitchen - decorate your home.

A bandage of unpainted wood matches the appearance of the product with an arbitrary interior. The 190 W fan is hidden inside the cabinet. The width of the portal is aligned with a standard hob. Pay attention, if the kitchen has a wide model, for example, 80 cm. The hood portal is powerless to cover the surface of the stove.

The maximum noise level is poor. 58 dB is too much, if you do not sit in the kitchen all the time, you can save your ears from constant pressure on the psyche. A pair of halogen lamps will allow you to cook in the dark. One filter - grease. Wash periodically to avoid trouble. The device has a capacity of 750 cubic meters. For orientation, please note: the cooker hood should renew the kitchen air three times per hour. Each turn of the duct, the power drops by 10%. Based on these considerations, everyone will calculate the required thrust. Three power settings are available.

A mode of operation for recirculation is possible, let's say offhand, rather there is a chance to supplement the composition of the filters with carbon. Surely there is a slot inside for it. Otherwise, a chic device will look unexpectedly poor.

It is difficult to know which duct to buy for a DRS 600 kitchen hood. The disadvantage of dealers is the minimum information provided. It is very rare to find sites that explain in human language how the product is installed. Let's praise Bosch and Siemens, which, despite the scanty information, attach a bunch of Russian-language instructions to each product. The options of devices, methods of installation become clear, it is important. There are exotic models that will be problematic to install.

From the information on the official website, it becomes clear that round air ducts will be needed. Diameter 120-150 mm. How to correlate with standard values air ducts of 125 or 160 mm, the installation instructions will explain. It will be problematic to buy pipes for a DRS 600 kitchen hood. It may be worth using a corrugation of 125 or 150 mm. The hole for mounting with a clamp is hidden in the cabinet. If the photo of the site was taken from the original hood (sometimes dealers shove the left one), like a telescopic design.

  • capacity of 750 cubic meters per hour will be enough for sure;

  • pay attention to the width and depth of the hob before buying, make sure: the portal covers the entire surface;
  • determine the installation options;
  • find out the possibilities of inserting a charcoal filter if recirculation work is supposed.

Ventilation does not work

There is no choice in apartment buildings. The exhaust air duct connects to the kitchen ventilation outlet located under the ceiling. It happens that the structure refuses to work. Reverse thrust! You can check with a piece of paper. Lean: hangs without using your hand, traction is normal, the hood can be hung. On lower floors it is more often observed. Otherwise, stop guessing which hood to choose. The answer is obvious - recirculation.

The unit will take in the air from the kitchen, and throw the purified air here. Two examples of opposite price categories were given above, both devices are capable of working for recirculation. Today it is much easier to find a hybrid model than a thoroughbred hood. Today, the question of which kitchen hood to choose is based on five indicators:

  • power;
  • performance;
  • noise level;
  • design;
  • ergonomics.

Of course, telescopic hoods have a specific design, the rest are twin brothers, not counting the external design. Purchase a model with two motors if you want, we are of the opinion, it is necessary for very intense use. Otherwise, it is better to increase the power not by the number of engines, correct selection ducts, tract shape, ventilation parameters.

The corner hood for the kitchen, with an inclined portal, looks curious. Exotics cost a lot, most umbrellas rectangular... It costs nothing to put the unit in a corner. Not everyone can pay 45,000 rubles for one beauty (TEKA DQ90). The rare chef needs unprecedented productivity. The functionality will not please (dealers are too lazy to describe the merits), you will have to buy a carbon filter for recirculation.

The question of which built-in hood to choose is rather strange. Any model can be hidden in the closet. However, the built-in perimeter is equipped with a half-dozen special fasteners that prevent the equipment from falling onto the hob. A skilled owner will be able to build in an ordinary hood.

Ventilation and exhaust are not the same

Some owners of hoods believe: it will replace ventilation. Wrong! Do not completely fill the hole in the kitchen ceiling with an air duct. Requires a special grille with a flange for the exhaust duct, near the ventilation holes. There are a myriad of designs, so as not to get confused, we will add a typical hackneyed one. The hood is designed to eliminate fats, odors and fumes from the kitchen. Ventilation works to the full area of the apartment, removes carbon monoxide.

Russia has adopted a naturally driven design. They tried to build the USSR forever, equipment breaks down faster than a good house. Siphoning slots of windows, doors are not a mistake of builders, it was conceived by designers. Construction and survey organizations are deprived of the right to measure ventilation parameters in old houses in the conditions of installed new plastic windows and sealed doors. The measurements are supposed to be accompanied by opening the window by 5 - 7 cm, how to live if we plug the hole under the kitchen ceiling with a kitchen hood.

The answer suggests itself: you can't do that. The height of the ventilation opening was chosen for a reason, in order to remove stale air as efficiently as possible. Look: the hood has chosen the lower level. A typical hanging height is 80 cm above the hob, with a typical furniture size of 85 cm gives a total of 165 cm. Below average height. A rare bruiser will reach the ceiling ventilation hole from the floor with an outstretched hand. This means that if a lone hood works, the normal process of air renewal in the apartment is disrupted.

Recirculating hoods

The type of hoods that simply throw air out into the street were discussed. Other models have been dropped on the market, passing the flow through a cascade of filters, throwing the cleaned back into the kitchen. The advantage is obvious, there is no need to lay a modernized air duct system, clog the ventilation hole under the kitchen ceiling.

Typical composition of filters:

  • Fatty.
  • Carbonic.

The first fights fats, the second - odors. Dug out in nature catechin based on plant components, cracking down on microbes, are more often found in convectors, dehumidifiers, air humidifiers, ionizers, and other equipment of a similar kind. By default, the kit contains a grease filter (aluminum grid). Reusable will allow you to wash yourself in the dishwasher. It is very convenient if household appliances are installed at home. We change the coal according to the instructions, waiting for six months. They forgot to add an accessory to the kit, after purchase it is inserted into a special slot. The place is allocated.

There is no significant load on the recirculation hood fan, as happens with other models, the efficiency of the device is indifferent to the trajectory of the ventilation channel (absent), back draft, and other negative factors:

  1. Top floor.
  2. Length, structure of the ventilation duct.
  3. The quality of the installation of air ducts.
  4. The number of turns 90 degrees, each reduces productivity by 10%.

Recirculating hoods demonstrate fantastic performance, do not renew the air in the room. We consider the best kitchen hoods for electric hobs. For gas models, the situation is radically different.

Burning blue fuel, in addition to burning, water, carbon dioxide, releases sulfur oxide, which quickly becomes an acid. It is not recommended to breathe if you cook at home for a long time, you need a hood that throws combustion products into the street.

We observe one nuance in the arrangement of the channel. Exhaust pipes of gas boilers of heating systems, hot water are made of refractory ceramics, special acid-resistant steel. Simple bricks it simply eats away with time, the structure begins to collapse. There is another nuance. Long time gas burns, a lot of water vapor is formed. It is customary to add a special condensate collector to the exhaust duct to combat the problem. Otherwise, in winter, the water becomes ice at the outlet of the chimney deflector (pipe), gradually clogs the section of the duct.

In the case of boilers, it provokes a lack of oxygen. Carbon monoxide rushes into the home. Families with animals died. Gas causes drowsiness, death comes later. Carbon monoxide is excreted by the body for up to six months. Binds hemoglobin cells, disrupting oxygen exchange. A sign of poisoning at first is a ruddy complexion. Read more in the medical publication. Treatment consists of blood transfusion. Bound hemoglobin by the cells of the body is produced for six months (too long to wait).

When the cooker hood may not work

First of all, see if there is any reverse draft in the ventilation duct. Set the experiment in summer in calm weather, the conditions are the worst. Take a sheet A4, double notebook, lean against the hole. The paper should be held without the aid of a hand, blocking the flow of air. The opposite happens - the hood should not be installed. The air will not go through the channel, it can rush to the neighbors (Volgograd, connecting the heater: the number of the dead is 4). He who avoids being reputed to be a bastard, be careful not to do so. Although there are no laws on this score.

Why is reverse thrust formed in summer? The law of nature is this: warm air tends upward. In winter, the apartment is hotter than the street. Having sensed the difference, the cooker hood works perfectly. A useless explanation can be confusing. Let's discuss the issue.

At the surface of the Earth, air pressure is highest. The mass of the atmosphere presses from above. The specific density of air is not high; a layer of many kilometers represents a significant mass. Let's build a pipe of considerable height. It is suggested to recall the fantastic film (Alien). What happens when a spacecraft is depressurized. The air rushes out. If the pipe has broken through the atmosphere, the molecules will not rush outward by the pressure difference, gravity interferes.

On Earth, the situation is different, gravity acts. Taking a tall pipe, we will not achieve anything. Factory ones taper upwards. It turns out that throughout the entire district the negative pressure difference is balanced by the air mass, artificially creating heterogeneity. Bernoulli's law plays a role. Inside the pipe, the air is at rest, there is always movement at the height. A vacuum is created upstairs, the drop makes the air rise, not even warm, at an ordinary temperature. Knowledgeable people say: turbines of thermal power plants, even in summer calm, spin at a breakneck speed in the absence of heating.

Reverse thrust upper floors caused by a curious effect: the ventilation system "considers" them as an outlet. The channel does not care where to throw air: deflector, kitchen grate. Improper tract design contributes. If the distance of the ceiling of the last floor to the attic is less than one and a half meters, there is a bend (usually there), the air beats, creates a plug.

The inertia of the mass rushes with smells to the residents of the upper floors. It is most relevant in the summer, when there is no traction due to the temperature difference. To summarize, cravings appear due to two factors:

  1. Temperature difference outside the window and in the apartment.
  2. Bernoulli effect of movement of air masses at altitude.

There is a reverse thrust - the best kitchen hoods will not help. Remember what you said! Ventilation and exhaust are not equivalent. They are unable to work around the clock. The factor of politeness is added: install the best hoods for the kitchen, neighbors on the floor below / above will begin to choke. The fact of reverse thrust must be recorded and reported to the management company. There are special methods to eliminate the effect, not the best hoods for the kitchen.

What to do

We just want to convey to the reader: the well-known Russian question needs to be solved competently. We'll have to re-equip the attic, put an exhaust fan in the main duct (a penny, if you throw off the floors). The workers will come and make modifications to the project. Then think about which cooker hood is better: in a relaxed environment. It will work as it should. Finally, what is a good kitchen hood if there is no draft. Recirculating. The apartment can be ventilated with a suction fan. It will require a cost of 1500 rubles at best, if done correctly. Cover the ventilation hole of the kitchen with a lid for the back draft period.

Manufacturers of hoods for the kitchen will try to convince: the equipment always works, we advise you to approach business correctly!

Several reasons to buy a cooker hood

Desperate to come across a sensible explanation that helps to understand which hood to buy for the kitchen. The question is vague, it leaves a lot of room for various kinds of confusion. The eye is powerless to tell whether fats are being drawn out, whether the air is cleared of aromas. Manufacturers are trying to sell the product more expensive. We know operation gas stove allowed in the basement without ventilation, if a transom is cut into the frame. There is no carbon monoxide, and enough. For this purpose, buy a hood with installation?

Why is it worth buying a Shindo cooker hood, not another manufacturer? Let's call the prerequisites for the solution:

  1. A compelling reason today is the belief that fat will leave the kitchen. Some hoods eliminate odors. It concerns the recirculation mode. The assumptions are correct for the indicated situation. The connection of the duct to the ventilation shaft will be discussed below.
  2. The cooker hood removes cooking odors. You can quickly ventilate the kitchen or apartment at any time of the day or night. If the noise level of the device does not exceed the standards established by law for the night time. The carbon monoxide hanging from the ceiling remains.
  3. After the operation of the kitchen hood connected to the ventilation duct, it becomes noticeably fresher.

Kitchen hood

Cons is darkness. Installation of the device, pipeline, noise, waste, the need to coordinate the design, loss of free space. For those accustomed to a clean whitewashed ceiling, we recommend installing an exhaust fan in the kitchen, covering the vent, do not steam. At the same time, the supply of fresh air to the apartment will significantly improve. The construction will remove carbon dioxide, odors, heat from the kitchen. Minus: the flow area of the ventilation grill is reduced. A common house system without a supplied fan works worse.

Answer the question: does the kitchen need an extractor hood or a fan on the channel grill? The hood is designed to protect the ceiling against soot. Whitewashing over time acquires a yellow coating, it is recommended to use chalk, not an emulsion. The move is not used by chance. It has long been known: whitewashed trees do not sharpen pests. It has turned into a ritual, we believe there will be people who think that the event pursues the goal of beauty.

A good reason to buy a cooker hood is an expensive renovation. The requirement is simple: choose a portal that overlaps the hob area with a margin of 10 cm (stove table). It is clear that you need to cook on the outer burners, away from the wall. The lower limit of the kitchen hood installation is limited. The figure depends on the type of cooker, for example:

Indicative figures, see instructions for details. The area of wallpaper that is not covered by the stove shield and which lies below the kitchen hood portal will get dirty. Fat flying from the pan. The cooker hood is powerless to help.

Features of installing a kitchen hood

The following considerations are relevant to the choice of hood for the kitchen:

  • The size of the gantry of the appliance must cover the cooking zones. It is foolish to buy an Electrolux cooker hood for a wide stove containing 4 burners. Some of the air washing over the pots and pans will pass by, damaging the wallpaper. There is a narrow hood - it is logical to arrange, covering frequently used burners. Use the rest in case of emergency.

The number of filters is estimated by the wishes of the hostess. For example, coal traps aromas, fats are blocked by aluminum nets. Powerless consultants to prove the need for both types of typical conditions of high-rise buildings, reduce productivity. Initially, the system was designed to push products along the ventilation duct. Another thing is the respectful attitude towards the inhabitants of the house, the operation of the kitchen hood for recirculation. Filters are needed, blocking aromas that tend to fill the neighboring apartments under the pressure of the fan.

Ventilation structures, hoods

Put the question differently - how to design room ventilation! The USSR was used to using systems with natural motivation. Therefore, it shines through the windows. Made on purpose. By the way, according to RF standards, batteries are hotter than European ones, the difference is 10 degrees. The maximum bar (70 degrees), in reality the situation looks different. What kind of hood to buy, if the standards differ from European ones, are maliciously violated along the way.

Dyson is believed to have developed revolutionary cyclonic vacuum cleaners based on industrial ventilation systems. It was calculated: by creating a rotating vortex, power is saved, and the cost of maintaining the system is reduced by simplifying the structure of the filters. The USSR followed a different path than over the hill. They tried to achieve savings by reducing electricity costs due to the consumption of heating oil.

Let's describe what is happening:

  1. In an apartment without forced ventilation, the air flow rate is lower; the cooker hood works in more severe conditions.
  2. The draft of the ventilation duct is created by heating the walls by passing air masses. At first glance, the country has a marasmic system: the entrance of the ventilation duct has chosen a bathroom. Hot water pipes laid. It turns out that we warm the street air. Wrong. We warm the walls of the ventilation duct, helping the kitchen hood to push the pillar up. Reduces cooling of kitchens due to the conductivity of the walls, creates draft, in the west, obtained by coarse use of fans.
  3. Air inflow occurs due to leaking doors and windows. When replacing with plastic ones, in our reality, you need to install an exhaust fan. Not individually - by the entrance. A clever one will supply a powerful cooker hood, the waste masses will go to neighbors. There is an option to install supply valves. Don't hit the walls, today on sale you can find separately air supply control devices ... plastic windows to remove some of the load from the kitchen hood. The problem was recognized by the manufacturer and measures were taken. A plastic window for the operation must be perforated, milled. Automatic regulation!

Hood with ventilation grill

In our conditions, we will have to install additional air intake devices. The right choice will be more difficult than buying a hood grille. I have seen the order of the working day:

  • The boss opens the window for 15 minutes.
  • We are waiting for three quarters of an hour.
  • It is repeated again.

In stories about the performance of kitchen hoods, it is forgotten: firstly, the structure of the channels forms the situation, and secondly, it provides for the presence of a fan on the roof that sucks out the waste masses. According to the idea, the products of combustion were supposed to warm the kitchen, not be thrown thoughtlessly outside. Take a hood - for an induction, electric cooker.

The ventilation duct rule described above stops working. The comparatively low heat does not create the kind of draft that overlaps the performance of a commercially available Western cooker hood. Manufacturers mindlessly chase after Western ones, of course. There is no one to create a good system for the operation of a kitchen hood, they have forgotten the experience of their ancestors. Hood manufacturers talk about performance, it is assumed that there is no resistance to taking the masses from the street.

Hood complete with ventilation holes

We discussed more than once the loss of duct paths to the ventilation duct, inside it, the reduction of current due to obstacles - think about it if you are going to buy a mesh for the hood. Negative factors ... grow with an increase in the speed of movement of air masses. The process has a resonance point, the losses are the highest. How to buy a hood for a cafe, if we find it difficult to say the real performance, which depends on many factors. It is convenient to use anemometers. Appliances showing the real performance of the cooker hood, not advertising. The anemometer costs more than 10,000 rubles, it is better to call the masters.

Determination of the required performance of the cooker hood

The next problem is in determining the need for fresh air. There is more confusion, the exhaust system, ventilation are different things. We see the design of the complex as follows:

  1. Determination of the oxygen demand of the kitchen room.
  2. Assessment of the number of visitors to calculate the indicators of the ventilation system.
  3. Correction of the configuration of the supply valves and other elements in order to obtain a minimum drop in power at a given capacity.

Of course, you can launch a frontal attack. Buy a fan for an exhaust, the industrial characteristics of which obviously cover the need. It's just that the energy consumption will be higher, the heating fee will increase.

As a result, the entrepreneur will throw money to the wind. We believe that a rare businessman is eager to engage in the described event. Electricity tariffs of enterprises are higher than those supplied to the population, things will take a bad turn. There are no clear recommendations. For kitchens, we hear tips for renewing the air three times or more for an hour. Practically required for intensive use of burners.

Forgotten the main question - why! The hood removes combustion products, carbon dioxide, the content of which is regulated, smell, fats from the room. Carbon monoxide tetravalent is dangerous to humans, not to mention carbon monoxide. Therefore, using electric cookers, we reduce the required performance. Say: ventilation is in charge of air purification! If separate channels are designed. But show me an apartment that meets the stated criteria.

As a result, it is logical to calculate the required air flow rate from the mass of combusted gas per unit time. For each cubic meter of natural blue fuel (depending on the field), ten times more is required in terms of the volume of a much needed resource on the planet. The volume of air to be turned on to suppress the formation of carbon monoxide. Now let's take into account the breathing needs of the cook. 240 liters per hour, quarter of a cubic meter. Let's say there are apprentices, in total, a cube is obtained.

We determine the burning rate of blue fuel, add up the needs of the personnel, and obtain the required performance.

The next factor will be the finish of the kitchen. In order not to spoil decorative elements, you need to block the hob with a portal of the hood. The calculation of the mass motion is too complicated to be presented here. Consider thermal expansion, put 30%. We will double the resulting figure, it turns out: for the combustion of one cubic meter of gas per hour, the life of a cook, and other servants in the amount of four people, a productivity of 50 cubic meters per hour is required. You can measure it with the help of an anemometer.

It turns out a loyal result, what to do with 1000 cubic meters, which the seller sniffs. Powerless to describe foreign experience, abroad the exhaust flow is combined with ventilation. One device serves a whole studio apartment. And it becomes clear why such gigantic productivity is needed. They omitted the data that air renewal is carried out in order to block the growth of fungi and bacteria. For example, during gas combustion, humidity rises, the upper bar of the parameter is 60%.

The owners are trying to buy an exhaust fan for the garage, on the contrary - to drain the cellar. Moisture is released from stored food, floors, walls, the environment is quickly saturated with vapors to the limit. While the equipment was idle, I did not want to lose heat. To disconnect the path from the outlet, buy a check valve for the exhaust. Eliminates the back draft effect known to fireplaces. The wind blows into the pipe, scattering ash. See, buying a hood light is not the main problem... It is more difficult to understand what performance is needed. We add that modest indicators are enough for a typical apartment, unless, of course, the stubborn neighbor bought more powerful, creating a reverse thrust.

Next time we will discuss how to buy a hood. We hope they made it clear - we evaluate performance according to needs. Otherwise, the money spent on the cooker hood will go to the street.

The question of how to choose a kitchen hood is of interest to everyone who has started repairs in the house. Housewives, who have already managed to make sure how bad it really is without this tool, are especially careful in choosing this technique.

Removing steam and burning is the first reason for installing a fume hood

Regardless of which appliance you decide to buy, all are designed to clean up your kitchen environment. This is done in two ways: by filtering the air or by exhaust ventilation. In the first case, the air is cleaned thanks to special filters that are built into the hood, in the second, the polluted air is removed outside the room.

Why purify the air in the kitchen

The hostess spends 60% of her time in the kitchen; her health directly depends on the state of the kitchen environment. The microclimate during cooking is contaminated with combustion products, the smallest food particles that are released when heated. If the room is not well ventilated, odors create discomfort. They negatively affect the mood of people, they can discourage even the most hungry. Ventilation is one of the ways to combat polluted air. But it is best to trap the gassed air directly above the stove and free the room from it. Kitchen hoods can handle this task.

What model to buy for the kitchen

The performance of the unit is of great importance when buying. This parameter is determined by the amount of air that it passes through itself per unit of time. The efficiency of the device depends on this. According to sanitary standards, the entire volume should be changed in an hour. You can calculate the performance required for your kitchen using the formula: the kitchen area must be multiplied by the ceiling height, the result obtained is multiplied by 12 (the air exchange rate adopted by the SES), the result is multiplied by the potential margin coefficient (equal to 1.3). So, for a kitchen with a ceiling height of 2.5 meters and an area of 6 meters, you need to choose an exhaust hood with a capacity of at least 234 cubic meters / h.

How to choose the right kitchen fume hood

When choosing, pay attention to the parameters: type, size, throughput (performance), control methods, operating modes, the presence or absence of filters.

The size

Its width cannot be less than the surface of the slab. If the size is smaller, the hood is less efficient at capturing polluted air. It is even better if the width of the hood is greater than the width of the hob. So, if the width of your slab is 50-60 cm, it is better that the size is about 90 cm, if, of course, the furniture design allows you.

Working hours

Ask sales consultants in what mode the hood you have chosen can work. This can be an exhaust mode, in which contaminated air masses are removed outside the apartment, or a filtration mode, when it is cleaned and gets back into the room, as well as its operation in both modes. It is believed that 100% cleaning in a room is provided by an exhaust mode. But if you decide to buy a filter, it is better to immediately purchase cartridges and change them as needed.

Filters

They can be coarse and fine. Coarse filters retain grease particles. These are reusable metal meshes that can be washed as they get dirty. The additional filter is a disposable synthetic mesh. It needs to be changed as it gets dirty, since a mesh that has worn out its resource negatively affects performance. Fine filters - carbon. They are bought separately. The frequency of their replacement depends on the frequency of work during circulation.

Control method

Which way to control the hood to choose? It just depends on your personal preference. Touch controls are activated by pressing a non-convex button. Pushbutton control involves pressing raised buttons. Control can also be slider - carried out using a mechanical horizontal switch.

Additional functions

When deciding on additional functions: residual fan stroke, interval switching on of the hood. The residual fan run ensures operation for several minutes after it is turned off (from 5 to 15 minutes), which allows you to completely purify the kitchen atmosphere. Interval switching on provides switching on of the device for a short time (for example, once every hour or two for 5-10 minutes) at minimum power. This is done so that the flow of fresh air does not stop.

Some have an electronic timer built in. It should be turned on at the end of cooking so that the device turns itself off after a certain time.

Almost all appliances are equipped with lighting fixtures. Incandescent, halogen or fluorescent lamps can be used. They are cheaper with incandescent lamps, but appliances with halogen lamps consume less electricity. Replacing burned out light bulbs is easy.

What determines the efficiency of the hood

The effect depends on many factors.

  • From the pressure that the motor creates. If the pressure readings are high, then the productivity will be high.
  • From the regime. If it is taken out into the ventilation shaft, the work will be more efficient than in recirculation mode.
  • An important role is played by the cross section of grease filters, density. The denser they are, the more efficiently odors are removed. But remember that no carbon filter is 100% clean.
  • From the headroom. The most effective mode allows you to clean the air in extreme conditions, for example, when food is burning. When choosing, be sure to pay attention to this parameter.
  • From the size. The larger the apparatus, the larger the area is taken. This means that there will be no large swirls of it, the sides of the kitchen wall cabinet will not shrink due to the hot air.

Exhaust hood types

  • Traditional or classic

It is a suspended hood that is wall-mounted under a suspended kitchen cabinet above the stove. Many manufacturers offer accessories with acrylic grease filters (disposable filters). Such devices operate mainly in recirculation mode. Disposable carbon filters are required to trap fine particles. The smell is only partially neutralized. These devices are considered to be the cheapest.

Devices that have the ability to connect a corrugated hose are more expensive, but they clean the air space much better, and you will not have to spend money on carbon filtration so often.

  • Embedded

They are mounted in a hanging cabinet above the stove. Usually built-in hoods are equipped with a pull-out panel that increases the working area - the area of the air intake. This makes the instrument easier to operate and increases productivity. Such a hood turns on in the same mode in which it was turned off. Built-in ones are usually equipped with two motors and multi-layer grease filters. Built-in hoods are not much more expensive than suspended ones.

  • Fireplace (dome)

They are not mounted wall-to-ceiling above a stove or hob. They are called fireplaces for their domed shape, which resembles a fireplace chimney. They are of three types: metal with glass, all-metal, classic wood grain or finished natural wood... The design is versatile, the shape can be very creative, for example, high-tech hoods

Functional features of the device

Modern hoods are able to remove up to 96% of odors and air pollution that remain after cooking. Especially necessary for kitchens, dining rooms and kitchens that are combined with the living room. In such cases, it is important that the hood not only has a high performance, but also operates quietly enough.

The operation of the device can be assessed as "very quiet" if the noise generated by the motor and the air flow is comparable to a whisper (up to 35 decibels). If the noise can be compared to a conversation at a distance of 10 m (up to 45 decibels), the operation of the hood can be called quiet. If your kitchen is isolated (not combined with a room or dining room), you may not be inconvenienced by an extractor hood, the noise level of which is about 50 decibels (can be compared to a quiet conversation at a distance of 3 m). This noise level is rated “normal”. It is not recommended to purchase hoods with noise levels exceeding 50 decibels. For example, it is generally impossible not to pay attention to the noise of 70 decibels: it is comparable to a loud conversation at a distance of about 5 m.

Check out the body material as well. It can be plastic, enamelled steel, stainless steel, tempered glass, aluminum. In terms of price / quality ratio, processed aluminum is the most attractive. The matte surface of this material works well with many types of kitchen equipment. The aluminum body is fingerprint-free, non-corrosive and very easy to clean. The stainless steel case combined with tempered glass looks very stylish. There are very expensive models that are made according to an individual order, taking into account the wishes of the client.

The hood is the most effective odor trap.

Do you need a hood in the kitchen? Anyone who uses such a technique will answer: certainly. After all, then you do not have to manually disperse the smoke from the burnt food, remembering grandmother's methods, sitting in an apartment for half a day with much less soot. The device is especially useful in kitchens combined with a living room. But how to choose the right hood for the kitchen?

Advantages and disadvantages of hoods without an air duct

Hoods with an air duct discharge the combustion products through the chimney to the outside (outside). Recirculating counterparts do not require connection to ventilation... In them, the air is driven through filters that trap dirt and odors, and then return to the room.

Benefits

If the duct is connected to ventilation window, then when the device is turned off, the air quality in the apartment deteriorates. Therefore, flat and retractable hoods are an additional tool for improving the quality of the microclimate in the apartment.

The ease of installation is captivating, it is carried out using household tools and without special knowledge. These devices are easy to maintain by changing or cleaning filters. These hoods are cheaper. This working principle comfortable in winter because it keeps the room warm.

disadvantages

The carbon filters are changed every 3-6 months, which is associated with additional costs. The amount of costs depends on the frequency of frying and smoking in the room. It is also believed that they are less effective in cleaning the air from soot and grease than their counterparts with an air duct.

Criterias of choice

From the right choice hoods depend on the cleanliness of the air in your kitchen.

Engine

This is the working part of the hood. They are open, semi-hermetic and hermetic. In the latter case, the resource increases and the noise level decreases.

The impeller is the part of the engine that captures air and blows it out. Some manufacturers use a Teflon coating to avoid grease buildup. The use of metal instead of plastic in this part provides more accurate balancing of the rotating components, eliminates the "beat" effect and reduces noise.

Number of motors, turbine

A distinction is made between single-engine and twin-engine models, which affects productivity. Manufacturers offer turbine models. But in the latter case, do not flatter yourself with a plus in the form of high performance.

Control

There are types of kitchen hoods with fully automatic controls.

Control is carried out by a sensor, pseudo-sensor, buttons, remote control. The touch option is inconvenient because it is sensitive to power surges in the network. In the pseudosensory version, the micro-slots are protected, in contrast to the push-button one. As for the remote control, this accessory is a matter of taste.

Filters

All hoods have grease filters. Filters are replaceable and reusable. An indicator on some hoods will indicate that it is time to replace. Permanent filters are washed by hand or in dishwashers.

Capacity regulator

Allows you to adjust the volume of pumped air for immediate needs.

overheat protection

The more metal, aluminum alloy parts in the device, the better... The fact is that the kitchen hood is affected by high temperatures... In cheap models, these materials are replaced with metal-painted plastic.

Power

The parameter depends on the size of the kitchen and the love for fried foods. Define the parameter as follows:

Calculate the volume of the kitchen by multiplying the height, width and length.

Minimum power. The resulting volume is multiplied by 6 (the coefficient corresponds to 6 changes of air per hour required for cooking over low heat).

Maximum power. The resulting volume of the kitchen is multiplied by 12 (taking into account the heat in the oil).

The optimal power is considered to be the one that exceeds the volume of the room by 10 times. So, for a kitchen with a volume of 36 m², a hood with a capacity of 360 m² / h is needed.

It is not recommended to use too powerful models in small areas. This is fraught with rarefaction of the air. If you do not provide an additional flow of air from the street, then air from other rooms, including the toilet and bath, will compensate for the deficit.

Noise level

The noise level in different models varies from 40 to 70 dB. To imagine how noisy it is, it is enough to know that the lower indicator is a whisper, the upper one is normal conversation.

The noise level is influenced by the design of the duct pipes. The fewer folds and cross-sections, the quieter the device.

Additional functions

Additional illumination of the workplace will not hurt.

These "little things" greatly simplify the work of the cook. Modern hoods can be equipped with:

    The lighting system of the stove (ordinary incandescent lamps or halogen lamps are used), especially "advanced" ones are supplemented by adjusting the brightness of the lighting;

    The interval switching system activates the hood at a given frequency at low power, keeping the air in the room clean;

    The residual stroke button, which works for another 10 minutes after stopping the device, allows you to permanently remove odors;

    The protective shutdown sensor turns off the hood if it has worked more than it should be;

    The contaminated filter sensor informs about the maximum contamination, so that even the forgetful owner will not fail the motor part, and fat will not ignite;

    Ultrasonic air density sensor - detects air pollution and automatically determines the operating mode;

The "air curtain" directs impurities directly to the filters with the help of air.

Design

Manufacturers offer the following types of hoods:

  • flat suspended;
  • retractable;
  • dome;
  • tabletop.

Hood selection rules:

Flat

The main advantage of these models is their low price.

The advantage of such a hood is that it does not depend on the ventilation duct and does not cause the need for a duct system. The panel is simply attached to the wall in the desired location.

Classic models absorb only grease as they are equipped with simple acrylic filters that change after 4 months. But metal filters are also on sale, which are removed and washed from time to time. They look quite cumbersome. However, the latest models are equipped with two-stage cleaning systems, and the carbon filter (disposable, subject to periodic replacement) eliminates the unpleasant odor.

Recessed pull-out

Such models are also called folding, telescopic and sliders. The visible part is a flat panel-shelf parallel to the hob. Like flat models of hoods, they do not require special engineering networks. Appliances are built into furniture. Thanks to the pull-out mechanism, the panel is pushed in when the hood is not in use, freeing up space. Such devices are suitable for any interior, since only the pull-out panel remains visible.

The disadvantage is the cost, which is higher than that of suspended flat appliances.

Fireplace

These resemble a hemisphere or trapezoid, part of the chimney to the fireplace. Big size allows the use of powerful fans and filters. These hoods are both recirculating and connected to the ventilation shaft. These devices are recommended to be installed in rooms where an inflow of fresh air is not always possible, with plastic windowsas well as in a spacious kitchen.

The advantages of this design include high performance, cleaning from dirt and odors, the ability to choose a design that best suits the interior. On sale are models finished with natural wood and glass.

The disadvantages are the impressive size and high cost compared to previous models.

Tabletop

This is probably the most unusual type of hood. They are built into the hob. They are installed between the grill and the stove.

Island

Island hoods are suspended from the ceiling.

Island hoods are suitable for a large kitchen, where the hobs are located at some distance from the wall. They are equipped with additional filtration systems. The peculiarity is that they are dynamic when the panel is allowed to reach the desired height. This is a powerful piece of equipment that fits its purpose.

The disadvantages include noise and price.

Brands

Cooker hoods are widely represented.

Traditionally, buyers trust European quality. These are brands Bosch, Siemens, Kuppersberg, Electrolux. These products are priced at US $ 200 (top and mid-range). The price is justified by the quality of components, assembly. Equipment from Poland, Slovenia, South Korea is becoming more and more popular - more budget models.

    Built-in hood - Bosch DHI 665 V 60 IX. Used for ordinary kitchen in apartment building, equipped with 2 motors, capacity - 700 m3 / h, noise level - 59 dB.

    Suspended cooker hood - Hansa OSC 511 WH. Productivity 380 m3 / h, 2 engines, noise level - 66 dB.
