How to sheathe the attic outside. Interior decoration of the attic: ideas, materials, cladding options

The space under the roof is used differently in each private house. Some users prefer to store memorabilia there or arrange dressing rooms, while for others it is a full-fledged one, which is usually called an attic. The history of attic floors goes back more than a hundred years. Many buildings are built with a residential under-roof space, as it is economically beneficial. After all, it is enough just to increase the angles of inclination of the slopes and their height, and due to this, it is possible not to build a full-fledged second floor, which would require a lot of effort and additional expenditure of funds.

Of course, attics have more than just financial advantages over low-loft houses. Also, the advantages include the fact that the volume of living space is noticeably increasing; in the presence of roof windows and small balconies it is possible to achieve an attractive appearance of the structure; the percentage of heat loss through the roof is reduced, due to which heating costs will be noticeably reduced and much more. Separately, it is worth noting that it is possible to complete the attic even in houses where this floor was not originally planned and at the same time it is not necessary to hire heavy equipment or professional builders, all the work can be done even with your own hands. We can say that the advantages of a residential building with an attic are obvious, but what are the options for finishing the attic should be discussed in more detail.

Materials for finishing the attic

The choice of decoration depends in most cases on user preferences and budget, but it is also worth considering the planned purpose of the space. After all, an attic can be not only a living room, a nursery or a bedroom (read more :), but also a dressing room, a plumbing room, a kitchen, and so on. Based on this, it is worth choosing a specific option from numerous ideas. Do-it-yourself attic decoration can be done using the following materials:

The listed products differ in their advantages and disadvantages, and also have recommended installation technologies. To determine the question of how to decorate the attic from the inside, it is worth learning about the features of finishing with each of the materials. The selected materials must have 7 basic qualities.

  1. High noise insulation characteristics.
  2. Low thermal conductivity.
  3. Aesthetic appeal.
  4. Easy maintenance during operation.
  5. Maintainability.
  6. Environmental Safety.
  7. Affordable cost.

It should also be understood that the quality of the cladding directly depends on the characteristics of the selected material, but no less important are the issues of hydro, heat, steam and sound insulation of the roofing system. Sealing and insulation of the attic should be carried out immediately after the erection of the rafters or the flooring of the topcoat on the roof surface. In addition, you should take care of the high-quality exterior of the attic. Only after completing all rough work, you can start decorating attic floor... So, the interior decoration of the attic can have three varieties - wood sheathing, installation of drywall followed by finishing with plaster, wallpaper or paintwork materials and facing with one of the composite products. Let's consider each option in detail.

Decorating the attic with wood

This method of decoration is suitable for lovers of natural motives in the interior. Wood finishes are environmentally friendly, aesthetically pleasing and durable. It is wooden surfaces that can create a special indoor climate. Interior decoration attic products based on natural wood can be made from materials such as:

  • wooden lining;
  • wood panels;
  • wooden wallpaper.

The listed materials are good for the ceiling and walls, but they are not very suitable for the floor. However, if you use this type of lining as an imitation of a bar, then you can arrange and flooring, but it will be better to apply for the interior of natural materials parquet board. Decorating walls and ceilings with clapboard and slabs requires lathing, which can be made of wooden slats with a section of 2.5x2 cm or from special metal profiles fixed directly to the rafter system. The optimal pitch of the lathing is 40-50 cm, while it is important to make a frame around window and door openings. Along the bottom and top edges of the slats should not reach the end by 5 cm. This gap is necessary for installing the floor and ceiling skirting boards. The base for finishing is required to hide the unevenness of the surface, create a strong frame on which even heavy materials will be fixed as securely as possible, as well as for the device of a ventilated gap, thanks to which the wood will retain its high characteristics for a long time.

Decorating the attic with both panels and clapboard requires, in addition to the main material, the acquisition of components. Such as moldings (connecting, corner, end, ceiling, starting) and skirting boards. The specific set will depend on the room configuration. For fixing to the crate, clamps and self-tapping screws are used. Before fixing the lining, it is worth deciding how the strips will be located. In the case of their vertical orientation, the crate should be horizontal and vice versa. Installation starts from the corner and first of all, the corner molding is mounted, and then the lining is inserted into it with the side on which the spike is located. Next, the element is fixed with hidden fasteners to the battens of the crate, that is, a kleimer is put on the groove protrusion and screwed tightly with a self-tapping screw. Then the second bar is mounted in the same way. Important! if there is high humidity in the room, then do not fit the wooden elements too tightly, the gap between adjacent slats should be 1-1.5 mm. The same installation procedure is carried out to the end of the wall as well as on other sheathed surfaces. In addition to the direct arrangement of the planks, you can choose other options, as well as pick up the lining of various configurations, distinguished by the profile and size.

The modern idea of \u200b\u200binterior decoration is the use of wood wallpaper. Unlike stacked panels and individual slats, wooden wallpaper is a sheet big size of elements conifers wood glued to the base. The thickness of such a product is no more than 2 cm, the standard width is 120 cm, the minimum length is 200 cm, and the maximum length is 6 m. To decorate the walls and ceiling of the attic with such wallpaper, it is enough to glue them to the surface with special glue. It should be noted that the lining of the attic with wood allows you to create additional thermal insulation and a harmonious comfortable environment. Experts recommend using light shades of wood to visually increase the height of the attic and its size.

Plasterboard finish

Drywall or gypsum plasterboard is a material in which a gypsum core is located between the sheets of cardboard. Despite the apparent fragility, the interior decoration of the attic with such a product provides high strength and reliability. Drywall is not used as an independent decorative coating, but requires additional facing with paint, plaster, wallpaper, or other similar options. At the same time, gypsum plasterboard sheets can be mounted both on walls and ceilings, and on the floor, using dry screed technology. It is worth noting that GKL has several modifications, distinguished by such qualities as moisture resistance and fire resistance. Installation of sheets on the ceiling and wall surfaces is carried out with self-tapping screws on a frame made of a metal profile. You will also need a special tape and putty to seal the seams. For the floor, the installation technology is slightly different. First of all, it is necessary to lay a moisture-proof film on the floor, then pour a layer of expanded clay, tamp and level it. Sheets of drywall are laid out on an expanded clay pillow, and a topcoat is laid over them, for example, carpet, parquet or linoleum. The advantage of this method of flooring is that the structure practically does not load the floor, but at the same time creates an additional heat and sound insulation barrier.

It is worth noting that finishing the attic floor with plasterboard allows you to create not only rectilinear forms, but also designs of a wide variety of options. After all, the gypsum board is easily bent and processed, due to which any arches, columns, curly partitions can be created by each user with his own hands, without using specialized equipment for this. After the surface of the drywall is leveled with putty and dried, you can proceed to finishing with decorative materials. It can be acrylic paints, various options for wallpaper or decorative plaster, read more:. It is also easy to make a suspended ceiling from gypsum board. However, such a tool should be resorted to only in the case of a large distance from floor to ceiling, since in a low room, the structure will only hide the space more strongly, and the situation will turn out to be rather uncomfortable.

Composite and other finishing

Such materials for finishing the attic are quite diverse. This option includes cladding from:

  • plywood;
  • MDF, chipboard, OSB;
  • plastic panels HPL;
  • plastic lining;
  • siding is vinyl or aluminum.

Depending on the product chosen, it can be both topcoats and a base for other materials. The feasibility of using one or another cladding variation will depend on user preferences, design ideas, and also on the configuration of the room. For example, in the presence of many projections and semicircular vaults, it is quite problematic to use materials with a high degree of rigidity, such as plywood, wooden boards, chipboard and the like. In this case, it is optimal to use more flexible products, in particular, plastic lining, which can be bent at an angle of up to 160 degrees.

When planning to sheathe the attic inside with one of the composite materials, you should thoroughly study the features of each of them. After all, the operating conditions, as well as the purpose of the products, can differ significantly. So, for example, the attic floor in the country can be sheathed with siding, because it is a strong and durable material that is easy to care for. Many manufacturers even offer products designed specifically for do-it-yourself attic cladding. Panels can be manufactured according to individual sizes, due to which the installation is carried out quickly and efficiently.

MDF panels, the top layer of which is veneered with natural wood or bamboo, have also gained great popularity as a topcoat. Indeed, despite the fact that this is a pressed product, it has:

That is, such a material can be called an analogue of wood, but its cost will be significantly lower. Mounted composite materials almost the same as panels or lining made of wood, that is, they require the installation of a crate. Of course, not everyone will dare to completely decorate the walls with MDF panels, plywood or chipboard, because this style is more suitable for a house in the country or for an office device. In the event that the attic floor is given under living room, then it is optimal to combine composite materials with other types of finishes. For example, use the slabs only at the bottom of the walls, and paste over the remaining space with wallpaper or revet decorative plaster... In this case, the floor can be mounted from plywood, covered with parquet, laminate or linoleum on top, and stretch fabrics can be used as the ceiling. The ceiling covering also looks original and stylish in the presence of beams. It can be both lightweight false beams and massive beams. rafter system, decorated in a special way.

Decorating the attic with wood, the best ideas of which will be presented, will help decorate the room. Attic - an additional area located in the attic of a house with pitched roof... It consists of two parts: flat and steep. Currently, it is fashionable to transform this room into a living room. The most traditional material for attic decoration is natural wood.

By itself, the interior decoration of the attic with wood gives the following advantages:

  • additional thermal insulation is created;
  • there is a pleasant microclimate with a feeling of warmth and comfort;
  • environmental friendliness and durability are noted.

Proper preparation for creating a future room

There are a lot of ways to arrange the attic and the choice depends on the following factors:

  • general characteristics of the room (size, shape of the room, home interior);
  • characteristics of the material (price, availability, ease of installation, aesthetics, reliability).

Whichever method you choose to finish the attic wooden house, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work. Following simple recommendations will keep the room warm and dry. Firstly, attention should be paid to the roof, for the absence of any leaks. Then - check the strength and general condition of the beams and rafters, they must be dry, without any mold and rot. This is very important: it will be attached to them finishing material... It is worth insulating the floor, walls, ceiling.

A specific type of tree for wood trim can make rooms look bigger or smaller.

For small rooms, it is worth choosing light-colored trees (fir, maple), which will increase the interior space. Dark and warm shades (pine, larch) are suitable for high rooms and at the same time reduce the area of \u200b\u200bthe roof slopes.

Clapboard as the easiest way to cover

So, the preparation of the premises is completed, now we need a good idea for the design of your space. The number of ideas is huge. It all depends on the function that the room should perform and what combination of colors should be present in it.

Lining - cladding board made of natural wood various grades with groove-tongue and groove joining system. Average parameters: length from 5 to 6 m, width from 5 to 14 cm, thickness from 12 to 20 mm.

Subdivided into 4 classes:

  • "Extra" - wood of the highest quality without any defects;
  • "A" - medium quality, roughness, intergrown knots, small cracks;
  • "B" - quality is below average, curvature is present, the lower part of the groove is damaged;
  • "C" - the lowest quality, cracks, knots.

Before installation, the lining is processed protective compound and varnished. Under construction wooden frame with a cross-section of bars of 30-60 mm and a pitch of 40-50 cm. Fastening is made to the frame with staples or nails, they are hammered into the crest of the element to be mounted. The lining can be positioned in different ways on the surface: horizontally, vertically and even with a herringbone, and also allows zoning a room, painting each zone in its own color.

Wooden panels, or a budget option for wood trim

Wood panels are fibreboards compressed by heating a finely dispersed mass of various sizes and surfaces. Withstand heavy loads. By composition, they are divided into:

  • pure wood panels;
  • MDF panels.

Properties and characteristics are similar, the only difference is in design.

Installation is carried out in 3 ways: using glue or mastic, construction staples or clips, on a mounting profile or nails. Before installation, you should:

  • to withstand the panels for 24 hours in the room where the fastening will be made: this will allow them to adapt to the humidity and temperature of the room;
  • check the evenness of the walls with the building level and make alignment, if there is a need;
  • make a markup for the panels.

Installation starts from the corner with a longitudinal groove to the next panel, the panel is installed as tightly as possible butt-to-side.

It should be noted that on this moment Combined panels for houses are very popular. They are made from several layers and tree species. The main layer is taken from valuable wood, the rest - from pine or spruce. The layers are securely held together under high pressure and covered with wax from possible damage.

Popular decorative wood wallpaper

Wood wallpapers are wood planks that fit tightly together, of various widths and lengths. Average thickness - no more than 2 cm. Manufactured from different trees, each variety has its own advantages, for example, larch wallpaper is moisture resistant, the wood of the African abash tree does not heat up. When choosing a plank, there must be no points and other defects on it, they can lead to destruction.

Before starting the installation, the surface is thoroughly cleaned, then the lathing is installed using wood blocks. The bars should be treated with a special protective compound. The batten should be horizontal if the planks are vertical or vertical if the planks are horizontal. Self-tapping screws are suitable for fastening the battens. The distance between the bars should be from 50 to 60 cm. Self-tapping screws are also suitable for fastening wooden wallpaper to the frame: the fastening will be rigid and durable.

The selection of wooden wallpapers is huge. Using fantasy and imagination, you can combine them, become an artist of your room, give it absolutely any look and style. In addition to naturalness and environmental friendliness, wallpaper will help create a fashionable, exclusive room interior.

Durable materials are used to decorate the walls and ceilings of the attic. It is possible to make the surface of the walls even by using sheets. Then equip the attic interior in any style to your taste. Drywall can hold heat indoors better than plastic and other cheap materials. Finish made of this material withstands low and high temperatures, and it is possible to attach mirrors, wall cabinets and shelves without much difficulty.

Installation: how to sheathe an attic with plasterboard

Plasterboard is ideal for decorating different rooms. It is not expensive. You have the opportunity to insulate the walls with additional materials that will be located between the walls and the plasterboard sheathing. Make noise isolation. This material easy to install and does not require special maintenance.

The attic may be humid. You should take this factor into account and purchase a moisture-resistant drywall for decoration.

First, we carry out preparatory work. The roof must be free of defects and water permeable. Repair the roof, if necessary, so that in the future you will not be bothered by the ingress of water into the attic. And you didn't have to do the skin again. This will save you time and money.

Check the condition of the beams. They should not be damaged by external factors.

Before starting the installation of the finish, the walls and ceiling should be impregnated with an antiseptic, if the house is built of wooden beams. Then dry the room.

Rafter installation takes place in several stages. This method is common. If the finishing room is small, and the distance between the rafters is no more than 75 cm, you do not need to use frameless cladding.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • We purchase drywall sheets;
  • We cut the sheets to size;
  • We attach the trim with special glue;
  • on the rafters;
  • We fix it with glue and self-tapping screws.

Drywall should be 12.5 centimeters thick. If they are thinner, they can bend in some places.

The inner corners are reinforced with a perforated corner. Then we take the putty and seal the seams and fastening points of screws with rafters.

Decorating the attic floor with plasterboard with your own hands

For finishing the attic, many use the frame method. It is reliable and you have the opportunity to insulate the room using special materials. You don't have to use extra heating devices together with heating systems. You can also make acoustic insulation if you live close to the roadway.

Stages of frame installation:

  • We measure the room;
  • We buy everything necessary materials and tools;
  • We make installation of the lathing;
  • We mount the frame guides around the perimeter;
  • We fasten the racks with self-tapping screws for metal;
  • We fix the crossbars;
  • Laying the wiring;
  • We put insulation in the cells of the frame.

For finishing you need to purchase plasterboard, hardware and metal profiles of the required amount.

Then we do the installation of the lathing. We start all from the walls. Its markings carry over to the ceiling and floor. In this case, you should monitor the vertical position of the racks.

It is worth remembering: metal guides are fixed in at least three points. The distance between the points should be no more than a meter.

The racks are attached by metal screws to the guides of the frame structure. The distance should be 40-50 cm between them. The frequency of the crossbars should correspond to the length of the drywall sheets after cutting. Before sheathing the attic with drywall, it is worthwhile to carry out all the necessary communications - wiring, heating systems... It is worth laying mineral wool in the cells of the frame. It is used as insulation. This material does not deteriorate under the influence of moisture and rodents.

If the humidity in the attic is high, it is worth tightening the entire structure with a waterproofing membrane for greater protection.

After that, we sheathe the attic floor with plasterboard of the required thickness so that the finish does not bend from impact. Thin sheets are susceptible to swelling during use. Therefore, you should not save on consumables, then you do not have to change the skin again.

Sheathing of the attic GKL

The principle of lining the attic is similar to the process of installing plasterboard trim in any other room.

To do this, you need to purchase: sheets of drywall (gypsum plasterboard), building level and tape measure, puncher, screws, metal profiles.

Drywall (GKL) has a gypsum core. All planes of the sheet, except for the end edges, are finished with cardboard. Such material has enhanced properties, since it contains special components.

For finishing the attic, sheets of gypsum plasterboard such as GKLV are suitable. They are moisture resistant.

Sheathing of the attic floor takes place in several stages:

  • We cut out sheets of drywall;
  • We attach them to the profile at a distance of 20-25 cm;
  • First, we make the sheathing with solid sheets;
  • Then we install the cut sheets;
  • We produce finishing.

Horizontal seams should be offset relative to each other by / 3 of the sheet width. If this happened during installation, replace the whole sheet with a cut sheet.

You can sheathe the attic floor with your own hands quickly and efficiently. To do this, you need to have all the necessary materials, tools and follow the installation instructions.

Finishing touches for the attic floor

Before finishing, it is worth completing the main work: close up the seams, hide the hardware hats, strengthen the corners, prime and putty the finished plasterboard walls and ceiling.

After puttying, the walls need to be sanded to remove excess putty and make the seams invisible. This way you can achieve a perfectly flat wall surface.

We prime the surface so that the paint can easily lay down on the plasterboard walls and do not absorb it. At the very end, let the primer dry and start or apply paint with a roller.

You can independently equip the attic floor using drywall sheets for decoration. Thus, you will get smooth walls, hide all communications and be able to glue the wallpaper. The finishing of the attic depends on your taste and the style of the room design, which you will choose from ready-made options or design yourself.

An attic is, in fact, an attic space. It differs from an ordinary attic in that it is located in a building with a pitched roof, consisting of: one sloping, and the second - its steep parts. They give the house additional space that can be used as living space. This roof structure was developed by an architect from France by the name of Mansart, from which the word "attic" was formed. In those days, these premises were the abode of students, impoverished creative intelligentsia, and servants. And all because the attics were not insulated, and were poorly protected from moisture. But the situation has changed long ago: thanks to the development of the construction industry and the latest design developments, the attic space has become a full-fledged addition to a residential building. Now, in the attic area, you can arrange almost any room, even a kitchen and a bathroom. Naturally, the methods of finishing the attics and the choice of materials will depend on this. But before finishing the attic from the inside, it is necessary to consistently perform several preparatory work, which we will tell you about now.

Preparation for finishing

A well-made roof of a building does not guarantee that the attic will be warm and dry. To achieve this, all surfaces must be insulated. The technology of these works will depend on whether external thermal insulation roofs during house construction:

  • If so, it will be easier to additionally insulate the slopes: you can simply hem them with fiberboard, clapboard or drywall, laying a thin layer of polyethylene foam or isolon under the crate. It is better to use foil options, they prevent the formation of condensation.

  • Well, if the roof slopes were not insulated, you will need to do this work from the inside. Then the insulation and decoration of the attic will require the sequential laying of several layers, the first of which will be a waterproofing membrane.

  • Fixed waterproofing film counter slats directly to the wooden roof lathing. Only after that it will be possible to lay the insulation stand. For insulation of roof slopes, it is better to choose a soft, and as thick as possible, roll insulation.
  • Slab materials are not very suitable for this, especially if the roof is hipped or with another complex configuration. They are best used for wall insulation.

  • The way of fixing the thermal insulation layer depends on the roof structure. If there is a small step between the rafters, you can pick up a material whose width is slightly more than this distance. Then the insulation fits tightly between the rafters and does not need additional fastening.

  • When the distance between the rafters is large, bars with a small section are used to fasten the insulation. In this case, first, a wire is pulled between the rafters, which is fixed with self-tapping screws, and insulation is already laid on it. It's best to watch a video on this topic.
  • If you use ordinary mineral wool, then you will need to glue a vapor barrier film on top of it, and only then fix this entire structure with bars. It is much easier to use a material with a ready-made vapor barrier layer.

  • When insulating the walls of the attic, you can do without a waterproofing layer, but only if you use polyurethane foam materials as insulation.
  • Mineral wool tends to get wet and rot. It is better not to use polystyrene for this, because it is easily flammable, and when it burns, it is quite toxic.
  • It is very good if there is a gap between the waterproofing and the insulation, which ensures ventilation of the insulation. Doing the work with our own hands, do not forget that all wooden structural elements must be treated with an antiseptic composition.
  • If external wall insulation was performed in your house, then the attic gables do not need to be insulated. But the floor is still better to insulate, especially if there is a dormitory in the attic.
  • For floor insulation, it is better to use bulk insulation: expanded clay or expanded polystyrene crumbs - this is very convenient, and the cheap price of the material allows you to significantly save your budget.
  • The floor is covered with plastic wrap, wooden logs are mounted, and insulation is poured into the resulting cells. From above it is poured with a liquid cement mortar, in which the reinforcing mesh is embedded. There are more than detailed instructions on the construction of such a floor.

When the mortar has set, the screed can be made and the floor will be ready for further finishing. This method of floor insulation creates excellent sound insulation, as well as reliable waterproofing premises. You can even arrange a bathroom or a kitchen in the attic without fear that the water will flow down. An example of finishing an attic floor for a bathroom in the photo above.

Decorative finishing of the attic

Naturally, the interior decoration and insulation of the attic depends on how you will use this room. Most often, a living room is arranged in the attic space: a bedroom or a nursery, although there are exceptions.

Wood in attics

Reflecting on the question: "What is the best way to decorate the attic?" - you start to sort out all possible options. And the first thing that comes to mind is a tree. Most likely, this association occurs because bearing structures the roofs are made of this material.

  • In addition, the attic wood trim creates additional thermal insulation, as well as a unique microclimate filled with woody aroma. No other type of finishing materials can argue with the wonderful properties of natural wood - this is a fact.

  • Board-lining, which is most often used for finishing works, It is the most simple option plating. There are five types of this board's profile, and several standard sizes. Its installation can be done in various ways.
  • The location of the board on the surface can be horizontal or vertical, diagonally, in a circle, herringbone. This creates a certain pattern and breaks the monotony of the surface.

  • Using the lining as a finishing material, you can zone the attic by painting each zone in its own color. The picture above is a very good example of such an interior solution. Columns with a beautiful finish also play a significant role in this.

  • Decorating the attic with wood can be done in another way - using wood panels. They can be made either from solid wood, or as type-setting slatted panels from the same lining.
  • These can be variants of MDF coated with wood or bamboo veneer. As a budget option, laminated and veneered fiberboard panels are used. Wood panels are good for both wall decoration and false ceilings.
  • The attic is decorated with MDF panels if this room is used as an office or a room for sports. It is not customary to make such a covering in sleeping rooms - the interior will be associated with some kind of office. Therefore, they are combined with other types of finishes, such as wallpaper, decorative plaster and painting.

Few people know that a new finishing material has appeared on the construction markets - wooden wallpaper. They are a set of panels made of profiled timber elements glued to the base. Mainly coniferous wood is used for the production of these wallpapers. Their thickness does not exceed two centimeters, with a width of 1.2 meters and a length varying from two to six meters. Such panels are glued to the wall, like ordinary wallpaper, and allow you to quickly and beautifully decorate a room under a tree.

Ceiling beams

Ceiling beams can also become the main decoration of the attic interior. Depending on the roof structure, these beams can be load-bearing, and not hollow false beams, which are used in the premises of the first floor.

So:

  • Rafters can also play this role - it is enough to carefully decorate them. The examples of finishing the attic floor, with the use of ceiling beams, given by us, clearly show how beautiful and original it is.

Wherein decorative finishing walls can be the simplest - all attention is attracted to the beam structures, which necessarily have a contrasting color in relation to other surfaces. The original ceiling lamps, in harmony with the beams, also play an important role in this interior.

Plasterboard structures

As we have already said, there is nothing in the attic space that could interfere with the implementation of any structure: partitions, columns, arches, suspended ceilings. The main thing is to be spacious. You can divide a room into zones using any of these elements.

So:

  • The final finish of attics lined with plasterboard can be a surface painted with acrylic paint, pasted over with wallpaper. Often the attic has a good height - this is what most apartments in multi-storey buildings lack so much.
  • Sometimes it even needs to be hidden, so suspended plasterboard ceilings can have several levels and recede from the base surface not by 10-12 cm, but much more.

  • In design projects, in the attic room there are even stretch ceiling... In the top photo, plasterboard walls and a milky stretch glossy ceiling create a wonderful interior for the living room. This is facilitated by good natural light in the attic.
  • Not all attics have a sufficient number of windows. If windows are not provided in the slopes of the roof, but there are only small windows on the gable walls, in terms of lighting, you have to rely more on lighting devices.

That is why the attic finish is fine, done mainly in light colors. Only some interior elements can be dark. The example above shows a very popular technique for wall decoration as an extension of the ceiling. It looks like this: along the head of the bed, which stands with its butt to the wall, a strip of wallpaper with a thick pattern is glued. The pattern usually contrasts with the light surface and visually stretches the room in height.

Other finishes

Designers constantly come up with ideas that may seem out of the ordinary. But that is what distinguishes the design finish. And often, for the interior arrangement of attics, they use those materials that are intended for exterior decoration facades.

So:

  • This includes materials such as vinyl and aluminum siding, different kinds composite panels, plastic HPL panels. Some manufacturers even offer complete options designed specifically for attic finishing.
  • Such kits are made for a specific object, according to preliminary measurements - this is called an individual design. In this case, the final finishing of the attic is an assembly of a certain structure, which is done quickly and without unnecessary dirt.

  • Attic walls clad with HPL panels look especially good. These anti-vandal facade panels made of high pressure plastic have extraordinary strength, dielectric and thermal insulation properties, and practically do not absorb moisture.

  • The production of this material is carried out simultaneously with the pressing of the upper decorative layer. As a result of this technology, compact, non-porous, hygienic panels with a strict geometric shape are obtained.

There are options with two-sided finishes, and different ones. So the surface design can be created by simply turning the panel one side or the other. We told you about the most interesting options for finishing the attic space, but the choice, of course, is only yours.
